Send us a textIn this episode of Brewstilled, I'll be recapping the finale of HBO's The White Lotus season 3. For the finale, it was wild, unpredictable and tragic. It contained developments that were definitely a surprise as all of the story arcs ended. Amongst the characters there were the winners and the losers. We also got a major twist that showed that everyone can be bought at the right price. I'll be discussing this and more here on Brewstilled with an innovative Berliner Weisse from Parish Brewing as the beer pairing.

S5-E16, Grab your favorite pint glass and join Rick and me as we embark on a craft beer adventure, where we'll explore the unexpectedly delightful collision of sweet and sour tastes from North Carolina's prized breweries. Our candid exchanges and laughter fuel a session that's not just about the beer but the stories behind them. As Billy takes a day off, we take this opportunity to indulge in Divine Barrel Brewing's Berliner Weisse and Hot Fly Brewing Company's blueberry cheesecake beer, while weaving in tales of pranks that never came to fruition—think tuna fish jokes, but we keep it all clean for your ears.Around the campfire, Dutch oven cooking transforms into an art form, and we're no strangers to its magic. Whether we're chatting about the golden crisped perfection of a cowboy casserole or the joy found in tweaking recipes to suit our campsite cravings, we're sharing tips and stories that will inspire your next outdoor meal. It's not just about the food, though; it's about the experiences that come with gathering around a warm fire under the stars, cheddar bay biscuits in hand, and the camaraderie that makes it all worthwhile. Finally, we're taking a nostalgic road trip through the twists and turns of technological evolution, from remote controls and Blockbuster nights to the digital era's streaming services. Craft beer is always on fire for April Fools.  I have to admit, not a fan.  But Brian is, so he made a Twitter thread with as many as he could find.  Ham beer, dried beer, exxxtra long cans.  But then you have the ones that are supposed to be jokes, but actually exist.  Pickle beer and cucumber Kolsch?  Come on, Y'all gotta give it more than that.It was a spicy week for Bud Light after their partnership with a trans rights activist.  Kid Rock broke out the guns and a lot of folks dumped their Bud for Coors Light, which probably didn't work out as well as they thought. We reminisce about last weekend and our first trip to a biergarten Kolsch service at Halfway Crooks.  If you've never been to a good Kolsch service, you should change that.Guinness is making big moves.  Baltimore brewery is closing, and Chicago brewery is coming soon.  Sounds expensive.  But NA is doing OK.  Our friends at Athletic Brewing continue to grow and are on track to be a Top 15 brewery. Is it beer healthy?  That's one of those questions that will always be debated.  We talk about a couple articles with conflicting opinions.  And I'm sure we'll have more opportunity to do the same in the future. All this beer drinking and so little recycling.  Turns out many beer labels make cans un-recyclable.  How do we fix this one? We'll be back in the studio next week for our final radio broadcast then it's off to Little Beer Fest for a remote broadcast before we go podcast only.  It's gonna be a busy few weeks over here. Thanks for listening to Beer Guys Radio! 252: 10 Barrel's Tonya Cornett Takes a Layered Approach to Fruited Sour Beer

Tonya Cornett marks her brewing experience in decades, but the head of R&D for Bend, Oregon's 10 Barrel (https://10barrel.com) isn't resting on any laurels. She's earned every right to cruise, with many GABF and World Beer Cup medals under her belt (including three at the World Beer Cup earlier this year), but she continues to challenge herself and her team to find new and better ways to express flavor in beer. One of her favorite styles, and one she's earned wide acclaim for, is quick-soured fruit beer. 10 Barrel now sells these beers across the country under their “Crush” brand, and Cornett's small brewery and R&D team are constantly working ahead, creating new iterations with different fruits and ingredients for 10 Barrel's pubs in Bend. In this episode, she discusses the ways she's made this “simple” style much more difficult to make, from varying grain bills based on the fruit, to using different yeasts, and including one fruit in multiple forms to capture all of its flavor. Along the way, she covers: the change over time in their lacto culture brewing quick-soured beers in two stages as blender batches using wheat, oats, and dextrin malt to build mouthfeel and keep the beers from drying out varying pitch rate based on the current state of the culture and production calendar carefully measuring total acidity rather than just pH using hops that complement fruit and acidity managing sulfur production and controlling diacetyl layering purée, freeze-dried fruit, juice, concentrate, extracts, and more to build a whole fruit picture using adjacent fruits as well as spices to amplify the expression of a primary fruit And more. It is no secret that we are big fans of sour beers. There are a multitude of styles including Flanders Red, gose, Berliner Weisse, and lambic to name a few. The sour beer we will be trying today comes from a brewery that not only does a wide array of sours but also does many other tasty beers as well. For this week's show we will be trying the Spicy Pickle Monster from Prairie Artisan Ales. This beer was selected for the show by Keith's wife while they were shopping at Plaza Liquors on his birthday and its combination of flavors is definitely intriguing. This sour ale features lemon, lime, orange, spicy dill pickles and this year also has habaneros to add a little extra spice. What did we think? What do you think?

Lays has now created their own potato Vodka! Eastside Distilling worked with Lays, and the potatoes they make the chips with, to blend with Lay's proprietary potatoes. No Sour Cream and Onion or BBQ flavors here (yet anyway) it's a straight vodka with a crisp, clean finish. https://www.foodandwine.com/news/lays-potato-chip-vodka Now for the second… A Soda Flavored Beer? Yup - it's a thing now… if it wasn't already. Islla Street Brewing has created the side flavored beer - a Berliner Weisse that's bright red, sour, and apparently goes really well with barbacoa tacos.
