Episode 48: Healing from abortion; the truth of what abortion does and how the Lord forgives with Nancy Beeman

As you may know this past Sunday, January 22nd was Sanctity of Human Life Day. Today's guest Nancy Beeman is someone who has done a lot of work and advocacy for ending abortion in the United States and we are blessed to have her be a part of Desert Springs. Nancy was raised primarily in Southern California but in college fell in love with Kentucky and Tennessee when she was serving in a community mission helping children living in group homes. During that time, she met a man who would later become her husband. Unfortunately, after a few years and having some children together the discovery of an affair on her husband's part brought about a divorce. Heartbroken after the split Nancy was adjusting to being a single mom and trying her best to get through the day to day. A male coworker began expressing interest in her and because of the emotional state she was in she gave into his advances and began what Nancy describes as a sexual relationship. This was big for Nancy as she had been very committed to her Christian faith and hadn't exhibited behaviors like this before. After a few months of seeing this man Nancy discovered that she was pregnant. The coworker immediately requested she get an abortion which was not something she ever wanted to do. But feeling completely stuck, confused, hopeless and alone, already raising children on her own, Nancy went through with the abortion. The procedure was done at a clinic that scammed her into paying more money and she spent the weekend alone in a cheap hotel room recovering. For years Nancy lived with intense guilt and shame over the act she had committed and engaged in destructive post-abortive behaviors in the months following which again was extremely out of character for her. There finally came a point where Nancy knew she needed to accept love and forgiveness from the Lord and move onto a new chapter in her life. You'll hear about how Nancy began to heal, how she started to share her story and how she strongly believes there is grace and forgiveness from God no matter the sin you've committed. There are so many lies surrounding what abortion is and what it does to women, and we are so thankful to Nancy for her vulnerability in sharing the truth with us today. For more information on Surrendering The Secret, a support group for women who have had abortions, click here: https://dscchurch.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1117386Pregnancy centers in the Phoenix area:New Life Pregnancy Center - https://newlifepregnancy.comChoices Pregnancy Center - https://www.choicesaz.comIf you are pregnant and needing help, please know that you are not alone. Listen  as we dive in to the experience of Chateau Challain! Our guest, Cynthia Nicholson's story is one of family and determination to restore history. The creation and development of Chateau Challain, one of the grandest private homes in the 19th century, was not an easy task, but with hard work and a talented international team of craftsman,Cynthia and her family succeeded in revitalizing this French estate home.  Together they created a breathtaking destination to host special events - like romantic weddings – while bringing back all the beauty from its midieval past. There's no doubt that their journey has been one of passion where art, architecture meets culture for visitors and locals alike! Main Topics: *The difference in destination venues and venues that are “close to home”*The journey of revitalizing and giving new life to historic properties *Intentionally prioritize business and personal life so you can give quality to both Key Takeaways: *Each wedding is a new business and you don't know what kind of rocky roads you're going to go down*Self learning is many times the avenue to success*When you drive the client experience and anticipate their needs your guests have a lifelong memorable experience More About Our Guest: The earliest recorded chateau on our site dates all the way back to the medieval age in 1050, in a time of knights and chivalry. The original castle was probably part of the ‘Les Marches de Bretagne' a series of fortresses that acted as a defensive line that protected the people of the ancient region of France known as Brittany. That chateau, and many others that followed it were destroyed in the wars, and conflicts that wracked the area in the centuries that followed. But our story truly starts with Louise-Ida de La Potherie, an exceptional woman that lived through some of France's most turbulent times. She was the last of her line, from a noble family steeped in history. Her was father a famous colonel that fought in the Spanish wars, and against the forces of revolution, her only brother was killed in a duel. Alone, in this difficult period she finally found the love of her life, Le comte de La Rochefoucauld-Bayers. They married, and sought to make a refuge for themselves in the seat of her ancestral home. Together they set about to build a sanctuary, a testament of their love, and it is this monument that we know as the ‘Chateau Challain'. Work began in 1847, they commissioned Parisian architect Louis Visconti, famed for designing the Louvre extension, to replace the original 16th century castle. The owners chose Rene Hode, a well-known Angevin architect to oversee the building project. The chateau was designed to commemorate the passing of time. Its 4 towers represent the seasons, 12 turrets represent the lunar months, 26 spiral staircases represent the fortnights per year, 52 fireplaces represent the weeks of the year, and 365 windows represent each passing day. It covers an area of 7,600 square meters (nearly 82,000 square feet). Over 700 artisans worked on the construction, and although worked progressed quickly it was far from straightforward, with the work being delayed by yet another revolution in 1848. With the work close to completion tragedy struck once more. In the early winter of 1854, and in the shadow of the nearly completed chateau Le Comte died. Heartbroken, and with two children, Louise, now Countess La Rochefoucauld-Bayers, was determined to see the project through to the end, and personally oversaw the final stages of construction. Ultimately, the chateau became one of the grandest private French homes of the 19th century. It boasts a wealth of architectural detail, including intricate woodcarvings, Gothic panelling and sculptures, large working fireplaces, and hand painted ceilings. It is situated on a beautifully manicured estate, which occupies one corner of a quaint village. Because of the property's ambiance and the design of the castle itself, Chateau Challain is often referred to as the "Neo-Gothic Jewel of Anjou" or "Le Petite Chambord.” In 2002, the Nicholson family purchased Chateau Challain and began the painstaking process of restoring the castle to its original splendour.

BEFORE he would make his case for being the Garden State's hottest new artist, rapper BandmanRill was born on August 17th, 2002 to a family of more than eleven children! Raised in Newark, New Jersey, Bandman didn't grow up around every single one of his siblings. Most of the time it was him, his mother, his father, his grandfather, grandmother, sister, aunt, uncle, and cousin living under one roof. But over the years, the people living alongside him would fluctuate. Some would leave -- including his dad -- while others would arrive, but for the most part, Bandman always had two or three brothers somewhere around the house and he'd catch up with the others whenever he could. In regards to growing up in Newark, Bandman never knew what he was going to experience on any given day and this led to him growing up pretty fast. You could certainly say that he was a product of his environment, but Bandman always did what he could to turn that to his advantage. For instance, while attending Maple Avenue Elementary School from kindergarten through Grade 5, he heard the beat that would eventually become the sample of his breakthrough track “Heartbroken” for the first time.

So many of us turn to food when we've experienced loss. While it's normal and natural to regulate our emotions with food, we know it's ultimately not the healthiest response.  As this session highlights, part of the solution to what we might call “grief eating” is having empathy and compassion for ourselves. Lori courageously shares her deeply personal journey of heartache and healing in hopes of encouraging others who are suffering with grief, bitterness or unforgiveness. On September 20, 2011 Lori lost her son Nathan to a drug overdose. Devastated, something in Lori led her to immediately pray to God specifically. Heartbroken that God did not heal her son from his addiction, she still chose to trust Him. She asked God to help her get through it, to keep her from bitterness, and to stop this event from breaking her family.   In this episode Lori shares: -About her son Nathan and his big heart for people and his dream of becoming an EMT -Her family discovering there was an issue with heroin and God opening doors for treatment and support through a new faith filled friend -The tragic day of losing her son and the prayers at that moment that would help her to find healing over time -Facing the drug dealer, the court battle and the unexpected heartfelt apology that facilitated her closure -Forgiving the drug dealer and the miraculous letter he sent back to them about acceptance of Jesus -A powerful experience God allowed her to have with Nathan (and his message) that gave her peace and confirmation that he is in heaven -Practical tips for finding healings to add to prayer include finding the right support group, therapist, friends -Journaling was therapeutic way to help process her pain -People grieve differently and that must be understood and respected in the family -It is important to grieve, and give grace as it is a process that takes time -You can find joy again in spite of the hard moments   Lori, I am honored that you would trust me to share your testimony.  Your willingness to step out in faith to share such a personal event in your life in the hopes of helping even just one person is beautiful. I pray for continued healing for your family and for blessings!   Proverbs 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."   Psalm 147:3 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."   "I love my life. I can still have tough days, but I definitely try to look for the small miracles in every day. I honestly believe one hundred percent had I gotten bitter and angry, I never would've had God's best for me. I wanted to be an example for my daughters. I wanted them to know that we could go through this as a family, but we could live with the grief. If we allow God to be in our life, He can fill us with that peace that we need to carry on each day."   How to contact Lori:  ljfoley21@hotmail.com   Drug abuse SAMHSA National Helpline 1-800-662-4357 Confidential free help

For the High Holidays, we're revisiting some of our favorite episodes of "A Bintel Brief."Starting in 1906, the editors of the Forward answered reader questions in a column called “A Bintel Brief,” Yiddish for “a bundle of letters.” Now, we're bringing Bintel into a new era. Welcome to Season 2 of “A Bintel Brief,” the Jewish advice podcast. In this episode, Ginna and Lynn read and react to listener responses to one of our most popular episodes from last season, “Heartbroken Bubbe.” Recurring guest Chana Pollack drops by with some wisdom from the archive, and “Heartbroken Bubbe” herself comments on her experience trying to help foment a sense of Jewish identity in a beloved grandchild of mixed-faith parents.

Ivy Slater always wanted to be a dancer. She earned a degree in dance and went on to become a professional dancer, something many young ballerinas don't achieve. Holly Copeland MA is a former conservation scientist turned human potential coach, neuro-meditation teacher, sound healer and Reiki master. She is a practitioner and teacher of non-dual awareness and subtle energy meditation techniques. She uses neurotechnology, Reiki and tuning forks in transformative quantum healing experiences. In her coaching work, Holly's passion for maps, the environment and technology, as well as spirituality initially led to her 25 plus year career as a conservation scientist mapping their Earth's ecosystems. Heartbroken by the state of the planet, coupled with a personal health crisis, she set out on a new path of healing and transformation. She shifted her focus from exterior to interior and rewired her brain to a state of resilience and joy. As a scientist and biohacker who unites ancient wisdom and modern science. Holly now harnesses, modern technology and neuroscience to empower others on their path to human flourishing and upgrading from ordinary mind to luminous awareness. She guides people out of the muddy waters of thinking mind into a flow, joyfully and effortlessly from your own inner compass and stable ground of being. In this interview with Holly Copeland, you'll discover: -Transitioning from environmental activist into the neuroscience and master reiki fields...02:45 -"I'm not trying, I'm allowing the Universe to guide my steps"...10:07 -What are you resisting?...14:32 -"I'm a blend of what has optimized my own health" (as a practitioner)...18:30 -Optimized breath work techniques to allow the "super human" to come out...23:05 -The spark of divinity in our heart nurtures the vine of life-force within...27:12 -You get to choose the news you receive...32:45 -And much more... Resources mentioned: -https://amzn.to/3CXMQxJ (Muse Headset) -HeartMind Alchemy About the guest (in her own words): Two years ago, my life felt like it was falling apart. A job that I'd been in for 17 years was not working for me anymore and I started having symptoms of severe mold poisoning, sending my health into a downward spiral. In 2018, I changed jobs and detoxed from the mold, but somehow by making that change, I unearthed a new realization that I hadn't been living wholeheartedly and joyfully for awhile--I really couldn't remember when. Specifically, my despair over the state of the world combined with years of a stressful busy job left me frayed and burnt out. I was determined to never let myself become so unhappy again and inspired to change a WHOLE lot more. Thus began my journey inward. I literally wrote "My Rewire My Brain Project" at the top of my journal page and outlined all the things I was learning how to do to change my brain and change me. The first was learning to focus and calm my mind. No more did I want to float aimlessly from thought to thought. I read about alpha brain waves and the power of shifting from crazy nonstop thinking beta brain waves. As a scientist, understanding how my brainwave patterns led to unhealthy thinking and stress was a huge light bulb moment for me. You mean I could change my pattern of thinking and be happier? I have control over that?  The answer is definitely yes, you CAN. I set out to change my brainwaves and it profoundly changed my life. And if I can do it, you can too.
