Baptism of the Lord Sunday ~ January 12, 2025 Rev. Kendra Balliet Organist Jim Ross * Please Stand If Able Prelude - Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship When we pass through the cleansing waters of baptism and the troubled waters of our lives, God declares: I will be with you. When we go through the fires that refine us and the fires that threaten our livelihoods, God declares: I will be with you. So come, let us worship God whose love never fails, whose presence never leaves, whose mercies never end. Praise be to God who, in the form of Jesus, waded into the waters of baptism to prove God’s solidarity with us! Amen. * Opening Hymn – “We Would See Jesus” # 256 Opening Prayer “I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Building God's Kingdom, God's Way!
God's servant Isaiah relays words of comfort to God's people who remain faithful. When miseries overwhelm us, God reminds the faithful of who they belong to and of who God is. While we often neglect the covenant we have in Christ, God the Father never waivers from his commitment to HIS people. "Fear not, I have redeemed you, you are mine." "Fear not, for I am with you."

As we recall the baptism of the Lord we think of our own baptisms and how this sacrament impacts our lives.

Christmas Every Day Isaiah 43: 1-7 Rev Keith Morrison
As kids, we heard that from our parents often. “It’s time to come home!” Whether for dinner, to do homework, or for some variety of reason, we got called home. And often as kids, it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. Especially when we were playing in the sun with our friends. But, what happened when we got home? In this sermon, which celebrates the Neighborhood Church’s Homecoming Rally Sunday, Rev. Dr. David D. Young explores the concept of spiritual homesickness and how we, as God’s children, are called to a home full of warmth, acceptance, love and nurturing. This is the first sermon in the Fall “The Quest and the Call” Sermon Series. Accompanying scripture passages are Isaiah 43: 1-7 and Luke 15: 11-32.

Our identity is important to us! But sometimes we confused as to where our identity comes from with the temptation to find that identity in the creation instead of the creator. Fortunately for us our Creator does not abandon or forsake us despite our sinfulness and pursuit after things that can never really satisfy and only cause us to fear. We can find that hope and assurance that He is for us in the incredible gift of our baptism!
This week Pastor Christ explores how Jesus' Baptism is connected to our baptism.
Precious in my Sight Isaiah 43:1-7 Keith Morrison
Roger Bray concludes the series 'Known by God' exploring how the gospel hands us a new identity and name.
Part of spiritual growth is letting go of things that are detrimental to our spiritual health and future. It's not enough to try and cover these things up. The old ways have to go. Listen in, and share!
Isaiah 43:1-7 We were created to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Where do I fit in? It’s easy to fill our lives with things and activities. Busyness can drown out the quiet, nagging question that asks: What’s the purpose of all I’m doing? What have I really accomplished? God created us for so much more than what we often settle for. He created us with purpose and for a purpose. Life becomes rich and full as we discover and live out God’s purpose for our lives.

How can we fear not when there is so much to be afraid of? Fear over school, work, health, loved ones, politics, violence, uncertain futures, money, conflict with friends? With so much to be afraid of in this world over and over again one of the most often spoken commands in the Bible whether it be by Angels, Prophets, Apostles, or of the Triune God himself is “Fear Not.” How can we fear not when there is so much to be afraid of?
Using the lyrics from Les Miserables, Pastor John highlights how important a name is to an individual and how God recognized his son.

What is the meaning of your life? Wealth, fame, power, the partner and the house of your dreams? Solomon had all this. But he came to a conclusion that might surprise you.

How is it that Jesus can be fully God and fully human? Isn’t impossible to be 200%? We often think of those two things as being contradictory, separated by a wide gulf because of our sin. But God created human beings in God’s own image, and nothing can change that. The Word that was present with God from the beginning is able to be made flesh because our flesh was already made in that image. In the incarnation of Jesus Christ, God shows us just how close we are to one another and demonstrates the full potential that God created in each of us. How do you see Jesus? What does your understanding of him say about who God created you to be?
Our purpose is to bring God glory
