Episode 341 - Catching Up with Anne Becerra and Treadwell Park Happy Monday, Thieves! We're not quite there, but as the world opens up we've been pining for a properly poured draft beer, the sound of conversation around us, the wafting aromas of buttered popcorn. So, we've invited Anne Becerra onto the show. You'll remember that she practically runs Treadwell Park, our old recording stomping grounds. She's always been excellent for insight on beer and breweries, but also the service side of things. As a combination of COVID-19, bad customers, and the economy have danced a rough tango over the hospitality industry. Anne has seen it all and has thoughts on the current state of things and an appeal for kindness. She's not drinking out of the black glasses, but Augie and John had a good go with things as Justin again picked some gems from the world's most wonderful bodega.Listen in, support your local businesses and tip well.***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com. Episode 337 - James Queally, author and reporter, is back Happy Monday, Thieves! We're talking to our friend James Queally, an investigative reporter for the LA Times and the author of the upcoming mystery novel, All These Ashes. If his name sounds familiar, that's because he's been on the show before. In fact, he was our last in-person recording back in the before times when we hung out and recorded in-person at Treadwell Park. In the interim 18 months, James has written a new book and he joins us to about that and what else he's been up do while quarantining in LA. Episode 300 - Vinnie Cilurzo, Russian River Brewing Co. We made it, Thieves! This week marks a milestone on the show. We've achieved the 300 episode mark. For the last 100x3 weeks we've come to you Monday at 5pm. Some shows have been better than others, many were at Barcade Jersey City or Treadwell Park in Manhattan. Sometimes we took it on the road to Boston, or Philly, or Atlantic Highlands, NJ. More than once we had Chief, Evan Watson, and our friends stop by to pour beer into the black glass. It got nutty sometimes. To mark this significant number of shows we called out to California and asked Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River to finally give us the recipe for Pliny the Elder. He did not disappoint. Over the course of this very very very long episode he tastes along with us (Casse was in charge of both beer selection and FedEx. Well done, young man) in the black glasses and shares stories about his first ever canned beer, his relationship with Sierra Nevada and what Younger Day will look like for 2021. We've made it this far because of you, so thanks for all the support and conversation. Looking forward to 300 more. Cheers!Augie, John, Justin, and Casse***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com. Episode 262 - James Queally, LA Times journalist and author Happy Monday, Thieves! Don't adjust your radio. This week we're at Treadwell Park. Right before the closures started to happen and bars were closed in March we gathered at our usual hangout for a regular episode. Then the world changed so we moved our focus to the phone shows. But we didn't want this to sit on the shelf for too long. So, here's James Queally, who was just starting his (now currently on haitus) book tour for his debut novel "Line of Sight." He's a crime reporter for the Los Angeles Times but was born in New York and cut his teeth as a scribe for the Star-Ledger of Newark. That's where he met Holl. Queally is a shit talking raconteur and his book is getting all the praise it deserves. “LINE OF SIGHT signals the start of a great career. Veteran journalist James Queally brings all his insider knowledge of the intersections of crime and police and politics and media in a story that never stands still for a single page. It’s an amazing first novel.”―Michael Connelly, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Harry Bosch seriesAugie even jumped in with his own review, despite not having read the book. It's worth the listen. Holl has read the book and can't recommend it enough. If you're from Jersey, you'll appreciate the attention to detail. If you like suspense, you're in for a good ride. It's available where books are sold (or downloaded) and we encourage you to get a copy today. Meanwhile, Queally went back to his roots for the beers in the black glass and we had some fun teasing out the flavors. Here's hoping we get back to the regular setting soon, but for now we hope you enjoy this throwback to simpler times. Next week, we're back to phone shows and have a bunch of great guests lined up. Now on to today’s show…You don't often get to meet you internet heroes. But today, SaisonSlayer69, former head brewer Cabarrus Brewing (North Carolina) and blogger at gutterboyforever.com sits down at the back table of Treadwell Park for a conversation. You might also know him as C.T. McGaha and he is a representative for Kellogg Selections, a Charlotte-based wine distributor. He used to brew beer at Cabarrus Brewing, and he says he may work in beer again. In his bio that he sent to Justin, McGaha professed a love for Riesling and pizza. Zac was a brewer at Kent Falls for several years before moving to Virginia to head the barrel program at Aslin Beer Co. He talks about the expansion into new markets and geeks out with us on proper service, serving temperature, and glassware. These are all things that don't get address enough so it's great to hear his opinion on it.Then, of course, we talk cask ale. Proper cask ale. Episode 221 - Ulrike Genz & Andreas Martin, Schneeeule Brauerei Summer is in full swing so we need a beer that is both refreshing and up to the task of keeping us hydrated and interested glass after glass. Thankfully we have two guests who can help with all that. Ulrike Genz and Andreas Martin of Berlin's Schneeeule Braueri stop by the back room of Treadwell Park downtown to talk about the real Berliner Weisse. It's a lively conversation that touches on tradition, location, ingredients, and, of course, woodruff syrup. Located in Berlin, Germany, Schneeeule (Pronounced: "schnee oy-la" ) is the only brewery in the world currently specializing in the production of traditional Berliner Weisse.
