Friends of the Rosary, Today, November 18, the Catholic Church celebrates the dedication of the Basilicas of Sts. Peter and Paul in Rome. Today's feast is a spiritual journey to two holy tombs, the place of each apostle's martyrdom. The Basilica of St. Peter at the Vatican was built over the tomb of St. Peter, where he was executed, and where Nero's Circus stood. St. Paul-Outside-the-Walls, situated at the other end of the city on the Ostian Way, is built near where St. Paul was martyred. It was almost destroyed by fire in 1823, rebuilt sumptuously by Gregory XVI and Pius IX, and consecrated in 1854. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come! Friends of the Rosary, Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul (d. 64-67).We venerate the two great Apostles and Martyrs, the solid rock on which the Church of Christ is built. God's providential guidance led them to Rome, the capital of the Empire at that time, and today, the center of the Christian world from where the Gospel is radiated. St. Peter was buried on the hill of the Vatican, on the site of the Basilica of St. Peter's. St. Paul was beheaded in the Via Ostia, where now stands the basilica bearing his name.Millions of Christians have gone on pilgrimage to the tombs of these Apostles down the centuries. IN THIS PODCAST: Today we celebrate the two pillars - Sts Peter and Paul, who were the foundation of the church after Jesus. Jesus inspired these two unique individuals and called them to fulfill a mission in the church. Fr. Christopher points out that in the same way, we are also entrusted with a unique call to fulfill our mission in the church today. He opens our eyes to answer this call from God in all faith and sincerity. This is an awakening call that each and every one of us is unique and each one has a particular mission to be fulfilled using all the talents and resources that we are blessed with. This homily was preached on the passage from Mt 16:13-17 by Rev. Fr. Christopher Ponnusamy, CSsR, on 29 June 2022. Let us reflect and pray to the Lord

This week we will be exploring the saints who are celebrating feast days, and the great impact they made on the Church. Each of these stories reminds us of the power of the Holy Spirit, which enables us to proclaim the truth, face death with love and remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Here is a preview of who we will be discussing: Monday is the feast day of St. Jose Maria Escriva. Learn about Opus Dei and how we can make our ordinary work holy! Tuesday is the feast day of St. Cyril of Alexandria, a Doctor of the Church who taught clearly about the nature of Christ and Mary as the Theotokos. Wednesday is the feast day of Irenaeus of Lyon. Through Irenaeus we have a special view of how the Faith passes from one person the next. Thursday is the feast day of Sts Peter and Paul who, tradition tells us, where martyred in Rome on the same day (June 29th, 67). Finally, on Friday we celebrate the First Martyrs of Rome, those brave people who died willing for Jesus after Nero burned down Rome in the year 64. Dr. Scott Hahn discusses the connection, respect, and brotherhood of these two powerhouse saints of the first century. Many picture them in disagreement and look to their opposition as a cause of the Protestant break-away, but as Dr. Hahn points out, this is the farthest thing from the truth! Otherwise, why would they SHARE a feast day?? Check out a Paul and Peter reflection by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI here
