The 190 passengers of a United Airlines flight from Newark, New Jersey to Palma de Mallorca, Spain had settled into their seats for their overnight flight when the captain gave an announcement: everyone had to turn off their Bluetooth devices — or he was going to turn around the plane. This confounded passengers, because Bluetooth is safe for airplanes. It stays enabled when devices are on airplane mode. El eclipse del 12 de agosto se verá en su totalidad en España y sobre todo en unas zonas especialmente despobladas llamada la ‘España vaciada'. Según el gobierno español, hasta seis millones de personas de desplazarán para ver el fenómeno: una avalancha de turistas que supone un reto y una oportunidad para los pueblos despoblados, como en la provincia de Teruel. Por la enviada especial de RFI a Arcos de las Salinas En Arcos de las Salinas, en la provincia de Teruel, viven 86 habitantes al año. Sin embargo, en estos días, hay mucha agitación sobre todo en el museo Galáctica que prepara un evento de 1.200 personas para ver el eclipse total. “Los cielos oscuros como estos nos permiten observar el universo profundo. El día del evento, por supuesto es luna nueva; en consecuencia, tendremos también esta vía láctea marcando la bóveda celeste”, explica con orgullo Nacho Pérez, responsable del centro. “El mundo rural es el guardián del cielo oscuro. Y gracias al mundo rural, gracias a alcaldes como José Luis, que no contaminan hacia arriba con luces, hoy en día su patrimonio natural que es el cielo estrellado, lo van a pasar a las siguientes generaciones. Este suceso que vamos a vivir es un premio al mundo rural”, explica a RFI. En cuanto al alcalde, José Luis Alvir, más que un premio este eclipse supone un reto: “Tú imagínate un pueblo de 100 habitantes como es el nuestro, que no tenemos ni policía local ni nada…Pues yo tenía miedo de que fuera una avalancha de que todo el mundo hiciera en la montaña un poco lo que quisiera, que vinieran con camper… Desde hace mucho tiempo he alertado al gobierno de Aragón de lo que podía pasar y este año lo llevamos muy dificultoso con los incendios y creo que el gobierno de Aragón ha hecho bien en decretar esta alerta roja para que la gente no pueda hacer lo que quiera” En consecuencia: los vehículos a motor no podrán subir por la carretera que lleva al pueblo y sólo se podrá acceder caminado. Además, el edil consiguió que patrullas de policía y una ambulancia estén movilizados en el pueblo durante el eclipse. Inma Alvir, hermana de José Luis, y gerente del único bar restaurante y del hotel del pueblo está nerviosa: “Es una suerte y un privilegio tenerlo aquí, pero vamos un poco perdidas.”, admite. Hace dos años que sus habitaciones están reservadas, pero sigue recibiendo llamadas a diario de todo el mundo. Según ella, este eclipse es una oportunidad: “Me está llegando mucha gente curiosa al hotel. Y cuando les preguntas te dicen ‘es que yo hago fotografía y estaba deseando este momento'. Entonces yo creo que sí va a tener un poco de repercusión de que va a seguir viniendo gente”, añade. Este 12 de agosto, la “España vaciada” se llenará, aunque, espera, que no sea por un sólo día. El recorrido del eclipse El eclipse total de este 12 de agosto comenzará en Rusia, atravesará el hemisferio norte y pasará debajo de Groenlandia, antes de cruzar el océano Atlántico y llegar a Europa. Este eclipse será total especialmente en una franja que atraviesa España, de Oviedo a Palma de Mallorca pasando por Burgos. El sitio del Instituto Geográfico Nacional (https://visualizadores.ign.es/eclipses/2026) permite visualizar su recorrido. Fuera de esta zona, el fenómeno podrá ser apreciado, pero de manera parcial, incluyendo la vecina Francia.

Submit here.A world-class music festival in the Brainerd Lakes Hedy Holmberg spends the summers by Bay Lake in the Brainerd Lakes Region. In the past five years, she's been attending the Lakes Area Music Festival, which she calls a hidden gem. The series kicks off Friday and runs through Aug. 23 with a series of concerts. Some of the highlights, Holmberg says, are Friday night's gala opening and a performance of Carmen Aug. 14 and 16, both at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts. She also loves bringing her grandchildren to the family-friendly Sound Garden event at the Northland Arboretum in Baxter, in which musicians perform throughout the gardens; that free event is Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. Many of the concerts are also livestreamed. Holmberg says, "It is an absolute hidden gem to have these world-class musicians from all over the world come to Brainerd, Minn., and put on these amazing, high-quality, very professional concerts and other events. It's absolutely astounding to me. “And part of it is when we talk to the musicians, they talk about how much they love to come up here, how welcoming the community is. They stay with people in their lake homes. They develop a relationship with them over the years. I just can't say enough about it." Jazz dance takes center stage Susana di Palma is the founder and advisory artistic director of Zorango Flamenco Dance Theater. She wants dance lovers to know about Rhythmically Speaking's new show, Groovers & Makers, in which four choreographers will premiere new works with their takes on jazz dance. Rhythmically Speaking focuses on jazz, tap and American social dance styles, and di Palma says you'll leave wanting to dance yourself. The show runs Thursday through Saturday at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis. Di Palma is a big fan of artistic director Erinn Liebhard: "Erin's piece will be [about] time, good times and time travels. She is joined by three other choreographers that are all amazing. One is a great angel of a choreographer, Karla Grotting, and she is a master. And then there are two other choreographers: from New York, Maiya Redding, and Alexis Robbins from Connecticut." A graffiti pioneer steps into the gallery Installation artist Eric Rieger, who works under the name Hot Tea, started graffiti writing in 1996 and "immediately gravitated" to the work of George Thompson (aka EWOK). Thompson's exhibit "Zigged When I Should've Zagged" opens Friday and focuses on his studio practice as it has evolved from his graffiti writing. The exhibit includes nine works on paper created since 2020 as well as a print of his 2019 work "Cop Car." The exhibit is presented by Burlesque of North America, which is also launching a limited-edition zine featuring photographs of decades of Thompson's graffiti. The show at the Southside Preservation Society in Minneapolis runs through Aug. 28. Friday's launch from 7-10 p.m. includes a chance to screen-print a t-shirt with one of Thompson's designs. Rieger describes Thompon's style: "I would describe the artwork as almost, like, otherworldly, but also very familiar. It's almost like you're looking at a still life, but from like the year 30,000."
