Followers of Christ are adopted into a bigger family than the one they are born into, and Sarah has experienced this firsthand. She knows the love of both her birth family and her adoptive family. Recently, on Jorie's birthday, they all gathered at a Chicago pizzeria. As Sarah left the celebration, she said to her adoptive mother, “I'm so glad my mom didn't abandon me. She found you, and now my family is even bigger.” God often expands our families in ways we don't expect, providing love and support in unexpected forms. In his episode, we're going to talk about filler words and how to reduce the negative fillers that can be annoying. Fillers come in a few different formats. Some are just sounds. These fillers are the ones that, when we do them, we tend to get more nervous because we think the audience is judging us.These are the ers, the uhms, the youknows, etc. How to stop saying Um is one of the most common public speaking concerns. Um is a filler word. And filler words are a natural part of everyday conversation. A surprising fact, though, is that you'll actually sound strange (or even fake) to your audience if you don't use any filler words.However, there is a negative impact of using too many of these vocal fillers. If um, you say um, too many um, ums in your speech, the repeated use over and over will become a distraction. This excessive use of these filler words has the potential to detract from your message.A funny example of this was in the movie, We're the Millers. Scottie P., the young girl's date, keeps using the phrase, “You know what I'm sayin'” over and over. And, Jason Sudeikis' character calls attention to each of these verbal crutches in a very funny way.The good news about Scottie P. is that what makes this scene really funny is that most people don't use these filler phrases in everyday conversation. They show up more often when we are speaking in front of a group or delivering a formal presentation. If you understand why that happens, you can fix this bad habit very easily.The best speakers in the world have trained themselves, over time, to minimize their use of fillers. (Notice that I said minimize, not eliminate.) Excessive use of um and other filler noises can frustrate the audience and make the speaker less credible. This week, investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke news that a second Jane Doe case had been filed against Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller, accusing him of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student at Cathedral Hall Academy (formerly known as Grand Strand Academy), a school owned JP's father Wayne Miller, who is named as a co-defendant in the case.  In 1999, when JP Miller was 20 years old he allegedly molested the child after inviting her to play piano with him alone in the church sanctuary. The girl told a teacher about what JP allegedly did and instead of the school offering the child help, she was forced to write “I will not lie about JP Miller” 5,000 times.  Mandy and Liz break down the latest allegations against the Millers and share text messages between JP, his ex-wife and Mica from 2022 or before that addresses the child sexual abuse allegations against JP.  Also on the show, part one of the history of the Millers' alleged scheme to use their school as a staging ground for abuse. Betrayal in the Pulpit: The Scandal Surrounding John-Paul Miller  A new lawsuit has been filed against South Carolina pastor John-Paul Miller and his father, Reginald Wayne Miller, accusing them of sexual abuse, predatory conduct, and using their church as a shield for misconduct spanning decades. The allegations have gained renewed attention following the tragic suicide of John-Paul's wife, Mica Miller, last spring. According to the lawsuit, in 1998, when Miller was 19, he allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at All Nations Church, where his father served as pastor. The complaint states that Miller lured the girl into his father's office before taking her outside to his truck, where the assault allegedly took place. Investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke major news this past Tuesday with the announcement that Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at his father's church, Cathedral Baptist Church (formerly All Nations Church), in 1998 and again sexually assaulting her in 2023.  The lawsuit was filed by Jane Doe No. 1 against John-Paul Miller, Reginald Wayne Miller, and their churches, including Solid Rock Ministries. Mandy and Liz share details of the lawsuit while connecting the dots on what was happening in JP's life at the time.  Plus, they sit for an interview with Rock Hill attorney Randy Hood of McGowan, Hood, Felder and Phillips law firm, who is representing Jane, to learn more about Jane's case and what the world of litigating institutional child sexual abuse looks like. Hood is no stranger to suing churches on behalf of sexual assault victims.
