Integrity, It is hard to come in this modern society. When the ends justify the means it's okay to lie, cheat and steal. Hey you can even bare false witness about your neighbor. You can say you had nothing to do with a political decision even when the facts say otherwise. In this episode of Along The Way, Fr. Gabriel Burke joins Dave and Deacon Dave to discuss an incident that made the national news in Ireland. A pro choice politician attempted to receive communion at a funeral. This episode is about integrity, the integrity that Fr. Burke had to stand his ground and say no! In this episode Fr Burke shares some valuable advice about sticking to your guns so that we can be men or women of integrity and children of God.

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time I want to talk about 2 things today: How do we as Catholics respond to an election? What will actually change our country for the better? This weekend I preached in my hometown of Hudson, Wisconsin, at the parish of St. Patrick where I grew up. It was a blessing to be home! (One disclaimer is that the answer to the homiletic answer to first question above I begged, borrowed, and stole from an excellent homily of my own Deacon Dave DiSera of Hayward which he gave the weekend before the election. I thought that his words were so pertinent they bore repeating. So thank you, Deacon Dave!)
The Political season is once again upon us. I have to say that I have not seen that many political advertisement's this time. I guess because I live in a state that is dominated by the democratic ideology. I, at one point in my life followed the tides of politics, believing that that my vote made a difference. Then out of shear frustration I gave up on politics and politicians. I became a person that didn't think what happens in Washington had any real effect on me. Now with the price of food and everything else on the rise and the wars that rage on I once again have turned my eyes back to the political arena in hopes that someone has an answer to the problems we face as a nation. In this episode Fr. Skip Thompson talks with Deacon Dave and Dave about every Catholics Civic Duty to vote. You may feel as if your vote doesn't count …but stand up and make your voice heard by casting you vote.

This episode was hard for Deacon Dave. It is dedicated to his brothers Peter and Paul Imhof. Sadly for us this year they both passed on to their eternal reward. This casual conversation is a simple reminder that death will eventually run us down and when the chase is over we will breathe our last breath and be face to face with God. Please remember to have Masses said for those that have gone before you. Remember to pray for the dead. Jesus I trust in You!
No God, no peace. Know God know peace. However you say it, it is a true statement. In this society of sensationalism being the bearer of bad news can raise us to the status of celebrity. Bad news can be worth millions of dollars for those that control the twenty four hour news cycle. This is only one aspect of life that can rob us of the peace that Jesus Christ promised us. So how do we keep that peace or find it in the first place? In this episode Father Gabriel Burke, host of the podcast “Forgotten Treasures” talks with Down The Hall Dave and Deacon Dave about finding peace through trust in God. John Lennon said “Give peace a chance”, maybe the reason the world is falling apart is because we don't give God a chance…the source of true peace. Deacon Dave preached on how we must be prepared for the moment when Jesus meets us along the way. Life is filled with opportunities and virtue is often found in the space between experience and response.
It may be hard to imagine that suffering can be beautiful. Even more so, there is an intimacy that can be found as we unite our sufferings with those of Christ. AJ and Deacon Dave share stories that exemplify this point. Often, suffering does not look beautiful, but just like God, we must look into the heart of the person. When we do, we are able to enter into the sufferings of others.
