Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: In this episode, I talk with Elisa Pulliam about how we can know Jesus better, gain insight and wisdom through believing God's word, and what it truly means to live by faith, Unblinded Faith. Quotables from the episode: “Unblinded Faith is both for those who have never met Jesus before and want to know, who is God and how do you get to know Him, and what is His truth. But I think there's too many of us that as believers that live blinded, we don't see by faith what God has for us. And so, it was kind of a, two pillars, is the best way to describe it.” “I was trying to live out the hope of Christ, the story of Christ, the promises of God, without allowing them to apply to everything I had already been through in my past…” “My life has been built upon the principles of what I call trap and transform. So, trap is ‘take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ' which is 2 Corinthians 10:5 and then transform is Romans 12:2, ‘be transformed by the renewing of your mind.'” “How do we get ourselves into God's Word and have a deeper desire to have a fresh encounter with God every day, not just for the past but for the now and the future?” “I began to realize that the foundational principles of God's sovereignty, His faithfulness, His kindness, His anger, His wrath, all of it, was shaped through the 18 years that we lived at the boarding school and because of that many of the truths that I was drawn to write about had stories that were related to those years where we lived there.” What can a reader expect when she reads this book? “That people would not walk away feeling like they knew me better but that they knew Jesus better.” How is this devotional different from others? “My hope would be that it creates a pattern for women to end Unblinded Faith and say, hey, I can continue to do this on my own in the Word. And at the same time, it provides a tool for when they're feeling flat, and distant from God and they feel lost, they can pull it out and say I'm going to go through this again and she what God has for me next time” “You don't get spiritually connected to God if you don't connect with God” “I would like to see women walk away and realize that they've seen Him move in their life in a new way that they wouldn't have seen, because they weren't previously looking.” Scripture Referenced: 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” Romans 12:2 “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Recommended Resources: Unblinded Faith: Gaining Spiritual Insight Through Believing God's Word by Elisa Pulliam Impact Together: Biblical Mentoring Simplified by Elisa Pulliam Brave Together: Devoted to God and Each Other by Elisa Pulliam Journey to Freedom: A Bible Study on Identity for Teen Girls by Elisa Pulliam Meet the New You: A 21-Day Plan for Embracing Fresh Attitudes and Focused Habits for Real Life Change by Elisa Pulliam Holy Whole: Guiding You Into Wellness Through Wholehearted Devotion to God by Elisa Pulliam Do You Struggle to Believe God? My Website | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest | Twitter CONNECT WITH LISA… Elisa Pulliam is passionate about inspiring this generation of women to experience a fresh encounter with God for the sake of impacting the next generation. In spite of not growing up in a Christian home, and spending many years in rebellion, Lisa (which is what she prefers to be called and there’s a story about that) came to know Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in the fall of 1993. Ever since the Lord has been in the process of transforming her from the outside in and inside out. It’s this first-hand encounter with God that motivates her to inspire women to pursue God personally and join Him in work in their lives. Soon after launching More to Be, however, Elisa discovered that there was an equally important need to reach women stuck in a rut of poor habits and unhealthy thinking, and began shining the ministry focus towards women seeking spiritual growth and life transformation. She became a certified life coach and later joined Life Breakthrough Academy as a life coach trainer, having no idea at the time that God would use this experience in the writing of Meet the New You: A 21-Day Plan for Embracing Fresh Attitudes and Focused Habits for Real Life Change. Elisa believes each moment of each day belongs to the Lord and strives to be emotionally present and eternally purpose, especially with her husband of 22 years, Stephen, and her four tween through college-age children. Today is all about being encouraged and challenged. Let’s talk about faith. Take your faith from your little corner of being a Christian and then diving into where God is calling you to be. My guest today is Elisa Pulliam, and she is going to help us get there. Elisa Pulliam is a certified life coach, mentor, speaker, and author who is passionate about inspiring women to experience a fresh encounter with God and His Word for the sake of impacting the next generation with Kingdom Hope. Her ministry, More to Be, is devoted to helping women unpack the Scriptures and discover how to join God in His work every day. Elisa and her husband, Stephen, savor life together with their four children. She has a fantastic devotional that is coming out today, so I highly encourage everyone to pick it up right away!
On this episode of the More to Be Podcast, Elisa Pulliam is joined by fellow author and friend, Gwen Smith, for the Unblinded Faith Series, inspired by Elisa's newest devotional book, Unblinded Faith: Gaining Spiritual Sight Through Believing God's Word.Gwen Smith is an author, speaker, worship leader, songwriter and volleyball enthusiast who lives in sunny North Carolina and has been married to her hunky college honey, Brad, for 24 years. They are tired parents to three tall, competitive-sport-playing young people, ages 17-21, who keep them on their toes and on their knees. Her online friends meet at GwenSmith.net to connect and be encouraged, and her goal is to help women know and trust God more. Gwen’s latest book, I Want It ALL, encourages readers to “press on to take possession of God’s promises,” and comes complete with a Bible study guide and questions for reflection. Gwen speaks, leads worship, and eats potato chips at women’s events everywhere, and she is a co-founder of the conference and devotional ministry Girlfriends in God.In this episode, Be Strong and Steadfast, Gwen shares with us how her journey of faith began strong, went off course, and has returned to a full embrace of Jesus and His Word as well as the way prayer can look different for each of us. After considering the story, commands, and promises found Joshua 1:1-9, Gwen describes the rather traumatic fire that burned down her house and God's provisions throughout that trial. She and Elisa round out their chat with an unexpected turn, considering what it looks like to run the spiritual race in spite of opposition and the similarities to what we experience in our earthly bodies, touching upon Galatians 3:3 and Joshua 1:8.Related ContentGet your copy of Unblinded Faith wherever books are sold.
