This Sunday marks the first Sunday of the Advent season. We will light a candle each week of Advent leading up to Christmas Eve, when we will light all five Advent candles. The first candle symbolizes hope. Throughout the Old Testament period, believers in God’s promise of a Messiah looked forward to His coming with hope, longing for relief from their sins, from their enemies, and ultimately from death itself. Jesus our hope was born to die for our sins, and now we wait expectantly in hope for His glorious return.
This Sunday we begin Advent with Waiting for Wrath. But when we hear the word “wrath” our whole being wants to recoil and seek shelter. What we find is that we cannot locate nor produce any real shelter for ourselves. Waiting for the wrath of God will not drive us away to find shelter but rather it will draw us nearer to very grace of God.
This Sunday morning’s message, with Elder Nick Pinneri, instructs us to be more loving to others and to have the love in the Lord in our hearts. The post Walking in Love first appeared on Blessed Hope Chapel Church – Simi Valley, CA.
Have you ever made a poor decision that left you isolated, even ostracized? Maybe it wasn’t even your fault. What’s your next step? How can God take your situation and turn it around? This Sunday, we’ll be talking about how God works His purposes even when He allows all of us to make our own decisions.
This Sunday is the start of Advent, the season in which we anticipate the coming of our Savior at Christmas. This year, our Advent sermon series seeks to connect Israel’s anticipation for the Messiah leading up to the birth of Jesus and our own longings as we wait for Christ to come again. How do we pray between these two Advents?
We all have various titles and ways by which we are known. What others say about us matters, but not as much as what we say about ourselves. This Sunday, we will unwrap five lies the enemy tries to tell us about our identity and uncover the truth of who God says we are.
This Sunday on the Thanksgiving show, we re-visit Michelle and learn about the infamous ZOZO! Funny, ZOZO/2020 hummmm, looks oddly similar don't you think?
We are living in a time of revelation. Revelation has so many facets. It can expose our motives and mindsets, bring us into new ways of thinking, and uncover old mysteries. But one thing all revelation should do is point us to greater truth and give us a better understanding of the amazing grace of Jesus. This Sunday, Pastor Derek discusses how we can navigate the times of revelation we are living in and effectively communicate it to others.
This Sunday’s readings: Jeremiah 3:14-18Jeremiah 23:5-8St. John 6:5-14Return O faithless children.
Paul, in his second letter to Timothy, writes these words: “For this reason, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you…” In Paul’s absence, it seems that Timothy’s zeal and excitement about sharing the Gospel has waned a bit. There is something about presence – both physical and spiritual – that helps us to remain steadfast and focused in our lives of faith. During the past eight months, we have needed to be physically apart as a local expression of the Body of Christ. For some, myself included if I am being honest, there have been times when being separated from our siblings in Christ has brought challenges to keeping the light of faith burning bright. This Sunday morning, Stewardship Celebration Sunday, is an opportunity for us to be renewed and reminded that our faith in Christ is never in vain, and that God continues to work miracles of love and hope – and that God does this not only FOR us but THROUGH us. Are you ready to be used by God? We will see you on Facebook Live Sunday morning at 10:30, and for those who can come Sunday afternoon at 4 pm in person at the Gazebo. -Pastor Derek
This year has been a crazy one, can you agree? Has God taught you something through these difficult circumstances? This Sunday series we will hear from a variety of folks who have had God teach them a valuable lesson during these unprecedented times. This lesson we hear from the Bradley & Jacquelyn Karel who say they have been taught how to love without expectation.
When you’re working on changing things in your life, motivation is everything. If you lack motivation you’ll never achieve what you desire. What motivates you? What fuels your passion to be the best you can be? Jesus was motivated to give his life so we could experience his. Jesus let compassion be the motivation for every choice he made and he’s empowered us to do the same. If you’re struggling to find motivation then give love and kindness a shot. This Sunday we tap into the motivation that will spark a revolution.
“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3) Dear Friends, This Sunday is the last Sunday of the church year. Every year on this day we observe a special tradition at Zion. We remember and give God thanks for the lives of the members of our church family who passed away the previous year. I will read the names of these special folks during the service, to the tolling of the church bells. I invite you to join me online or in church on Sunday. Let us honor the lives of those we lost, and celebrate the gift of eternal life God promises everyone through faith in Christ. As always, we will live stream the worship service from the church sanctuary at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/ZionEvangelicalUCC/. Bless you, Pastor Basile

When the Hebrew prophet Joel spoke forth these Spirit-inspired words, he was in a patriarchal world where women did not normally prophesy. When Jesus came, he included women in his circle of disciples, a Rabbi’s disciples were to go out and become Rabbis themselves. When the Holy Spirit is poured out and the Charismatic ministry of Christ becomes the Charismatic ministry of the Church, Peter declares that “your daughters will prophesy...even women!” This is radical and disrupts gender-based assumptions we take from our cultures and try to baptize. This Sunday we look at one of the “BUT BUT BUT Paul said...” texts in scripture and will argue from a conservative, high view of the Bible that women should speak the Word of the Lord and be pastors and teachers. You don’t have to agree, we are a big tent, but we all need to understand this approach to the text. This Sunday we’re going to talk about how to build a relationship with the Lord. Our vision statement describes the kind of relationship we’re striving to build with the Lord like this: “We each have an active relationship with the Lord – walking with Him and asking what He wants us to do, turning to Him in times of need and joy, getting His help in turning away from what is harmful, learning from Him.” Let’s talk about how we each can make progress towards this vision.
Be encouraged! This Sunday we consider how we can be encouraged as we hold fast to the hope set before us. A hope based upon God’s powerful name, God’s unchanging word and God’s proven faithfulness. Sermon from central gathering on Sunday 22nd November 2020.

This Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King. I've been thinking a lot about the Kingdom of Christ within me, how I surrender to the power of the King, how I turn my life over entirely to the reign of the Kingdom. As we close this year, it is a perfect liturgical Feast to prepare us for Advent and Christmas. Both an end and a beginning.

We live in turbulent and troubling times. Covid spread, economic hardship, racial unrest, and political uncertainty are some of our present realities. How do the words of Christ empower us to face trouble in our world? This Sunday, A. Redd Sevilla, Launch Pastor of New Life East, will explore the answer to this question. We invite you to read John 16 and 17.
This Sunday we are exploring the power of living in Christian Community. In our churches today it has become common to love the idea of being in “real relationship" and yet we hold each other at arm's length, approach relationships from a selfish mindset, or walk away as soon as things get tough. Paul offers us an alternative perspective in his letters to the Corinthian church. He contends that we are too easily influenced by the culture around us and our own immaturity, and that living as ministers of reconciliation is the pathway to healthy relationships and our own spiritual growth as followers of Jesus.
The costs of the global pandemic have been high: lives and jobs lost; family gatherings, celebrations, and memorial services postponed, or cancelled; and physical contact limited with friends and loved ones. At the same time, for some of us, the lockdowns and different pace of life have given us a glimpse of what else might be possible. For a time, the smoggy sky over major world cities cleared. Carbon emissions dropped. Many of us became more clear what really mattered and why. How might these new “pandemic insights” shape our holiday season this year? What would it mean to put the earth first this year? To prioritize what really matters? Though the votes have been counted, and a new president elected, every day, we get to vote with our dollars, our actions, and our relationships. Everyday, we can cast a vote for a more just and fair world, or a vote for the status quo. This Sunday, we explore these questions as we launch our annual Holiday Giving Project, in support of Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism. Words of Welcome- Rev. This Sunday we continue our Vision series with our ninth core value. Alex Rettmann shows us through the early church we see the Church actually is a family. That it was designed to be an infrastructure of service and Hosting the Lords presence. He reminds us that the church is not just a 501c3 or to be ran like a "business" but instead a family that celebrates greatness and makes The Presence of God the priority. This type of family is what creates true diversity and empowerment, and not just uniformity of thought or control. Thanks for listening! We love you family!
This Sunday, Pastor Gary explains why it’s good to live as incomplete people who are both bold and humble as we continue to step into the ways that God has called us to live out the Kingdom. Sunday, November 15, 2020 Audio: Sermon Video: The post Boldness & Humility appeared first on Church Without Walls.
This Sunday, Pastor John preached on Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus tells us “You are the salt of the earth… and You are the light of the world” . We explore how Jesus talks to his disciples together and how we are saved together for God's purposes of preserving and doing good works. You will be encouraged by hearing of the generations of Christians that have come before us to be salt and light in this world. And we imagine what God could have for us in the year to come.
This Sunday we have the famous parable of the talents, where three servants are entrusted with five talents, two talents, and one talent respectively. The first servants trade their talents and earn more while the last servant buries his talent and has it taken away from him. The Gospel concludes, “For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” What does this mean? The talent signifies everything that we’ve received from God: our life, our breath, our family, our friends, our work, our health, our wealth, our gifts, our faith, our church. Some are given five talents, some are given two, and some are given one. Simply put, some are given more while others are given less. And unless we’re tempted to think that the one talent is not a lot, the one talent in this parable is worth up to twenty years of labor, a large sum of money. In other words, the person who receives even one talent still receives a substantial amount. With these talents that we’ve received, some decide to give them and use them and gain more, while some decide to bury them and lose even the little that they had.The point of the parable is this: Our God is a God of generosity who bestows His blessings in abundance. When we become like God and are generous with the blessings we have received, our blessings continue to grow and multiply. But when we don’t become like God and are not generous with what we’ve received, even the little that we have will be taken away from us.If I can state it more concretely: when I’m generous with my time, with my wealth, with my gifts, with my presence, with my love, with my service, God allows all of it to grow and multiply. On the flip side, when I’m overprotective of my time, when I guard my wealth too tightly, when I don’t share my gifts, when I don’t offer my presence, when I don’t express my love, when I don’t give myself to serve, all of these things begin to dwindle away. This is called the Law of the Gift: The more that I give, the more I will receive. The less that I give, even the little that I have will be taken away..The Gospel today is about generosity and challenges us to be generous just as God is generous, confident that when we do this, God continues to pour out His blessings upon us.
This Sunday morning Pastor Joseph Schimmel explains the Trinity, the three Godheads and their differences. The post Understanding the Trinity first appeared on Blessed Hope Chapel Church – Simi Valley, CA.
This Sunday we took a break in our Matthew series to hear how God has been working in and through our church by hearing testimonies from those in our church! We hope you are encouraged and your faith is strengthened by what was shared. All praise be to God for all the work He is doing!
We as believers are called higher to not only pray into situations and have faith (as these are of the upmost importance), but also to act and step out in accordance with scripture. This Sunday, Pastor Chris delivers an impactful message on stepping out under the authority of Jesus to accomplish more than ever before.
"You win some and you lose some." It's a well known expression. But it's not in the Bible. In fact, the Bible insists that there is victory for every battle you're facing in life. The challenge is getting yourself into a position to see and experience the win. This Sunday, Pastor David unpacks the amazing story of King Jehoshaphat to show us how to bring victory into view in our own lives.
If you grew up going to Christian camps or youth groups, you may have sung: “Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning, burning, burning…” This Sunday in worship, we will hear Jesus’ parable of the ten bridesmaids, which is where this little song gets its theme. Join us as we reflect upon the meaning of this story, and see that keeping oil in our lamps isn’t just a message for kids, but for Christians of all ages and stages of life. Read Matthew 25:1-13 to prepare for this Sunday’s worship.
This Sunday we will spend time reflecting on a popular parable of Jesus in the gospel of Matthew, the parable of the talents. A rich man entrusts his servants with a certain number of talents, which was a huge sum of money, and then asks for a reckoning for how they invested it. A parable with many stewardship themes, it nevertheless has a curious wrinkle in it, which says more about us than about God. Let’s think about it this Sunday.
This Sunday, Pastor Alex finishes up our series titled "How Do I Trust God in the Face of Adversity".
