We were overwhelmed with submissions for this book over the past two years, because it seems like every cat owner has a story about how their cat improved their life, made them a better person, taught them how to live in the moment, and other good things like that. And almost all of the cats in our book were rescues of some kind, either from a shelter or as stray cats that found a home. What's amazing is how often those RESCUED cats become the RESCUERS, and also HEROES. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Leadership is a word that has become completely bastardized in modern culture. Everywhere you turn, someone is hyping you up on why you need to become a better leader, the benefits of leading versus following, and how exactly you should do it. But what if I told you, it's not the tactics that make you a leader but the mindsets that spell the difference. My good friend, brother, and leadership coach, Kipp Sorensen, joins me today to talk about what it really means to lead in a world where every man thinks they're leading well. We address the two types of destructive leaders, the “BAR” acronym (behavior, actions, results) and which to focus on, how 83% of people in the workforce view their position in the company (and what you can do about it), why a “compensation” package is about more than just money, and the do's and don't's of effective leadership. In this deeply personal and illuminating solo episode, Kat continues exploring the victim–perpetrator–savior triangle—this time through the lens of the rescuer. What happens when our instinct to protect and fix becomes another loop keeping us—and others—stuck? Using a real-life experience from Mother's Day, Kat shares the powerful moment she recognized her own impulse to rescue her son and how it revealed a deeper spiritual invitation: to become the field itself, rather than the actor within the story. From reparenting and presence to energetic sovereignty and exiting outdated paradigms, this episode is a masterclass in how to stop reinforcing loops of drama, and instead co-create a reality rooted in frequency, alignment, and pure creative force. What is discussed: ✨ How the rescuer/savior role hides behind righteousness and protection ✨ Realizing the emotional charge when “saving” your child or loved one ✨ Why motherhood is a sacred spiral for awakening deeper self-awareness ✨ How to stop seeing others as victims—even your own children ✨ Becoming the frequency holder instead of reacting from fear or control ✨ Transitioning from outdated systems into conscious field creation ✨ The unraveling of old feminine codes and the rise of the sovereign solar feminine Takeaways: — You are not here to rescue. You are here to radiate. — The rescuer still plays within the triangle and needs a victim to exist. — We free ourselves not by resisting the old, but by embodying a new frequency. — The shift from acting to being the field is how reality rearranges itself. Nature can be seriously powerful, and sometimes way more dangerous than it looks. Back in July 2011, a 44-year-old man was dancing near the Nakalele blowhole in Maui when he got dragged in by the force of the water. He popped back up with the next wave for a second, but then disappeared for good. Rescuers searched for three days, but sadly, they never found him — it's believed he was swept out into the ocean. Blowholes might look like cool tourist spots, but this shows just how dangerous they can really be. It's a reminder that you should never underestimate the crazy strength of nature. Send us a text! (add your email to get a response)Have you ever noticed a never-ending cycle of drama amongst your family or friend group? In this episode, we talk about how the Drama Triangle might be the hidden pattern keeping your relationships stuck in painful cycles. Whether you're supporting a loved one with mental illness or navigating difficult family dynamics, this pattern will keep you trapped in the pain instead of solving it.Stephen Karpman's Drama Triangle describes three roles that create and sustain relationship dysfunction: the Victim (feeling helpless and powerless), the Persecutor (critical and blaming), and the Rescuer (rushing to fix problems). What makes this pattern so challenging is how people shift between these roles, maintaining the pain while never actually resolving underlying issues. We identify places where we can spot the drama triangle in our own lives—from childhood experiences with divorced parents to adult relationships—showing how these patterns created confusion and heartache. These triangles often form because we're desperately trying to maintain stability, even when that stability is painful. The good news is that understanding these patterns gives you the power to break free. We explore practical ways to step outside your habitual role and ultimately break down the triangle entirely. Rather than seeing these behaviors as character flaws, we frame them as adaptations that once served a purpose but may now be limiting your growth and happiness. This conversation highlights how recognizing these patterns can help you create more authentic connections with loved ones struggling with mental health challenges. Check out KulaMind.com to learn more about our online platform designed to help you break toxic patterns and find peace while supporting someone with mental illness.Resources:https://karpmandramatriangle.com/dt_article_only.htmlSupport the showIf you have a loved one with mental or emotional problems, join KulaMind, our community and support platform. Social Media is full of influencers & self-help gurus preaching about hidden virtue waiting to be unleashed inside your heart. You also hear a lot of this in our recovery community, in the rooms etc. That inner strength is the key to success. It’s the core of Eastern mysticism, New Age thinking: that you can tap into some inner reservoir of goodness. That we have the power within us to conquer whatever lies ahead. But what if Scripture says the exact opposite? What if, apart from Christ, there is no divine spark inside us, but a rebellious, rotting sin nature, itching to break out? Searching for redemption within is like digging through a landfill hoping to find buried treasure. You can meditate all you want, cultivate a positive mindset, even convince yourself you hold something sacred. This is a hard truth, but it can also be liberating: There’s nothing of eternal value in our fallen hearts without Christ. We need righteousness that doesn’t come from within, a Rescuer outside of us…to expose what’s really in us. To provide the strength we cannot summon on our own as we seek to battle the sin that is within us.

A Word With You
The Chainsaw In Your Mouth - #9987

A Word With You

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 22, 2025

The man in the Disney movie was an inventor. One of his inventions was a shrinking machine. There's been some suggestions that that's what happened to me - I got into a shrinking machine. Anyway, this actually did happen to his kids' baseball. It crashed through the window of his laboratory. It landed in dad's shrinking machine, turning it on as it landed, and the kids were amazed to see how their ball suddenly shrank. Thinking this machine was really cool, they started playing with it...until the machine suddenly shrank them to an almost invisible size. And the anguished cry of the father is the title of the movie "Honey, I shrunk the kids!" I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "The Chainsaw in Your Mouth." Sadly, too many of us have a shrinking machine that is shrinking our kids, maybe our spouse, other people we love. That shrinking machine is in your mouth. It's a tongue that says things that repeatedly diminish some of the very people you love the most: angry things, cutting things, sarcastic or critical things, discouraging things. It's almost as if we have this verbal chain saw in our mouth that keeps cutting people we care about. It may be that you've been doing this for so long you hardly even notice how destructive some of your words are. But the people who are hearing them are not only noticing your words, it's quite possible they will never forget them. We can still remember the names we were called decades ago, right? Some of us have even defined our self-worth, or our lack of self-worth, based on some of those shrinking things that someone said to us. That's how what you say impacts those you love. There's so much power in your words! The Bible doesn't talk about a verbal chainsaw, but it does talk about a verbal sword. It says, in Proverbs 12:18, "Reckless words pierce like a sword." Proverbs 18:21 raises the stakes even higher: "The tongue has the power of life and death." Your words are either making the people around you feel more alive inside, or it's killing them inside. We replay people's failures over and over, we diminish people by constantly comparing them to someone else, we mark them, maybe for life, with the names we call them. We spew out reckless words to win the moment, but we scar someone for life. Jesus said, "Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:35). A runaway mouth comes from something down deep inside; a dark, angry, wounded heart. Until the heart gets fixed, the mouth is just going to keep shrinking and scarring people we care about. It's all part of this sin thing the Bible talks about; our separation from God because we've pushed Him out to do the things we want to do the way we want to do them. The hurt we inflict comes from a sinful heart. God knows that. That's why He sent His one and only Son to pay the price for our sin, to rise from the dead, to make it possible to be forgiven for every hurting thing, every unholy thing I've ever done or said. Ezekiel 36:26-27, our word for today from the Word of God, makes this incredible promise: "I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit in you. I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleanness." A new heart, cleansed by Jesus' forgiveness, and filled with His love. And a new beginning for any man or woman who reaches out to Jesus in total faith, admitting their sin, surrendering their sin, and grabbing Jesus as their personal Rescuer from their personal sin. If you have never done that, today tell Him, "Jesus, I'm Yours." I want to invite you to as soon as you can today, get over to our website and walk with me into what it takes to actually know that you have begun your personal relationship with Jesus. Just go to ANewStory.com. Because of Jesus, it doesn't have to be the way it's always been. He's been loving and changing people for a long, long time, and He's waiting to do that for you today. Letting Jesus into your life is the most loving thing you'll ever do for the people you love.

On Palm Sunday, a huge crowd excitedly welcomed Jesus as king and rescuer. But within days, they abandoned him to die a shameful, torturous death – crucifixion. Even seeing their Messiah right there in the flesh, they'd missed him. What about us? Are we fully devoted to Jesus as our King and Rescuer? Or will we miss him too?

The Drama Triangle Explained: How to Reclaim Your Power The Drama Triangle, a concept developed by psychologist Stephen Karpman, illustrates how individuals can become entangled in a cycle of emotional exhaustion and conflict through three distinct roles: the victim, the rescuer, and the villain. Each role plays a significant part in perpetuating drama in our lives, often without our conscious awareness. Host Tonya Leigh explores the concept of the Drama Triangle, a framework that reveals the subconscious patterns we create in our lives. The discussion highlights how many people gravitate towards drama, whether for a sense of identity, adrenaline, or connection, often without realizing it. Tonya emphasizes that while some drama may serve a purpose, much of it keeps us trapped in familiar, chaotic states, preventing us from experiencing peace and ease in our lives.  Tune in as we break down the three roles in the Drama Triangle—victim, villain, and hero—and how to recognize and escape these patterns to achieve a more elegant and fulfilling life. 00:47 - The Allure of Drama: Why We Create It 01:03 - Craving Peace and Elegance 02:09 - Role 1: The Victim 04:16 - The Victim's Self-Image 07:10 - Role 2: The Rescuer 09:50 - Examples of the Rescuer Role 11:07 - The Rescuer's Self-Image 16:00 - Role 3: The Villain 19:30 - Examples of the Villain Role 22:26 - The Villain's Self-Image 23:32 - Stepping Out of the Drama Triangle 24:03 - Becoming the Main Character Quotes: "What we crave is a sense of ease, a sense of peace, a sense of elegance in our lives, which means that we're going to have to give up some of the drama." "You're not the problem, but you are the solution." "If you want to grow your impact, if you want to have more ease in your life, you must be willing to let other people fail." "I'm only valuable when I'm needed." "The control, the criticism, and the blame comes from a fear of losing control, of not being enough, of being exposed." The complex interplay between law, morality, and human tragedy takes center stage in our latest episode examining three compelling legal cases that highlight how our justice system navigates competing interests. We begin by exploring the "rescuer doctrine" - a legal principle establishing that if someone's negligence creates a dangerous situation, they can be liable for injuries sustained by those who attempt to help. This emerged in a heartrending case involving a woman who rushed to save a person whose wheelchair became stuck on railway tracks as a train approached. Despite her heroic efforts, she couldn't free the wheelchair in time, resulting in the death of the wheelchair user and injuries to herself. The railway company's attempts to avoid a jury trial were rejected by the judge, allowing this sympathetic rescuer to have her day in court. The tension between access to justice and financial realities takes shape in our second case, where a woman with limited means sought to appeal the dismissal of her medical malpractice claim. When the doctor requested she provide $5,000 security for potential legal costs, the court faced a dilemma: demanding full security might deny her right to appeal, while waiving it entirely would unfairly burden the doctor with legal expenses for what appeared to be a weak claim. The Court of Appeal struck a compromise, requiring just $1,000 security and extending the payment deadline - demonstrating how judges must sometimes find middle ground when principles collide. Finally, we delve into the emotionally charged issue of faith-based hospitals refusing to provide medical assistance in dying. When a terminal cancer patient had to be transferred from St. Paul's Hospital for MAID services, causing her additional suffering, it sparked litigation questioning whether religious exemptions can override patient rights. The case has attracted numerous interveners representing various perspectives, revealing how our courts manage cases with broad societal implications.Have you encountered situations where competing rights created difficult legal questions? Share your thoughts and join our conversation about how the justice system balances competing interests.Follow this link for a transcript of the show and links to the cases discussed.

Word of Wisdom: Echoes of Rebellion, Whispers of Inheritance: The Unthinkable Turnaround April 1st, 2025: Ever stared into the mirror and seen not a friend, but a hostile stranger? That's where I found myself. Not just at odds with the world, but waging war with the very essence of who I was. I chased shadows, called sin my comfort, and danced on the edge of a self-made abyss. And then, the light crashed in. Suddenly, I wasn't just a flawed human; I was an enemy. A rebel against the very One who breathed life into me. It wasn't a comfortable revelation. It was a gut-wrenching, soul-shaking moment of truth. Ever felt the weight of your own rebellion? It's a heavy burden. Why, in the face of our cosmic ingratitude, would the Creator even bother? Romans 3:23, right? We're all in the same boat, shipwrecked on the shores of our own failures. Adam's legacy, Psalm 51:5 tells us, runs deep. We're born with a bent towards brokenness. But here's the mind-blowing twist: when God pulls back the curtain of holiness, exposing our true state, He doesn't leave us in the darkness. He sends a Rescuer. A bridge. A crazy, beautiful, unthinkable act of love. Romans 5:10? We were His enemies, and He chose to make us family. Think about it: Jesus, the spotless Lamb, becoming sin-stained for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21 isn't just a verse; it's a cosmic exchange. He took the punishment we deserved, paying the debt we couldn't. Romans 6:23? Death's sting is gone, replaced with an eternal inheritance, all through the power of the Holy Spirit. From enemy to… heir? From rebel to… beloved child? It's not a makeover; it's a resurrection. It's a complete, radical, soul-deep transformation. Now, let's get real: Knowing this, feeling this, living this… it changes everything. It challenges us to look in the mirror and ask: Am I still clinging to the old rebellion, or am I truly walking as a child of the King? Am I just intellectually acknowledging this truth, or am I living it out in every messy, beautiful moment of my life? This isn't about just changing our status; it's about changing our story. So, how will your story unfold? Will you continue to live as an enemy, or will you fully embrace the inheritance that's been bought for you with blood and grace? The question isn't just for today; it's for every heartbeat moving forward. Pastor James Sutton II

Earthquake Hope - #9950

A Word With You

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 28, 2025

Stranded on the highest mountain on earth. Or buried beneath the rubble of a shattered hotel. After the earthquake that rocked that mountain kingdom of Nepal, thousands of people lost their lives. Many more found their world, their homes, actually their lives wiped away. There were some who survived the quake, but they faced the prospect of dying in the aftermath. Like those climbers on Mt. Everest, trapped on the mountain by massive avalanches. Or that 27-year-old man, lying amidst the stench of dead bodies, trapped for 82 hours under mountains of concrete. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Earthquake Hope." One six-letter word. That was the difference between life and death for the men on the mountain and the man in the rubble. Rescue. That's the "hope" word that we keep hearing in the heartbreaking news from great disasters all over the world. In this one, 18 climbers died when part of Everest collapsed on their base camp. There were 140 surviving climbers, but when they tried to go down through the escape route, it was impossibly blocked by fallen rocks. And as time passed, their food was running out; their water was running out. And then the choppers came. One after another they landed somehow on that mountain, saved those climbers, taking out two at a time. Then there was young Rishi. He was running out of hope, he was running out of life. Beneath that collapsed hotel. Then, after ten hours of digging through concrete, the rescuers broke through. Rishi is alive...the climbers were alive...because the rescuers came. Hope in Nepal depended on - as it is in so many disasters - a rescuer from above. And that's where the news intersects my life and yours. Because hope for me depended on a rescuer from above. At the spiritual crossroads of my life. I was trapped in a place where I would have died. Except my Rescuer came. His name is Jesus. The One called "Savior" by millions of people around the world. That's Savior as in Rescuer. In fact, the Bible says in our word for today from the Word of God in Galatians 1:3, "Jesus gave His life for our sins...in order to rescue us." Not to start a religion. Not to be an example or a teacher. But to rescue us. So, it isn't about a religion, called Christianity, it's about a rescuer named Jesus. He came to rescue us at the cost of His life. Because I - and a world of folks like me - was facing spiritual death for dethroning God in my life. Letting Him run the universe while I ran me. His Book makes the outcome of those sinful choices, unmistakable. It says, "The soul that sins shall die" (Ezekiel 18:3). Here, a life without meaning. Hereafter, an eternity without hope. But, thank God, the Rescuer came! From above. To a cross. To die for my sin and yours so we don't have to. Amazingly, in the words of Galatians 2:20 in the Bible, "He loved me and gave Himself for me." First person singular. The death of Christ on the cross for my sins. Then He blasted out of His grave three days later. To reach into my rubble. To reach into your rubble. To save us from certain spiritual death. If you're ready to make The Rescuer your personal Rescuer from your sin, if you want to begin this life-saving, eternity-changing relationship with Jesus, I invite you to tell Him right now, "Jesus, I'm yours." And go to our website where you can get this confirmed and be sure you belong to Him. That website is ANewStory.com. There was a day that Jesus reached for me. This may be the day He is reaching for you. Would you grab His nail-scarred hand, my friend? You will be safe. Forever.
