Time for a Monday edition of Glenn Clark Radio, lots to cover on the program after a busy, busy sports weekend. We'll recap the Orioles series split with the Blue Jays, looking back at an eventful series after the O's dropped the first two games in rather heartbreaking fashion before securing an improbable split beginning with a dramatic finish Saturday night. We will chat about all of that, talk some lacrosse after the PLL was in town, and touch on the passing of Baltimore icon Raymond Berry as well. We'll hear from a Baltimore native as well later in the program at 11:40am when we catch up with a member of the USMNT in defender Alex Freeman who was born in Baltimore, we'll see how he's doing before representing Team USA in the World Cup later this month. Then at 12:20pm, we are going to chat with author Mark Bowden who wrote 'The Best Game Ever' as we take some time to remember the life and legacy of Baltimore Icon Raymond Berry who passed away last week. Plus, Glenn and Griffin will recap the week that was in Orioles baseball with ‘Three Up and Three Down.' All that and more on a Monday edition of GCR!

Think all psychopaths look like cold-blooded villains? Think again. In Part 2, we dive into the chilling case of Gen Z singer D4vid, examine how manipulative people slip under the radar, and (most importantly) arm you with strategies to spot and outmaneuver manipulators in love and life. World-renowned human behavior and body language expert Mark Bowden returns to show us the power tactics used by narcissists and psychopaths, how "quick set intimacy" works, and what questions to ask yourself to stay safe on dates and in relationships. We'll break down why manipulators seem to read your deepest desires, how “love bombing” and gaslighting can hijack your confidence, and why you have to pay attention not just to what people do, but to what they DON'T do. Mark even roleplays the exact tactics predators use, so you can see through the smoke and mirrors for yourself. If you want to make your boundaries ironclad and never be played again, this episode is your armor. Statistically, one in twenty people has psychopathic traits, and if you've been in the dating game for long, chances are you've run into one and didn't even know. This episode is here to give you tools that could literally save your heart, your sanity, and possibly your life. I'm joined by the world's #1 Communication Keynote Speaker and expert in Body Language and Human Behavior, Mark Bowden, who's here to teach us how to spot psychopaths, decode lies, and protect yourself from manipulators before it's too late. We break down the infamous Chris Watts case, dissecting the chilling body language and story inconsistencies that revealed the shocking truth. Mark gives us the ultimate five-point checklist for detecting deception, shares why some people don't show empathy, and teaches you how to read the red flags even when someone's acting like the perfect partner. This is a masterclass in self-defense of your mind, your emotions, and your intuition. SHOWNOTES Statistical reality: 1 in 20 have psychopathic traits. Chris Watts introduced as case study. Five things to watch for when detecting lies: changing stories, pronoun shifts, tense changes, oaths/euphemisms, and repeating questions.  Real-time analysis of Chris Watts' story: blame shifting, lack of distress, and loss of energy. Over-protesting innocence: when it signals guilt, plus the importance of conversational stakes. The psychology behind power, narcissism, and why some choose destruction over divorce. Unmasking the inner world: how psychopathic people process “unfairness” and why they act out.  How to assess guilt: what to do when your gut says “something's off.” Understanding charm as a ruse: the D4vid case and why “safe” can be smoke and mirrors. Body Language - How to Control the Room Without Saying a Word | Mark Bowden Most business owners dread meetings. They run too long, people zone out, and nothing gets done. Mark Bowden knows the problem isn't the meeting itself - it's that nobody is actually listening. In this episode of the ActionCOACH podcast, host James Vincent sits down with Mark to reveal the precise techniques that transform chaotic gatherings into focused, productive sessions where everyone leaves knowing exactly what to do next.Mark Bowden is a body language and communication expert who has spent decades teaching leaders how to command attention without dominating the room. His approach isn't about reading minds or manipulating people. It's about creating the conditions where genuine listening happens, confusion evaporates, and action becomes inevitable. His secret? Take your own pulse before you try to read the room. What You'll Learn:The Anatomy of a Terrible Meeting: Discover why meetings fail when people leave confused, inactive, and unwilling to meet again due to poor listening.Reverse Engineering Great Meetings: Learn the three hallmarks of meetings that work: people feel understood, they know exactly what happens next, and they're genuinely motivated for the next step.Opening With Genuine Welcome: Understand why the first 30 seconds determine everything, including a detailed roleplay of opening a cashflow meeting.Cognitive Versus Emotional Empathy: Explore the critical difference between understanding what someone is thinking versus what they're feeling, and why cognitive empathy often supports clearer business thinking.Outcome Over Agenda: Stop boring people with tedious agenda lists and clarify the desired outcome in plain language instead.Reading the Room Starts With You: Master the technique of taking your own pulse before attempting to interpret a chaotic room and leading body language rather than reactively reading it.Using Check-Ins to Surface Value: Learn how frequent, strategic check-ins maintain focus and reveal what participants actually value without turning them into interrogations.Inviting People to Name Their Blockers: Discover the power of asking directly what might prevent someone from contributing fully and surface fears that would otherwise sabotage the meeting.Allowing Conflict Without Suppression: Understand why conflict is useful and should be welcomed, with specific techniques for managing dominant speakers using clear, named interruptions.Closing With Clear Actions: Master the structured wrap-up that extracts key takeaways, identifies next actions, and determines what support people need.Key Quotes:"A terrible meeting is one where people leave confused, inactive, and unwilling to meet again.""Take your own pulse before you try to read the room.""Lead body language rather than read it. You set the tone.""Conflict is useful. Don't suppress it. Manage it instead."Mark Bowden's Background:Mark Bowden is a globally recognised expert in body language, communication, and human behaviour. He has trained leaders across industries on how to command presence, build trust, and facilitate productive conversations without relying on dominance or manipulation.Action Steps:If You Haven't Started: Before your next meeting, write down the single outcome you want. Then craft a 30-second opening that welcomes people genuinely and states that outcome in plain language. If You're Already Running Meetings: Implement the pulse check technique. Before you walk into the room, take 10 seconds to notice your own breathing and physical state, then lead the energy you want to see.For Everyone: Add three check-in moments to your next meeting. Ask "What's valuable here?" or "What might block your contribution?" When someone dominates, use their name and a clear interruption: "John, I'm going to pause you there so we can hear from others." By Robert Riggs Armed Forces Radio Spc John Bagwell Evades Capture During The 1968 Tet Offensive in Vietnam – Recreation As I watched the daring rescue of the two airmen shot down over Iran in early April of 2026, I found myself thinking of John Bagwell. John's story is not a true-crime saga you’d expect to hear on this podcast, but it is gripping, timely, and no less dramatic. I learned about his military service when he wore a Purple Heart ribbon to a search engine marketing group meeting here in Dallas many years ago. John had never talked about his time in the Vietnam War, and we were surprised. We learned that in 1968, Bagwell escaped from behind enemy lines during a surprise attack dubbed the Tet Offensive.  He was wounded and alone, moving through deadly, unfamiliar territory while trying to avoid enemy fire and, at times, bullets from his own side. His harrowing fight for survival began at a radio station in Vietnam with a scene that could have been lifted straight from a Hollywood movie. Body Language - Make These Instant Changes to Master Every Interview & Close Every Deal | Mark Bowden Body Language Expert InterviewMost people walk into high-stakes meetings hoping their content will carry them. Mark Bowden knows better: audiences form unconscious judgments about you in seconds via body language, and you can control exactly what they feel. What You'll Learn:The Theory of Mind Framework: Audiences unconsciously form a "theory of mind" about you, their prediction of how you're thinking and feeling toward them, based 55% on body language, 38% on tone, and only 7% on words. The Four Gesture Planes: Hand positions trigger specific emotions. Truth plane (naval height, open palms) signals honesty; passion plane (chest height) creates energy; thought plane (higher) builds vision; grotesque plane (below belt) triggers negative judgment. The MBT Framework: "Make a choice, Make it Bigger, Keep it Tidy." Commit fully to one gesture plane, amplify it, and hold it long enough for audiences to process, transforming scattered movement into confident communication. The Influence and Persuasion Model: Influence means understanding their perspective; persuasion means presenting choices to guide decisions. This changes minds more effectively than assertiveness (telling) because people feel ownership of the outcome."No matter how good your business is, no matter how good your pitch is, I'm in charge not only of how I feel, but I can be in charge of what you feel."Mark Bowden's Background:Mark Bowden is a globally recognised body language and human behaviour expert who advises leaders and executives worldwide. If You Haven't Started: Sit a hand-span away from the table with resources an arm's length away to encourage open gestures. If You're Already Presenting: Choreograph key moments using the truth plane (naval height) for credibility, the passion plane (chest height) for goals, and the grotesque plane for obstacles. Apply MBT: make one gesture choice per idea, amplify it, and hold it.For Everyone: Master the influence model: ask questions to understand their perspective, acknowledge it, then present choices and let them decide. This episode is sponsored by SEDULO: One of the UK's fastest growing mid-tier business advisory firms, for good reasonFind out more at: https://sedulo.co.uk/ Hosted on Acast. Andrew Brodsky: Ping Andrew Brodsky is an award-winning professor, management consultant, and virtual communications expert at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He is an expert in workplace technology, communication, and productivity, and serves as the CEO of Ping Group. He is the author of Ping: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication*. We've all heard the well intended advice that having interactions in person is always best. And that being as close to perfect as possible is ideal. Turns out, not always. In this conversation, Andrew and I explore how adapting to the context of tough situations can help you show up in a way that's helpful for the other party and for you. Key Points In virtual interactions, what feels authentic to you may not seem authentic to the person you're interacting with. While video is best for being present, it may not be best when your underlying emotions could leak into a situation. Surface acting helps us all land with the other party more authentically. Audio only can help this land better. If using a less rich medium to communicate (i.e. email instead of a conversation) it's helpful to explain why you made that choice. People who appear perfectly competent may not be as likable. Consider surfacing blunders that aren't central to the core expertise of your work. We often default to the medium that works best for us. Consider what will land best with the other party. On October 3, 1993, about a hundred elite U.S. soldiers were dropped by helicopter into the teeming market in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia. Their mission was to abduct two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord and return to base. It was supposed to take an hour. Instead, they found themselves pinned down through a long and terrible night fighting against thousands of heavily-armed Somalis. The following morning, eighteen Americans were dead and more than seventy had been badly wounded.Drawing on interviews from both sides, army records, audiotapes, and videos (some of the material is still classified), Bowden's minute-by-minute narrative is one of the most exciting accounts of modern combat ever written—a riveting story that captures the heroism, courage, and brutality of battle.

Black Hawk Down (2001) describes the plight of the U.S. crew of a Black Hawk helicopter that is shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu during the civil war in Somalia in October 1993. The battle resulted in the death of 18 American soldiers and hundreds of Somalis; it also prompted the U.S. withdrawal from Somalia after images of dead U.S. soldiers being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu by enraged Somalis were broadcast on American television. Directed by Ridley Scott from a book by Mark Bowden, Black Hawk Down is a gritty action movie that captures the brutal nature of urban warfare. It also provides a window into a host of complex international legal and political issues surrounding humanitarian intervention in the aftermath of the Cold War. Joining me is Greg Fox, Professor and Director of the Program for International Legal Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit. Now that so much of our communications are digital, such as texts, emails, and chats, we miss out on the tone and facial expressions to help us understand the intent and content in communication. It's important to know ourselves well enough to know what areas we'll be more easily influenced and are susceptible to being deceived. The greater our desire for something to be true, the easier it is for us to be scammed. Today's guest is Mark Bowden. Mark is a world-renowned body language expert, keynote speaker, and best-selling author. He is the founder of the communication training company, TruthPlane. Mark is also a member of The Behavior Panel on YouTube. Show Notes: [1:08] - Mark shares his background and what motivated him to specialize in human behavior. [2:34] - There are parts of the brain that are activated when we first meet someone new. [3:56] - Think about how many people you see on a regular day. Some you will notice and some you will not. [7:03] - There are certain parts of the brain that can overwrite natural instinct. [10:02] - Mark demonstrates how body language changes when there is perceived risk. [14:50] - Body language signals can be perceived inaccurately. People can also change their body language to send different signals. [17:15] - So many signals that our brains rely on in communication disappear when we cannot see the person we're talking to. [19:16] - Mark gives an example of how the human brain perceives the bait of a scam. [22:48] - The first step in critical thinking is to suspend judgment. [25:58] - “You can only con a greedy man.” Think about what you want so much that if it were offered, you lose your sense of judgment. [28:33] - If anyone ever tells you that something seems like it isn't true, suspend judgment and look into it. [30:32] - It's a risky world. There are people who have dedicated their lives to deceiving others. [35:13] - Part of critical thinking is asking other people whom you trust about what they think. [39:56] - Sometimes we will set people up to see how they will respond. [43:11] - It is best to have an open mind and be willing to see things for what they are over what you want them to be. In a revealing episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," guest Mark Bowden, a renowned English author and body language expert, delves into the complex world of non-verbal cues in the context of the infamous Alex Murdaugh case. Bowden shares his expertise on interpreting the silent signals that can betray one's true intentions, providing a fascinating lens through which to view Murdaugh's behavior during his trial and the conflicting narratives surrounding the murders. Bowden's approach focuses on clusters of non-verbal cues rather than isolated actions, looking for consistent patterns of deception.
