I scrolled past one of Shannon Vought's Tik Tok posts about returning to work after a Bipolar 2 diagnoses and I knew that I had to talk to her about this topic. One of the most difficult parts of recovery can be finding a job and boss that understand a mental health diagnoses and are able to make the approriate accommodations, or at least be open to learning how to help. I have always said that when health is a priority and our energy is harnesses or nurtured in the right way, there is no one more creative or hard working than someone with bipolar. That being said, when overworked and overused, there can be nothing more detrimental to our health and well-being. Shannon was kind enough to stop by and tell her inspiring story from bounncing around jobs, a hospitalization, and then ultimately finding employment and a boss that was the right fit. All this and more on today's episode of Good Air. Breathe it in! You can find Shannon on Tik Tok at @shewearsgrippysocks Learn more about Joe... Joseph S. Today on Good Air Joe is joined by poet, writer (www.justagirlwithcrutches.com), musician, social work student, and disabilities advocate Lacey Richcreek about what it was like going from just a girl telling her to story to an overnight Tik Tok sensation and influencer. She said that remaining humble and not letting it go to her head has been the key to maintaining a positive and healthy attitude in the midst of her success. Today is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day and March was Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Lacey has an incredible message to share. Yes, it is okay to notice the disabilities that one may have and to be patient, as well as offer help in the places that your loved one may need it, at the same time try to look past the disability to the person on the inside. Which if you give it a chance, you may find out that we all have a lot more in common than we have differences. As always, thank you for tuning in! Clinical Psychologist and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Nicole Lippman-Barile drops in to talk with Joe about the mind-body connection. As Nicole acquired her doctorate in Clinical Psychology and specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her mid-20s, she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). After going through a series of unfortunate negative experiences with gynecologists (who wouldn't test her despite her concerns) Nicole wanted to pursue other answers. During this process she started breaking down her diet. She was eating fast food 24/7 and her sleep was nowhere to be found. Working out also felt like a chore. After making huge shifts in her own diet she quickly became obsessed with the connection between diet and mental health. Then decided to get certified to teach her patients the same things that had helped her feel well again.
