I was asked to watch the Memorial Day celebration in Washington, DC on saturday night. It was very moving and the stories of sacrifice and loss of loved ones for the sake of our Nation was sobering at the very least. I proceeded today on Memorial Day to watch another Memorial Day celebration of sacrifice at Arlington National Cemetery where the President and Vice President of the United States gave very moving speeches and recognized many families who had lost loved ones. In student ministry, these soldiers are mostly still in our wheelhouse of ministry between the ages of 18 to 25 years of age, which is still adolescence. I felt God's move in me saying, "Get in touch with those you know whose life were almost lost serving our nation" and I was able to reach one of them. Clark Blake was a Recon Marine that served in Vietnam. This means he was the toughest of the tough! I asked Clark to tell his story and he graciously did thouroughly in this interview. Clark and his family are true national and heavenly treasures! _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Jennifer Finkelstein is not here for your pity, your pinkwashed slogans, or your performative awareness campaigns. She's a 20-year young adult breast cancer survivor who turned trauma into a blueprint for action and built 5 Under 40, a no-BS nonprofit supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer under 40.In this episode, we go full Gen X therapy session—from SNL nostalgia and cold caps to the absurdity of finding out you have cancer while looking for the remote. Jen drops real talk about founding a nonprofit when nothing existed for her age group, why mental health support isn't optional, and how passing down designer scarves can mean arming someone for battle. If you're looking for honesty, grit, and a few inappropriate jokes about gastroenterology, this one's for you. You'll laugh, you might cry, and you'll definitely leave knowing why Jennifer Finkelstein is a survivor, a fighter, and a damn legend.RELATED LINKS5 Under 40 FoundationJennifer Finkelstein on LinkedInAbout 5 Under 40: Board of DirectorsDan's Papers: 5 Under 40 Supports Young Breast Cancer SurvivorsFEEDBACKLike this episode? Heston Russell has lived a life most of us couldn’t imagine. A former special forces commander, he’s been shot at, dropped out of helicopters, and led troops through the chaos of Afghanistan and Iraq. But it wasn’t until he came home that he faced his toughest fight yet — not against an enemy overseas, but against his own country. Heston and his men were accused of war crimes, and suddenly, he was battling to defend their names against the weight of national headlines and public judgment. In this episode, we dive into Heston’s intense defamation case against the ABC, but we go deeper, too, into what it’s like to be a soldier at war and what you do when you’re wrongly accused of a crime you didn’t commit. You can listen to The ABC’s of Heston Russell podcast here. Patrick Boyter is a LEGEND! He's lived multiple lives over the last decade. He's an Army veteran who was deployed in Iraq and shares incredible stories with us, including the miracle of getting stationed at the same base as his twin brother. From there, he became a highly ranked private bodyguard for the Bass family in Fort Worth, making 6 figures and crushing it.Once this door closed after standing up for what he believed, Pat was introduced to a true leader in the faith, Todd White. This is where Patrick opens up about the underbelly of the church world, some good and some bad. He also recounts seeing a miracle of a man being paralyzed to walking a few months later. Patrick unpacks his years as a Bounty Hunter and how brutal of a world that was for him as a believer. Throughout all of his different careers, the big takeaway is that his identity is in Christ alone, not a position. We laugh, we get real, and this was my favorite interview of 2025 -- it's the reason we went for two hours! Please support this show by sharing! More eyes = more lives | More ears = more hearts.

A trauma surgeon stationed at one of Gaza's largest hospitals says the carnage this week is beyond anything he has seen in Ukraine or anywhere.More than 500 have been killed by Israeli airstrikes since Tuesday, when Israel's government broke a two-month ceasefire with Hamas and has escalated attacks since.Hospitals continue to be overwhelmed with more than 900 injuries and facing ongoing shortages since food and fuel were cut off by Israel's government in early March.UNICEF says Tuesday was the single deadliest day for children in Gaza since the war began. On this episode of The Big Picture Podcast, we speak with Dr Feroze Sadhwa, a volunteer trauma surgeon at Nasser Hospital, and an eyewitness to what he describes as ‘carnage' in Gaza. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode, and any guests you'd like us to have on our show. Eventually the British soldiers were ordered to leave the city after a cease fire was agreed with the enemy - a decision that many of the soldiers disagree with to this day. At SuperMac, I thought I was good VP of marketing; aggressive, relentless and would take no prisoners – even with my peers inside the company. But a series of Zen-like moments helped me move to a different level that changed how I operated. It didn't make my marketing skills any worse or better, but moved me to play forever on a different field.
Send us a textIn this special crossover episode, I interview Alice König about her recent research on ancient habits of visualising war and peace on her podcast, the Visualising War and Peace Podcast. Alice has recently co-edited a new book with Nicolas Wiater, on ancient conflict narratives, called Visualising War across the Ancient Mediterranean: Interplay between Conflict Narratives in Different Genres and Media (Routledge 2025). In this podcast episode, Alice introduces the book and discusses some of the themes at the heart of it.This episode explores the conception of visualisation: the ways in which narratives of war not only reflect or depict conflict but also envision it, in ways that shape how conflict gets pursued or prevented in the real world. She also discusses the role that interplay between narratives and discourses can play in cementing and amplifying influential war imaginaries. And she considers the impacts which all of this war-storytelling has on ordinary lives in the everyday. We hope you enjoy this collab episode. If you would like to get in touch with Alice regarding her work, please visit the University of St Andrews' Visualising War website and the Visualising Peace Project. The music for the episode was composed by Jonathan Young, and Zofia Guertin mixed the episode. Years of Service: 1987-2002In the world of law enforcement, there are many careers other than police officers, sheriff deputies, and Special Agents that play a crucial role during investigations leading to the arrest and prosecution of criminals. One of those careers is as an intelligence analyst, where information is gathered and put together in conjunction with on-ground street enforcement. These analysts are on the front lines and often participate in interviews of suspects as well as gathering evidence during search warrants.Chris' father was the first DEA Special Agent to be stationed in Mexico and Chris decided he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. Because of a medical issue, Chris was unable to pursue his goal of becoming a DEA Special Agent and instead became an Intelligence Analyst. During this interview, Chris talks about his career and some of the unconventional things he did as an Intelligence Analyst. Chris was stationed in some domestic offices but also was stationed in Buenos Aires, La Paz Bolivia, and was temporarily stationed in Latin America and was present for search warrants at Manuel Noriega's residence.Chris currently runs his own company called MIC Worldwide, focusing on counterfeit investigations and is the author of “Counterfeits, War Stories and Lessons Learned”. Chris is a business coach and his first non-fiction novel was just published called “The Hunter” based on real people in his life.

Mitochondrial dysfunction as we age has been linked to muscle dysfunction, metabolism, overall energy levels, and resiliency. But what makes our mitochondria fail as we get older? It turns out to be related to a disruption in a process called mitophagy, the natural repair and recycling process that normally rebuilds and recreates healthy mitochondria to replace damaged ones. When mitophagy fails, mitochondria lose efficiency and cannot do their jobs, and we have a power failure. The compound that's key to keeping mitophagy happening normally is called Urolithin-A, and that compound is lacking in most of us because of a change over time in our gut microbiota. Timeline is renewing this process and making our mitochondria better with their product Mitopure. It will help you repair your cells, increase your strength, and become healthier.
