Stephen Kavalkovich helps us get a balanced start to 2022 by joining me again after more than four years. Stephen was originally a guest on episode 23 of the podcast on September 7, 2017, and it is great to catch up and learn more about his progress and path in life.Stephen is a man who has been given the gift of many experiences throughout his life... "For most of my adult life, I was a 911 Paramedic. I also had the honor of serving as a rescue worker at the World Trade Center on 9-11-01 in NYC. I have seen tragedy and suffering first hand for many years. Little was I aware that I was the one who needed the saving. Through seeking peace within by using all things external, I wound up desperate, broken and destroyed in every way. I am now grateful to be a man in long term recovery from substance abuse and destitution. My goal is simple, to use my experience to connect and give you a voice." Stephen's “soul” purpose is to utilize every experience he has had in this earthly existence to heal others. While our struggles, trials, and tribulations connect us, he would like to help remind you who you really are. Stephen is an Energy Healer, Wounded Warrior, Connector, Podcast Host. Life has been topsy turvy for nearly everyone, but several life changes have made Stephen's life more exciting than even most. Hear them discuss how they are managing life amid these difficult times of the pandemic and civil unrest.Stephen Kavalkovich, host of Rescue the Rescuer and CEO of Rescue Consulting, served as a paramedic for most of his adult life. His most memorable work was at the World Trade Center on 9-11-01. Although his work during this event left a lasting impression on him, his most impactful lessons came from his work as a paramedic in the state of New Jersey. Stephen saw numerous victims of overdose, reviving many of them. He eventually battled his own addiction issues; he lost his certification, career, marriage, and children. Eventually, he was able to overcome his addiction. Stephen endeavors to open up the conversation about addressing the underlying pain, trauma, and lack of coping skills that makes one decide to self-medicate. Stephen knows first hand that no one is immune to addiction. He shares his story to give others the courage to voice their pain. https://www.mentalhealthnewsradionetwork.com/our-shows/rescue-the-rescuer/

Rescue the Rescuer host, Stephen Kavalkovich, introduced us to first responders Ben Vernon and Jared Cheselske. We sat down for a live interview to discuss their journey as fire fighters and first responders who are advocating for everyone in their field to take mental health seriously. On June 24, 2015, Ben Vernon's life changed. While responding to a “routine medical assistance” call, he was stabbed multiple times by a bystander. The incident and the ensuing ordeal left Ben with a changed perspective. Ben shares his story so that others, who may be going through a similar situation, can know that what they are experiencing is not their fault and that they are not alone. He wants others to know the impact this kind of event can have on a person, and how best to help someone who is going through crisis.Jared Cheselske sits down for the first interview he's done on radio to discuss the multiple trauma's he's endured in his career and how they eventually took their tole on his mental well being. His story is like many other first responders who don't have appropriate access to mental healthcare or understanding around how to effectively handle the stress of their work. Full article here.

My guest today is Stephen Kavalkovich, host of "Rescue the Rescuer" and a recovering addict with a powerful story to tell. Today's episode will hit a personal note with most of our listeners since nearly all of us either know somebody who struggles with drug addition or have experienced it ourselves. At first glance addiction and its effects on society might not seem like a topic befitting Eschaton but as you'll hear in the introduction to this episode, the eschaton isn't just about "last things" or "the end times." It's much more than that - it's about the restoration of all things to their perfect design and original intent. As a group of people who look to a brighter future and a better way to live on this blue orb we call home, we can never get there without curing the ills that have infected our society and devastated so many of our families. This is no longer an issue that is isolated to those on the margins of society or the poor and overlooked. With the rise of the opioid epidemic in recent years, which has wreaked havoc on middle-class white America, we've begun to see how every social class is vulnerable to addiction. Steve's story and insights are intended to serve as a lifeline for those who feel like they're drowning or or have been forgotten by their peers. This episode is a reminder that each of us is our brother's keeper and that the only way we rise is by rising together. Stephen is a long time NJ resident who has been given the gift of many experiences in life. For most of his adult life, he served as Paramedic for 15+ years in many jurisdictions in NJ, PA, and DE. He also had the honor of serving as a rescue worker at the World Trade Center on 9-11-01 in NYC. Stephen has seen tragedy and suffering first hand. While saving countless overdose victims in his career, he always felt a pang of sadness when his colleagues would treat a hurting person poorly due to their ignorance of the problem. Little did they know that he soon would be no different than many of his patients and that he was the one who needed the saving. It took him overdosing multiple times and having been revived by former colleagues, losing his certification, career, marriage, and children to finally stop Stephen from working towards his grave and start working a recovery program. His focus is to open up the conversation about addressing the underlying pain, trauma, or lack of coping skills that makes one decide to self-medicate in the first place. If it can happen to the rescuer himself then who perhaps “should have known better”, thus showing proof that no one is immune to the disease of addiction. Stephen’s story has to be told to give others the courage to voice their pain. Pain shared is pain lessened. He has expertise in Emergency Medical Care, First Responder PTSD and Substance Abuse issues, Recovery Coaching, Intervention, Leadership, and Spiritual Studies. He is also a charter member of the Southern Delaware Toastmasters International Club. He is available for coaching, mentorship, speaking engagements, guest interviews, content production, and consultation services. Stephen is proud to be the host and creator of the Rescue the Rescuer show, the only show in the world geared towards first responders who battle mental health issues including PTSD, Substance Abuse Disorder, and more. His show is hosted on the Mental Health News Radio Network where he also serves as the Director of Network Compliance. Stephen is regularly sought out for national and international TV, podcasts, and print media for his expertise. He welcomes you to book him for a free consultation, so we can devise a plan to meet your unique needs.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast?
