He explains why he moved between sectors—job security, parent access, and career stability—and why Duarte feels like a “small town” community where relationships drive athletics. Skaggs discusses lessons from eight-man football, emphasizing coaching adaptability and culture, and outlines Duarte's multi-sport philosophy and sport offerings, including additions like girls flag football, stunt, and boys volleyball based on student interest. Stepping Into the Bigger World: Isabella on Korea, Marquette, Music, and Choosing Courage | Conversations with a Chiropractor In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier sits down with Isabella, a 17-year-old high school senior in Marquette who was born in Korea and made the life-changing decision to study in the United States as a teenager. Isabella shares what it was like growing up in a small coastal town in South Korea, far from Seoul, surrounded by rice fields, ocean mudflats, and a culture where education shapes almost every part of a student's day. She explains the intensity of Korean school life, from long academic days to after-school private academies, late-night homework, and the pressure many students feel to reach a university in Seoul. Her story shifts when she chooses a very different path. At 14, Isabella asked her parents if she could come to the United States to study, with the hope of attending college here and seeing more of the world. That decision brought her to Marquette, where she found new opportunities through music, school activities, healthcare programs, work, and friendships. Stephanie and Isabella talk about the cultural differences between Korean and American schools, including sports, music, dating, school dances, respect for elders, classroom participation, food, language, and self-expression. Isabella also shares her love of flute, her involvement in band, orchestra, HOSA, health occupations, and her interest in dentistry and orthodontics. At the heart of the conversation is Isabella's message about bravery. She talks honestly about the difficulty of leaving home, learning English, making friends, adapting to a new culture, and growing into a more independent version of herself. Her advice is simple and powerful: step out of your comfort zone, even when it feels uncomfortable, because that is where growth begins. In This Episode, Discover What Isabella's childhood was like in a small coastal town in South Korea How Korean school schedules compare to American high school life The role of after-school academies, known as hagwon, in Korean education Why Isabella chose to study in the United States as a teenager How music helped her find belonging in Marquette Her experience with marching band, jazz band, orchestra, HOSA, and health occupations The cultural differences around dating, school dances, makeup, uniforms, and self-expression How food, language, respect, and family expectations differ between Korea and the United States Why K-pop has helped more people recognize and appreciate Korean culture Isabella's plans for the University of Michigan and her interest in dentistry Her advice for anyone afraid to try something new Stay Connected & Explore Follow Conversations with a Chiropractor on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@ConversationswithaChiro Follow Dr. Stephanie on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wautierwellness Email for show-related inquiries and sponsorships: drstephaniewautier@yahoo.com Want to be a guest on Conversations with a Chiropractor? What if the most powerful thing you could do for your clients isn't to consult or coach them… but to mentor them? We are the ones who guide our clients to achieve their aspirations and become who they are striving to become! We come alongside clients who are in the middle of their heroic journey. So if the client is the hero, then who are we? We are the mentors. We are the guides. We are the Obi-Wans to their Luke Skywalker. Ever since I left Disney to start my own consulting business over 15 years ago, I have been obsessed with the heroic journey. The heroic journey is a framework of transformation that mythologist Joseph Campbell captured…. There's an individual living a normal life who encounters something unexpected that calls them to adventure. They hesitate, and then they meet a wise old man or woman as a mentor. It appealed to me at first because of how it captured what was really behind me leaving my high-profile job at Disney for my own business, which wasn't just a career transition but a total life transformation. My own heroic journey. But then there's another angle that really speaks to me, especially as I pivoted from consulting to the business mentoring I do now, and that's the role of the mentor who shows up at critical moments with a mix of vision for what is possible for the hero or heroine and tough love to step into it. This role is what I see as the true purpose of transformational consultants and coaches… mentor to heroes and heroines on their journey of transformation. We are the Rafiki to Simba. We are the Obi-Wan to Luke. And when I heard people at a local OD networking meeting talking about Yogi Mueller and his book The Great Slapping, I knew I needed to have him on the show. Tune in to fully appreciate and step into the mentor role with your clients. In today's episode, we're getting into: The role of the mentor in the “hero's journey” and how it reframes your work with clients at a deeper level What real mentorship requires: trust, truth, and the willingness to deliver feedback that actually creates transformation The difference between accidental mentors and intentional mentors, and why that distinction matters for your impact How to both become a better mentor and show up as a mentee who actually grows and evolves Chapters: 00:00 – Why Mentorship Is More Powerful Than Coaching 02:05 – Yogi's Journey: Disney, Career Shifts, and Reinvention 10:49 – Building a Business and Finding Your Voice 15:44 – Why Clients Buy You, Not Your Framework 19:08 – Mentorship vs. Transactions: A Different Value Proposition 23:00 – The Meaning Behind The Great Slapping 25:28 – The Mentors Who Shape Us (and Why It Matters) 29:39 – The Hero's Journey and the Role of the Mentor 33:38 – Why Consultants Have Authority Without Position 42:18 – The “Great Slapping”: Tough Feedback That Transforms 47:50 – What Makes a Great Mentee 53:21 – Why You Need a Mentor (Even If You're the Expert) 59:02 – Growth, Blind Spots, and Stepping Into the Mentor Role Next Steps: Get clear on the role you actually play Are you showing up as a consultant, a coach… or a mentor? Define how you guide your clients through their transformation journey so your positioning reflects the real value you bring. Refine your brand positioning to match your impact If your messaging doesn't clearly communicate how you help clients become who they are striving to become, you're leaving opportunity on the table. Your positioning should make it obvious that you are the partner who meets them in the middle of their heroic journey. In this episode, I connect with my dear brother Zarak Fatah for a powerful conversation about what it truly means to heal, evolve, and live wholeheartedly. Together, we explore the quiet trap of endless self-improvement and remember that life itself is the ultimate practice—a living curriculum that invites presence over perfection. Zarak shares the wisdom that emerged from a transformational plant medicine experience, opening a doorway into deeper self-inquiry, integration, and embodied leadership. We dive into the courage it takes to be radically honest in our relationships and how emotional transparency is one of the most profound acts of self-love. We reflect on the ways shame, guilt, and unresolved emotions can weigh on our vitality and longevity—and what becomes possible when we meet them with compassion, breath, and truth. This is a grounded conversation that honors both the mess and the magic of being human. From male vulnerability to the awakening of the feminine, we explore the integration of science, mystery, and consciousness—and how that synthesis returns us to wholeness. This episode is an invitation to embrace life exactly as it is, to listen for the quiet guidance beneath the noise, and to rediscover the essence of love and leadership in every breath. In this solo episode, I take you on a late-night, unfiltered journey of change, courage, & choosing myself—even when it's hard.I recorded this one from my car after going to an open mic alone for the first time in almost seven years. I'm eating Taco Bell, hitting my vape pen, & reflecting on everything that's shifted in my life—divorce, motherhood, personal evolution, & the messy but real work of showing up for myself. This episode is me being honest about what it looks like to step into my own power while navigating uncertainty.Stepping Into the UnknownI talk about showing up alone as a newly single woman & performing at an open mic, even when the room was almost empty. It was nerve-wracking, but liberating. That night reminded me that finding your voice often means being uncomfortable—& leaning into it anyway.Life Updates & FamilyI share what life looks like right now—living with my mom & my kids, helping my family while my mom's husband battles cancer, & juggling all the responsibilities that come with being a mom, daughter, & someone trying to rebuild her own life. It's hard, but it's also shown me how resilient I am.Mental Health & HealingI open up about my mental health journey, including therapy, medication, & learning how to prioritize myself while living with bipolar disorder & anxiety. Healing isn't linear, & I want to normalize that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.Letting Go & Choosing GrowthI talk about reducing my dependency on substances, including cannabis, as part of my personal evolution. These changes didn't come from shame—they came from self-awareness & a desire to show up fully for myself & my kids.Redefining Love & RelationshipsI also touch on my soon-to-be ex-husband & why love alone wasn't enough to sustain our marriage. Choosing my mental health & well-being over expectations wasn't easy, but it was necessary. I hope it encourages you to examine your relationships honestly, too.Finding Joy in the Simple MomentsI share a sweet moment with my kids eating Lunchables in our camper. It's simple, but it felt grounding & joyful—a reminder that stability & happiness aren't about perfection; they're about presence, care, & creating safe spaces for the people we love.Key TakeawaysFrom this episode, I hope you take away that:Growth often starts in discomfortPrioritizing your mental health is essentialLetting go can be an act of loveChoosing yourself doesn't make you selfish—it makes you strongerJoy can be found in the smallest momentsIf you're navigating change, redefining yourself, or learning how to show up fully, this episode is for you.

If you've ever felt silenced, stuck, or scared to share your deepest truths, this episode is your lifeline. I'm diving deep with storytelling expert Katherine Kennedy about the transformative power of speaking your authentic story - and why your voice matters more than you could ever imagine. After last week's vulnerable episode about my own childhood trauma, I knew I needed to bring Katherine onto the show to explore how sharing our stories can heal, connect, and ultimately liberate us. Whether you're navigating midlife, wrestling with past experiences, or simply craving deeper connections, this conversation will inspire you to break your silence and step into your most powerful, unapologetic self. Key Takeaways:Vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness - sharing your authentic story can create deeper connections and personal growth. The "three C's" storytelling framework (Challenge, Choice, Change) can help you process and understand your personal experiences. Many women struggle with people-pleasing and hiding their true feelings, which prevents genuine connection and self-understanding.Writing can be a powerful tool for self-discovery - just 6 minutes of reflective writing each morning can provide significant insights.Speaking your truth isn't about perfection, but about showing your authentic journey and the lessons learned along the way.Midlife offers a unique opportunity to care less about others' opinions and more about personal authenticity and growth.Sharing your story isn't just for you - it can inspire and help others who may be experiencing similar challenges, creating a ripple effect of healing and connection.Katherine Says: You're Not Too F***ing Old! to share what's inside.Learn more about Jen Marples at https://www.jenmarples.comWant to work with Jen? Powin is a leading provider of BESS, w/ 8 GWh of systems built and 9 in the pipeline. As the Trump admin pushes for more drilling and a seemingly anti-clean energy policy (despite that not being the definition of abundance) we are seeing the value of battery storage. Prior to tariffs, building a speaker plant would be more expensive and take longer than building energy storage systems to manage grid flexibility issues. (It's tbd what the situation will be with huge Chinese tariffs). Powin has years of experience working in this space to solve supply chain issues and is always improving its business to adapt to whatever battery chemistry is most feasible and affordable for its clients. Given all this, it was great to speak with someone who can help us understand where the market is going and what the key challenges and opportunities are that lie ahead. Want to access all our content? Episode Summary: Salvation (Pages 379-404)This chapter is about coming home to yourself—liberation, transformation, and stepping into the light of who you truly are. Some days, you may feel deeply connected to your purpose; other days, you may feel lost. This is part of being human. We move through light and shadow, remembering and forgetting, but there is always a way back to yourself. At its core, this chapter explores salvation not as something external, but as an inner transformation. It is the process of shedding fear and illusion, returning to divine truth, and choosing faith over fear, unity over division, and presence over distraction. Peace, freedom, and love are not something we seek—they are something we awaken within. This teaching is an invitation to step into our divinity. We are all part of something bigger, something sacred. This is a path of awakening—discovering who we truly are and the light we are meant to share with the world.Key Themes* Salvation as Inner Transformation – It is not given to us; it is something we embody and live.* Deliverance is an Inner Process – Releasing false narratives, choosing faith over fear, and stepping into spiritual truth.* Returning to Divine Truth – Aligning with wisdom, presence, and love instead of illusion and distraction.* We Are the Bridge – We are here to carry the Light and be part of the awakening of conscious life. The Path of Deliverance* Deliverance is not about being rescued—it is a shift in perception and awareness.* It is about releasing limitations, false identities, and attachments that keep us bound.* We are called to use discernment—choosing what we align with and how we walk this path.* “You are here to make choices as the Divine human, not the human human any longer.”The Burden is Resistance, Not Life* Life itself is not a burden—it is resistance to our true selves that creates suffering.* The book reminds us: “When you free yourself to be as you are, and free others to be who they are, it suddenly becomes easy to love, to trust, and to release doubt.”* The greatest transformation happens when we surrender the need for control and comparison.A Time of Awakening & Accountability* We are moving into an Era of Consciousness—one of transparency, truth, and co-creation.* We are accountable for the seeds we sow, whether in love or fear.* “You are all accountable for your share of the peace, or your share of the burden, in ways you did not have to be accountable for before.”* The Earth is part of this balance. “Cease and desist from your slow crucifixion of Gaia.”Stepping Into the Light* We are being asked: “Will you be God's dream, a conscious dreamer? Or will you be God's nightmare, twisted in the dreaming?”* This is a moment of choice—one that calls us into presence, connection, and kindness.* The invitation is to live in alignment with divine truth, embodying love and peace in our daily lives. You Are the Ninth Transmission* The Freedom Transmissions are structured in three sacred Braids—Life, Death, and Resurrection.* The final strand is you. You are the completion of the teaching.* “The ninth transmission is not something you receive—it is something you live.”* Your choices, your presence, your love are what weave a new world of wisdom and light.Key Takeaways* We are the living transmission. It is through our actions and alignment that we bring the Light into the world.* Surrender, willingness, and curiosity are all that is required.* This is Revelation. The unseen becomes seen through how we live, love, and serve.Next Steps: Read & Listen

Navigating Empty Nesting & Embracing the "Free Bird" Mindset with Maile Mock

In this episode, I sat down with my friend and luxury real estate expert Maile Mock to dive deep into the emotional journey of empty nesting - but with a powerful reframe. Instead of viewing it as an "empty nest," we explored the concept of becoming "free birds" and embracing this next chapter of life with excitement and possibility. Maile and I got real about why having our kids leave feels like losing a limb (because it kind of is!) and how the transition evolves from those raw early days of missing them desperately to finding a new rhythm and reconnecting with ourselves. The beauty of my conversation with Maile is that we're both in it right now!We also tackled the practical side of empty nesting, particularly around housing decisions and partnerships. Through Maile's expertise in real estate, we discussed how couples can navigate different visions for their next chapter - whether that's downsizing, moving to the city, or finding that perfect lock-and-leave property that supports a more adventurous lifestyle. I loved exploring how we Gen Xers are rewriting the rules of midlife, with most of us viewing this as a time to start new ventures rather than winding down into traditional retirement. The key takeaway? It's time to give ourselves permission to dream big and explore possibilities we might have put on hold while raising our families. As Maile perfectly summed up - 50 is the new 30, and we have so much life ahead of us to create, grow, and embrace our free bird status.Key Takeaways:1. Empty Nesting is Hard - And That's OK2. The Free Bird Mindset is Game-Changing3. Dream Big But Try Before You Buy4. 50 is the New 30 - Forget Traditional Retirement5.
