May 18 marks the anniversary of Father Jacques Marquette’s death in 1675. In the Roman Catholic Church, particularly within the Jesuit order, he is memorialized as a dedicated missionary and explorer. Marquette does not have an official universal feast day in the Church because he has not been canonized as a saint. He is currently recognized by the Church as a "Servant of God," meaning a formal cause for his canonization is underway. The Great Lakes and the Upper Mississippi regions were explored by young Jesuit clergyman, such as Jacques Marquette, known as ‘God’s Soldiers’ who evangelized indigenous peoples throughout the vast territories of 17th century New France. Ryan Trask has always been a runner at heart, even when life kept pulling him away from it. From getting cut from his middle school basketball team and stumbling into cross country, to running through job loss, a pandemic, and the chaos of raising four kids, running has been the thing he keeps coming back to. So when he decided it was finally time to run a marathon before 40, it felt less like a new chapter and more like finishing something he'd started a long time ago.But this one was about more than just him. His wife lives with a chronic illness that keeps her from moving the way she'd like to, and somewhere along the way, Ryan decided that if she couldn't run, he was going to run for both of them. That purpose carried him through four months of pre-dawn long runs, a zone two training experiment that humbled him in the best way, a 100-day streak he wouldn't exactly recommend, and a bout of flu A that landed right in the middle of taper.He showed up to the Houston Marathon having done the work, even if it didn't always feel that way. Brian Joyce and Nick Trask of Major League join Caught on the Mike to talk about the band's long-awaited return and the journey that led them back to the stage together. Formed in 2009 in New Jersey, Major League built a passionate following through relentless DIY touring and emotionally driven pop-punk and emo anthems. Their early releases — including The Truth Is…, Variables, and the 2012 full-length Hard Feelings — became staples of the early 2010s scene and connected deeply with fans who grew up in the era of VFW shows, Tumblr culture, and cross-country van tours. In this episode, Brian and Nick reflect on the band's rise, the challenges and growth that came with lineup changes, and the emotions surrounding their 2016 farewell. They also dive into the conversations that led to their reunion, celebrating 15 years of The Truth Is…, and what it means to reconnect with fans after nearly a decade away.
