Boomer, Pinder and Rhett are joined by TSN's Darren Dreger for another loaded edition of The Insider Hotline as they dive into some of the biggest stories from around the NHL. Dregs shares the latest on the Edmonton Oilers' pursuit of Mike Babcock and what could be next as questions continue to surround his potential return behind an NHL bench. The guys also discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs hiring Jim Hiller as their next head coach and what the move says about the direction of the organization under new GM John Chayka. The conversation shifts to Vegas, where the Golden Knights move on from John Tortorella after his run to the Stanley Cup Final and hand the reins over to Ryan Craig, while also examining the future of Rasmus Andersson and whether a long-term extension remains the most likely outcome. Along the way, the crew touches on the futures of Darnell Nurse and Morgan Rielly, plus one of the biggest rumours in hockey as speculation continues to grow around a potential Connor Hellebuyck trade and what a franchise-altering move like that would mean for the Winnipeg Jets. On this episode of Flames Talk, Pat Steinberg and Logan Gordon take a look ahead to free agency with just two weeks to go, and what it all means for the Flames. The guys discuss the expectation that Calgary could be relatively quiet on July 1, why a number of pending UFAs like Ryan Lomberg, Justin Kirkland, and Victor Olofsson may not return, and how that opens the door for younger players to take on bigger roles. They also explore whether there's room for low-risk additions on the market, including the potential of a buy-low opportunity, before opening the textline. (31:05) The focus then shifts to the NHL Draft, now just over a week away, as the conversation around Calgary's options continues to heat up. Pat and Logan zero in on Viggo Bjorck as one of the most intriguing names in this year's class, sharing why they're both high on the Swedish forward and debating how the Flames could find a way to land him. The guys weigh Bjorck against other top prospects, revisit what they've heard from draft insiders, and discuss the different scenarios in play at sixth overall and beyond. (55:33) Later, Jonathan Davis from NHL Network joins Flames Talk to break down a busy stretch of NHL news, including the Leafs hiring Jim Hiller, the evolving coaching situation in Vegas and Edmonton, and what could be ahead for teams like Seattle and Vancouver. The conversation also touches on Rasmus Andersson's future, injury storylines in Vegas, and more from around the league as the offseason begins to take shape. Hour two of the Big Show with George Rusic and Matt Rose is on demand! (21:08) Later, senior columnist and analyst for Sportsnet, Eric Francis joins the show to discuss the end of the Stanley Cup Finals! Eric discusses how the Hurricanes were able to win this series in six games, how Rasmus Andersson preformed during the finals and if he could get a contract extension, and if John Tortorella could sign in Edmonton if they don't hire Mike Babcock!
We got the third hour started with Mr Mikes Kind of Easy Trivia. It was then time for Three Questions Too Many presented by Park Mazda. ESPN's Greg Wyshynski closed out today's program to help us put a bow on a historic NHL season. We jump right into how the Carolina Hurricanes finally broke through the wall to capture the Stanley Cup, highlighting the sheer brilliance of the Taylor Hall-Logan Stankoven-Jackson Blake line that completely carried the offense in the postseason. Then, we flip to the losing side of the coin: what is the immediate fallout in Sin City for the Vegas Golden Knights under John Tortorella, and what do they do with massive pieces like Tomas Hertl and Rasmus Andersson? Plus, Wyshynski drops major updates on the Mike Babcock investigation in Edmonton and whether the smoke is clearing on the Darnell Nurse trade market. To wrap, we look at the latest off-season whispers circulating around the league—including a potential blockbuster rumor surrounding Connor Hellebuyck. We finished the show like we always do with The Wrap from William Huff.
On hour one of Flames Talk, Pat Steinberg is joined by NHL Central Scouting Director Dan Marr with the 2026 NHL Draft just over a week away. Dan outlines what the final stretch looks like for Central Scouting after their rankings are released, how their evaluations evolve right up to draft day, his personal evaluations of some of the top prospects, and what teams are still working to finalize before selections are made. (28:58) Pat and Logan Gordon breaks down the now-resolved conditions tied to the Rasmus Andersson trade, as Vegas falling short of the Stanley Cup locks in Calgary's return. Pat walks through the details of the conditional picks, why the Flames still came out strong in the deal, and how Andersson performed with the Golden Knights — including a closer look at his playoff results and what his future could hold heading into free agency, before opening the textline. (25:16) As we move closer to July 1st, Pat and Eric talk about the different ways the Flames can improve their roster either through the draft or making a big splash in the trade market, looking at names like Connor Geekie, Mason McTavish, and Shane Wright and if making moves for one of the young centers would actually make sense for the Flames. On Talkin' Hockey, we're all about the long weekends, and so of course we're here today, albeit in pre-recorded form! We've talked about both the opponents that they faced in the finals during their back to back Cup runs, so today we're talkin' Penguins! The 1991-92 squad had a bit of a roller coaster season before settling in to take Lord Stanley for the second straight year. Their coach, the legendary "Badger" Bob Johnson had to step down in the off-season when he was diagnosed with cancer, and sadly he passed away in November of 1991. The team was sold, also in November, to a couple of fellas from the Minnesota North Stars ownership group that they had vanquished the year before - a guess if you can't beat 'em, you buy 'em! On the ice, it was the usual cast of characters - Lemieux, Stevens, Francis, Jagr, and Mullen, plus steady Tom Barrasso between the pipes and a blue line featuring Paul Coffey and newcomer Larry Murphy. Ol' Paul got shipped out in February shakeup alongside Mark Recchi that steadied the squad, adding toughness with Rick Tocchet and Kjell Samuelsson coming in. They finished strong and blew through the playoffs, sweeping the Blackhawks in the finals.Speaking of playoffs, we'll catch you up on the current goings on as 3 of our 4 semi-finalists are set, with a big game 7 between Montreal and Buffalo set to go as we exit the airwaves today. Colorado and Vegas carry on the proud Jagr tradition this year, as both Brett Kulak and Rasmus Andersson played with the mulleted magician meaning that this is year marks the 46th (!!!) straight that the finals will feature a former teammate of ol' #68.Finally, co-host Tom slips into Mats Sundin's silky Swedish slacks and we break down the myriad of questions facing the Maple Leafs this off season.

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett dive into the early struggles of Rasmus Andersson since his move from the Calgary Flames to the Vegas Golden Knights. Andersson was the first of three Flames veterans moved this season when Calgary dealt the 29-year-old defenceman to Vegas in mid-January in exchange for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, a conditional 2027 first-round pick and a conditional 2028 second-round pick. At the time the deal looked like it could benefit both sides, with Calgary adding assets for the future while Vegas aimed to strengthen its blue line. But through his first stretch with the Golden Knights, Andersson has struggled to find his footing and hasn't meshed cleanly with different defensive partners, while Vegas itself hasn't looked nearly as sharp. The guys debate what's really going wrong and whether this is just an adjustment period or a bigger issue for both Andersson and the Golden Knights.Video Link: https://youtu.be/dVVuZaz3W08#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #vegasgoldenknights #vegas CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8

Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon on the Golden Knights' managerial approach, Mitch Marner's season and Rasmus Andersson joining the team.
Vegas Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon in conversation! A busy few days of trades saw Vegas land Rasmus Andersson from Calgary after extension issues steered the deal away from Boston, continuing the Golden Knights tradition of bold swings. Vancouver moved Kiefer Sherwood to San Jose for draft picks and depth, giving the Canucks five picks in the top 50, while the Sharks add energy and puck retrieval. In New York, Chris Drury told Rangers fans the plan is to re-tool, not rebuild, but trade protection for Panarin, Zibanejad, and Miller complicates matters, and Panarin appears unlikely to return on a new deal. Matthew Tkachuk had a wild first game back, highlighted by a heavy hit and a rare Bobrovsky versus Nedeljkovic goalie fight, while Florida faces a playoff squeeze without Barkov for the rest of the regular season. Then, Kelly McCrimmon joins the show to discuss the return the Flames got for Andersson, the impact that injuries have had on their season, the importance of Mark Stone, and the coming circus around Mitch Marner’s return to Toronto.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The New York Rangers’ problems deepened with an 8–4 loss to Ottawa, their fifth straight defeat and 30 goals against, with J.T. Miller carefully noting the Sens were “more ready to play.” Injuries to Igor Shesterkin and Adam Fox don’t mask bigger issues — the team lacks speed, the defence isn’t good enough, draft capital is thin. Restless fans at MSG are surely being heard by owner James Dolan, with Artemi Panarin’s expiring deal looming large. In New Jersey, Tom Fitzgerald owned the Devils’ struggles before an OT win over Seattle, a small but possible wake-up call as trade speculation around Dougie Hamilton continues. Buffalo stayed scorching hot, winning for the 14th time in 16 games while raising questions about Alex Tuch’s future and highlighting ongoing goaltending issues for the Philadelphia Flyers. Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames appear headed toward a rebuild, with trade chatter surrounding Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri, and Blake Coleman, and a growing need to prioritize future returns. Then, in Ask Ray & Dregs Anything... commish for a day, what else do broadcasters do while they're watching the game and colleagues on a desert island. Tough choices will be made!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
