Jesus Christ our Reigning King Pt.2 (2022-7-10)
The world doesn't need more convincing intellectually speaking, it needs Hope! Nothing brings Hope like our own personal stories of God's redemption in our lives. Don't try to hide those broken places, they are the very things the world needs to see!
The Spirit descended upon the prophet Isaiah and empowered him to bring good news to the captives, proclaim liberty and announce God’s everlasting covenant. Join us on Christmas Eve as we look at Isaiah 61:1-3, a reminder that God does not abandon us in the messiness of life.

The words of the prophet emerge, saying this: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me.” For God’s blessings to be seen in this world, the world needs those who are willing to claim it for themselves. Rev. Patrick Hunnicutt preaches on the Third Sunday of Advent. The Scripture lesson is Isaiah 61:1–3, 10.

There seems to be so many that have broken hearts today. Many have had their hearts broken due to unexpected death or sickness of loved ones. Others due to divorce. While for others, it has been a disappointment of a parent, co-worker, a friend, or a minister. And this is one of the things, a broken heart, that Jesus came to heal.
We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

Have you ever felt, or known someone who felt alone? Isolated? In need of healing? Tormented by a force outside of your control? If so, this story of the Gerasene man is for you. The good news is that Jesus has power to heal and to save, and the power to control that which is out of our control.
As we consider "Why we do what we do" in church life, today we turn our attention to Scripture and preaching. What do we mean when we describe a text as "Scripture" and what is the preacher attempting to do when a sermon is being delivered? Both questions relate to the nature of "the Word of God" and how a text can be a vehicle for revealing the "Good News" or "Gospel", which is, as Jesus describes it, "of the Kingdom of God."

The restoration, cause, and source of joy.
More than 700 years before the shepherds came, the angels sang and the wise men worshiped, the prophet Isaiah declared who Jesus is and why He was coming into the world. The declaration of His name is the true meeting of Christmas.

Lasting joy does not come from favorable circumstances but from the favor of God, in spite of what may come against us. Such joy is found in His presence and is a fruit of His Spirit.
