The absence, indifference to, rejection of, or hostility towards religion

Original airdate: April 6, 2021 In recent decades, many people have grown distant from organized religion—disenchanted by its structures, yet still yearning for a meaningful inner life rooted in purpose, reflection, and depth. My guest today, Thomas Moore, reminds us that spirituality doesn't have to be confined to rigid belief systems or purely rational thinking. He invites us to cultivate a personal spiritual style—one that can exist within religion, outside it, or somewhere beautifully in between. Thomas is the author of 24 books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Care of the Soul. His own journey has been richly unconventional: once a Catholic monk, later a scholar with a PhD in religious studies, and eventually a psychotherapist and university professor. His work weaves together spirituality, mythology, depth psychology, and the arts, with a deep reverence for imagination and symbolic life. Through his writing and lectures around the world, he seeks to help restore soul to modern culture. In this thoughtful and expansive conversation, Thomas explores how we can personalize religion and make spirituality truly our own. He shares both traditional and unexpected pathways to mystical experience—and offers gentle guidance on how to bring soul and sacredness into everyday life.

Far beyond political narratives or academic theories, this show cuts straight to the heart of the spiritual, cultural, and ideological forces shaping the modern world. We reveal why Christians have become the primary target of secular hostility — not because of political affiliation or cultural tradition, but because biblical truth directly confronts a society desperate to redefine morality, identity, and even reality itself. We examine the growing and deeply alarming rise of antisemitism across college campuses, major cities, corporations, and activist movements, showing how the secular world now targets Jewish communities not only for their history or heritage, but for their very identity. This show takes an unflinching look at how the secular West separates Christians and Jews into categories of “danger” or “privilege,” while simultaneously elevating Islam into a protected ideological status — even where Islamic beliefs contradict the very secular values being defended. We break down how and why this double standard emerged, how it fuels division, and how it exposes the deeper spiritual battle at work in our culture today. From geopolitical tensions to religious censorship, from campus riots to global media narratives, from biblical prophecy to real-world persecution, this program delivers a comprehensive, eye-opening examination of the cultural forces shaping our world. It uncovers the ideological war being waged against Christianity and Judaism, reveals why Islam is viewed through a completely different lens, and explains how all of this fits into the rapidly intensifying spiritual landscape of the last days.Rev. David Paxton and JD Williams tonight present bold, honest, and unapologetically biblical truth. This show challenges viewers to see the world clearly, recognize the spiritual manipulation behind secular narratives, and understand the deeper prophetic implications for the Church, for Israel, and for every believer standing firm in a shaking world. For more information or to support our Ministry, please visithttps://www.lastchristian.net/

Fr. Roger Chikri of the Marionite fathers discusses the Biblical roots of Lebanon and Pope Leo's visit, and Dr. Mark Cherry discusses bioethics for a post-Christian world.
“Christ the King Sunday isn't about power—it's about presence. On a hill with three crosses, a dying man whispers, ‘Jesus, remember me,' and the dying King replies, ‘Today you will be with me.' Maybe that's where the kingdom really begins: in remembering, in mercy, in hope stronger than despair.”

Many have sought the world's promises and turned up empty-handed, and while outright opposition to Christianity has slowly transitioned into curiosity, we as the Church don't have the luxury of sitting back. As Tyler Moffet walks us through 2 Timothy 3:10-4:8, we're reminded that we can't settle for fitting into a secular world — we're called to become consecrated followers of Jesus no matter the cost.

In this conversation, Jason sits down with Dom Ruso, pastor of The 180 Church in Greater Montreal, to talk about the joys and challenges of church planting in one of the most secularized contexts in North America.Dom shares openly about his discernment journey, how God drew him and his wife back to Quebec despite initial resistance, and what it has looked like to build a church community from scratch in a region where many are spiritually open but institutionally skeptical.Jason and Dom explore themes that matter deeply to pastors today:Dom's honest wrestle with returning to Quebec, and the slow ways God confirmed the call to plant a church there. The unique dynamics of Quebec culture and what it means to preach the Bible in ways that connect with people who carry wounds from religion or who feel indifferent toward Christianity. How congregations can embody health and unity in a divided cultural landscape, and what Canada's regional differences can teach us about God's work across the country. Why it's not enough to “tell” people what the Bible says, but to invite them into its story, and how plot points of Scripture resonate with modern longings for justice, meaning, and identity. Why it matters to recover a distinct vision of pastoral calling, and how the overlap with modern leadership and coaching culture can blur what shepherding the people of God really means.Dom also talks about his new book, The Bible for a Shifting Secular Age, which brings together his pastoral experience and academic work to offer handles for understanding secularism and fresh ways of presenting Scripture today.Show Notes The 180 ChurchThe Bible for a Shifting Secular AgeGive to our $30,000 August Match CampaignFall 2025 Pastors Retreat at Barnabas LandingThe Pastorate Listener SurveyThank You to Our Episode SponsorSpecial thanks to the Canadian Bible Society for making this episode possible. Dr. Sri examines the secular world's values, promises of salvation, and utopian ideals, and contrasts these with the core tenets of the Gospel. In her talk at Living Well at the End of a World, Sarah Shortall examines the experiences of French Jesuit priests during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period marked by anti-clericalism and exile, and how these crises led to a revolution in Catholic theology known as the Nouvelle Théologie. Forced out of France, the Jesuits found themselves on the island of Jersey, where they rethought the Church's role in public life within a modern, secular context, with key figures like Henri de Lubac and Gaston Fessard leading a “spiritual resistance" to fascism during World War II. Shortall draws parallels to our current moment of transition, suggesting we can learn from the French Jesuits' ability to adapt to modernity and maintain a critical distance from political entanglements. The Morningside Institute hosted a two-day conference on April 4–5, 2025. On its first day, the conference examined some of the radical changes that Western societies are undergoing. On the second day, we explored in greater detail historical examples of how communities have navigated periods of intense cultural change and even devastation. We've all heard the stories of people raised within American evangelicalism who became disillusioned because of abuse, scandals, or political idolatry. Some migrated to more progressive church traditions while others deconstructed their faith entirely. Joshua Harris, made famous for his seminal purity culture book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," was in the latter category. Harris now says he is emerging from "a season of overcorrection," having seen the "bully energy" in progressive spaces, and that he is curious about Jesus again. Then, Katilyn talks to feminist author Leah Libresco Sargeant about her provocative new book, "The Dignity of Dependence." In this powerful discussion, we delve into the sacred bonds of marriage and the importance of maintaining strong boundaries. While no specific scripture is directly quoted, the message strongly echoes the principles found in Ephesians 5:33, which calls husbands to love their wives and wives to respect their husbands. We explore how seemingly innocent interactions can potentially dishonor our spouses and compromise the sanctity of our marital covenant. The conversation challenges us to examine our own behavior, asking whether we're truly putting our spouse first in all situations. Are we, perhaps unknowingly, inviting temptation or disrespecting our partner through our actions? This message reminds us that building trust takes time and consistent effort, but it's crucial for a thriving, God-centered marriage.
