Beloved Australian songwriter Paul Kelly has just turned 70 – “it sounds Biblical, threescore years and ten.” He looks back here at the road he took to get there, from early days in Adelaide to the pub circuit to his catalogueof stirring and eloquent songs about the big issues of life and love, as Neil Finn says, “with not a trace of pretence or fakery”. You'll find … … the moment he felt he'd arrived … the story of How To Make Gravy – “a Christmas song with no chorus about a man in prison” – and Rita Wrote A Letter, its ghostly sequel … early records he loved – Tommy Roe, Peter Paul & Mary, Yes, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, the “chaotic” Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong … life on the Melbourne pub circuit playing Neil Young, Gram Parsons and Hank Williams … touring with Leonard Cohen – “a masterclass in performance, like a prayer, a ritual, like a Vaudevillian Rabbi” .. the storytelling songs of the Stanley Brothers, the Louvin Brothers and Buck Owens ... the great Calypso cricket tradition and the track he wrote about Shane Warne … “the odd-sock drawer”: the file in his computer where he stores early sketches … I'm In Love With A Blue Frog, the five chords that underpinned 50 years of songwriting! … the intricacy of Neil Finn's impressionistic lyrics … and the things you hear in your songs when someone else sings them. ***  Vragen, suggesties of feedback? “Life is about risk, so we will always have risk. You can't ski without learning how to fall in the snow, take off your skis, get back on your feet, and put your skis back on. You need to practise that, not only through education, but by doing.” That is one of the takeaways from the first ever Leaders in Finance Risk Event. Live from Amsterdam, host Kees de Wit reflects with three speakers from the event on the key topics and, more importantly, the main lessons of the day. Joining Kees de Wit are Owen Strijland, Managing Director at Protiviti; Carina Kozole, CRO at ING NL; and Daniël Smidts, Managing Director at Corporater. Together, they discuss the questions of the day: how has the risk landscape changed? What has changed in the decision making of a risk manager? And what can technology really bring into the risk function: is it a risk, or can it help? With real examples, such as what happens to your colleagues during a power outage in Spain, and the unexpected side effects of running electricity on diesel, they share insights that lead to one final question: who, or what, is a risk manager today? ***  Vragen, suggesties of feedback? Wokół The Weavers powstało grono zespołów i, powiedzmy, bardów popularyzujących ludową muzykę Amerykanów. Pete Seeger i Lee Hays z The Weavers stanęli nawet w 1955 przed Komisją Izby Reprezentantów ds. Działalności Antyamerykańskiej. Mimo to, jeszcze w tym samym roku właśnie Seeger z kolegami dali sygnał do rozpoczęcia drugiej fali odrodzenia folkowego. W wigilę bożego narodzenia The Weavers dali porywający koncert w Carnegie Hall. W ich ślady poszły inne zespoły, takie jak Peter Paul and Marry, The Chad Mitchel Trio, Brothers Four. Jeszcze w „kawiarnianych” czasach odrodzenia folkowego, młoda piosenkarka Niela Halleck (później po mężu Horn Miller) napisała i wykonywała piosenkę "Baby, Please Don't Go to Town". Ten sam tekst (no prawie) śpiewał Hendrix, ale melodia, aranżacja jeszcze żywo przypomina dzieło Nieli. To głównie za przyczyną Davida Crosbiego i The Byrds, którzy spopularyzowali piosenkę wśród muzyków zachodniego wybrzeża. Audycja zawiera utwory: “Stairway To Heaven” (w tle), wyk. Soren Madsen muzyka: Jimmy Page “Baby, Please Don't Go to Town”, wyk. Niela Miller, słowa i muzyka: Niela Miller “Hey Joe”, wyk. Billy Roberts, słowa i muzyka: Billy Roberts „Hey Joe” wyk. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, słowa i muzyka: Billy Roberts „Norwegian Wood” (w tle) wyk. Herbie Hancock, muzyka: John Lennon, Paul McCartney „Norwegian Wood” wyk. ***  Vragen, suggesties of feedback? ***  Vragen, suggesties of feedback?

On this solemnity, we are reminded by Deacon Dave of our call to be missionaries of hope, just as Saints Peter and Paul were in their time, and as the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal are today. Through faith in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, we are called to bring light to a world in darkness through the way we live, love, and serve.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 16:13-19At that time, when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

When two brothers decide to turn their holiday traditions into a cinematic thrill, they step into a world where creativity is born from the mundane. On today's episode, we welcome Peter Paul and Tony Shaker, the innovative minds behind the indie horror film Killer Christmas. With the echoes of sleigh bells and the flicker of holiday lights, they invite us into their journey of making an 80-minute feature film against all odds. The Shaker brothers, hailing from New Jersey, embraced the modern age of filmmaking, proving that artistry no longer demands lavish sets or big studios. As Peter Paul aptly put it, “You can do this from anywhere, even in the middle of nowhere, if you're willing to put in the work.” From scriptwriting in their basement to editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, their story is an anthem for resourcefulness and determination. What began as a family tradition of Christmas tree cutting in western New Jersey blossomed into a creative spark. They envisioned an eerie story of a derelict retreat house and a masked Santa slashing through the cheer. This whimsical yet haunting idea became the bedrock of Killer Christmas. The brothers' vision materialized with long hours of planning, meticulous scriptwriting, and a bold decision—Tony quit his day job to chase the dream of making their first feature film.Filming on a shoestring budget came with its own set of hurdles. The Adler Hotel in Sharon Springs, New York, served as the perfect abandoned setting, but its ominous atmosphere wasn't just cinematic. The brothers encountered mysterious sounds, unexplained footprints, and eerie vibrations during their shoot. "It felt like the hotel was alive," Tony shared, reflecting on the uncanny experiences that added an authentic layer of unease to their film. From securing a location to overcoming sound challenges, the Shakers demonstrated that passion is the ultimate tool. They shot through snowstorms and frigid nights, relying on ingenuity and collaboration. Their DIY approach extended to props and effects—crafting realistic rubber weapons and digitally adding blood effects in post-production to adhere to safety and insurance standards.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.
