Today, on Karl and Crew, we discussed the dangers of idolization and how, as followers of Christ, we should be willing to sacrifice our riches for the Lord. We had Brant Hansen join us to talk about the importance of being unoffendable when sharing the gospel and releasing anger when offended. Brant is a bestselling author and syndicated radio host. He is also an advocate for healing kids through CURE International Children’s Hospitals, a pediatric surgical network. He also has a podcast called The Brant and Sherri Oddcast. He has also authored several books, including “The (Young) Men We Need: God’s Purpose for Every Guy and How You Can Live It Out.” Then we had Rob West join us to discuss the danger of idols in our lives and the importance of surrendering it all to God. Rob is the host of the nationally syndicated radio program Faith and Finance LIVE, which airs weekday afternoons at 3 pm on 90.1FM. He is also the host of the Faith and Finance podcast and the FaithFi App. He is also the CEO of Kingdom Advisors, a community of financial professionals specializing in delivering biblically wise financial advice. Rob’s latest book is a 21-day devotional called “Look at the Sparrows.” We then turned to the phone lines to ask our listeners to share a time when God moved them from being driven by money to godly contentment. After the loss at Kent State, the Seahawks returned home with a gritty, culture win over USC Upstate! With ECU coming to town on Tuesday night, we Jordan Riley's importance for the Pirates, as well as Gio Emejuru's dominant post play. How big of a role will foul trouble play in this one, and will the Hawks need to go small?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; Charles Dickens wrote that about UNCW's performance at Kent State, supposedly. Uncle Bill and Brant are on this mic this week for a nuanced discussion of the Seahawks' loss in Ohio on Monday night, which saw UNCW fall behind by 22 points before getting things in gear and fighting back. After a no-good, very bad start, there was A LOT to like about what we saw from the mildly shorthanded Seahawks, including strong outings from Pat Wessler and Nolan Hodge, Greedy Williams' asserting himself at a critical point, and the Hawks' fortitude to fight back against a REALLY good opponent. Then, a look ahead to Saturday night's matchup with an uptempo squad from USC Upstate, led by Karmani Gregory and Carmelo Adkins. Will this one be a little easier, or similar to last year's battle in Spartanburg?

In this deep, mythic conversation, we welcome Brant Elwood, author of Gods, Heroes and Groups: Relational Dynamics through Mythic Archetypes and an MA in social-organizational psychology. Brant blends mythopoetic lineage with practical organizational insight to reveal the unconscious dynamics that govern how groups behave — in communities, workplaces, and treatment settings. We explore: How mythic archetypes (gods, heroes, tricksters) show up in group roles and organizational life Rites of passage work with young men during the pandemic and what that revealed about leadership, belonging, and responsibility The group unconscious — patterns we enact without awareness and how they shape decision-making, conflict, and culture Practical ways leaders and community members can be mindful of their roles so they don't unconsciously repeat damaging patterns Why integrating mythic thinking helps organizations surface the undiscussed and rediscover healthier relational dynamics This episode is for leaders, therapists, organizational consultants, and anyone curious about the hidden stories that run our groups. Brant's approach offers a poetic but practical map for recognizing the forces that shape group life — and for acting with conscious intention instead of falling into unconscious roles. On Halloween night 2004, roommates Adriane Insogna, Leslie Mazzara and Lauren Meanza handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. The three women settled in for bed around 10:30 PM anticipating a typical start to their work week the next morning. Lauren was awoken out of a deep sleep at 2:00 a.m. when her dog started barking. Moments later, she heard a blood-curdling scream coming from upstairs. She tried to call for help but there was no dial tone. Lauren managed to get outside of the house and hide in a row of bushes as she heard the sound of someone scampering away from the home and into the darkness. Lauren went back inside to find her two friends, Adriane and Leslie, lying unresponsive in pools of blood. Investigators got to work trying to find the person who broke into the home at 2631 Dorset Street in the middle of the night and murdered two women, but they set out on the wrong track from the onset. Adriane and Leslie's killer walked among them for over a year undiscovered. When authorities finally did uncover the killer's identity, they learned his motive was connected to a love interest …but not one involving either of his victims. Although the timing of the grisly crimes was uncanny, the double-homicide had nothing to do with Halloween. In our journey through Ecclesiastes, we're confronted with the stark reality of life's challenges and the seeming futility of our pursuits. The teacher reminds us that without God, our efforts are merely 'chasing after the wind.' But amidst this sobering message, we find a powerful truth: we're not meant to face life alone. The passage emphasizes that 'two are better than one,' highlighting the importance of community in our faith walk. This echoes throughout Scripture, with the concept of 'one another' appearing over 75 times. As we reflect on this, let's consider how we can deepen our connections within our church family, supporting each other through life's trials. Are we truly living out the radically social nature of Christianity, or are we trying to navigate our faith in isolation?

YOU DON'T KNOW MOJACK is a podcast dedicated to exploring the entire SST catalogue, in order, from start to finish. During the podcast we will discuss all the releases that are part of our core DNA, as well as many lesser-known releases that deserve a second chance, or releases that we are discovering for the very first time (we actually don't know Mojack!). First and foremost we are fans, and acknowledge that we are not perfect and don't know everything – sometimes the discussion is more about a time, place, feeling, personal experience or random tangents, and less about the facts (but we will try to get to the facts too). In this episode, Michael Pinter chats with Houston-based investor Brant Phillips, who went from broke and burned-out at his 9-to-5 to becoming a seasoned real estate investor, builder, and mentor with nearly two decades in the game.
Four months have passed since a jury acquitted Karen Read for the murder of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. Some involved in the three-year saga have seen their reputations permanently tarnished. Others are riding the case's notoriety to newfound fame and monetary rewards. The obvious question remains: if Karen Read didn't kill John O'Keefe, who did? Scrutiny has swung from the accused to the accusers: the Canton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Norfolk County District Attorney's Office. As for Karen, there's no indication she plans to leave the spotlight. A movie is in the works. So is a tell-all book. Then again, so is a civil trial in which she stands to lose tens of thousands in future proceeds. For John's loved ones and many others, the drama is far from over—it's just entered a new, equally contentious chapter.
