What does racism look like? Japanese Americans herded into internment camps? Racial slurs and verbal mistreatment? Or is it something more personal? How should you act when you encounter it? Today, we'll listen to people who have been on both sides of prejudice and discover ways to deal with injustice. George Aki 5:32 - 20:46 (performed by Al Aki) Dirke and Lorna Johnson 24:25 - 32:01 Gwen Smith 38:03 - 40:31
Gwen Smith is Allergic Living's co-founder and editor, and knows the realities of life with food allergies as she is allergic to soy, shellfish, and peanuts. Gwen developed these food allergies as an adult, but she was the kid with the bad tummy and a disdain for these foods. The allergies developed into adult-onset anaphylaxis. She shares her food allergy journey and the difficulty identifying and determining her allergens. She speaks about her decision to create a publication specifically about allergies and the work and role of an editor. Gwen offers advice for burgeoning journalists. And she provides advice for adults that suspect they may be developing a food allergy.
Season 3 is here! In this episode, Erica and Genevieve discuss the practice of moving beyond self protection and defensiveness into feeling what we need to feel in any given moment. Shame, blame, judgement, and criticism are all about protection, whether we are protecting ourselves or someone else. This episode is packed with personal healing stories and directions for facing, rather than avoiding, our own feelings. Listen, subscribe, and leave a review on iTunes. Food Allergy Awareness Month Epsiode If you were to look at a group of people would you be able to point out the ones who have food allergies or celiac disease? Probably not. They don't look different from others standing next to them. This is great on one hand, but also a serious challenge on the other. Food allergies and celiac disease are serious INVISIBLE medical conditions that millions of people live with every day, including Gwen Smith. These medical conditions can be life-threatening, make it hard to be active, socialize, and live full and good lives, especially when there is food around. What you don't see nor does the person standing next them is the extreme diligence that goes into staying healthy and safe every single day. Listen as Tracy chats with Gwen, editor and content chief of Allergicliving.com, who is an experienced journalist with severe food allergies, about why is it so important to you to make food allergies and celiac disease more visible. This is WEEK 5 of our summer series The Roaring Summer of ‘21 Series: The Best of the Best! We have gone back thru all 5 of our seasons and come up with 10 episodes that have been our most listened too and will be airing those episodes over the next 10 weeks. Today is our 6th most popular podcast, and originally aired just last year in October, 2021 - Belovedness: The Core Truth that Changes Everything. SHOW NOTES Today's Verse's: Mark 1:9-11 (NIV) Friends, the message of this podcast is a game changer. It's that profound and it's that simple. I've spent years of my life and ministry trying to wrap my head and heart around what I'm talking with you about this week in this particular podcast. For sure, if you listen to one podcast this week—let this ONE be it! Share it with some friends and try to listen to it with your spouse, family, or friends. I'm going to send the link to some specific men and women that I, myself, have been on the journey of understanding the profound truth of what it means to call oneself, the Beloved of God. Three years ago, our Board of Potter's inn mandated Gwen and I to capture the key message—the essence of the ministry of Potter's Inn. They asked us to take the time to record these messages so that the message might outlive us. This one message would be what I can honestly tell you is THE message that has altered so many lives in our work around the world. We hope that you'll be greatly blessed and encouraged by this. Goodness…what days these are—that we simply need the good news! This, dear friends is the good news we can savor! It is with this great and profound seriousness—that we send you this week's podcast! This is the final episode in our summer series exploring The Joys and Challenges of Every Stage of Raising our Sons. And this is one of my very favorite stages to talk about (maybe because two of my sons are in it now!) No matter the age of your son(s), I think you’ll be encouraged and inspired by this conversation! Author, podcaster, speaker, and musician, Gwen Smith, joins me to talk about preparing ourselves, and our boys, for the day they launch into independence – whether that is college, the military, or the workplace. Gwen has two sons (and a daughter) who are in or recently graduated from college, and her perspective is incredibly insightful! We cover everything from all of those high school “lasts” (have the tissues handy,) to coaching our kids (from a distance) as they deal with life challenges, spiritual questions, dating, and more. Gwen and I both love our relationship with our college-age kids so much, and we wish that for everyone! Even if your kids are young, I think you’ll get a lot out of this episode. Also: The grandmas are right when they tell us: Blink, and your kids will be there, too! Find show notes at: www.monicaswanson.com/podcast this episode: www.monicaswanson.com/episode-71

For as many as 1 in 4 women in the United States, a past abortion is a secret kept locked away in the hidden recesses of their souls. A secret that quietly eats away at the regretful woman's heart every day. Today's episode of the Purpose in Purity Podcast offers hope to those seeking to overcome the shame and guilt and enter into the peace, grace, and blessed assurance of God's mercy, love, and forgiveness. Today, I'm joined by Gwen Smith, singer, songwriter and author of “Broken into Beautiful.” And we want to thank you for joining us as she shares her testimony of how she found healing after abortion.
As a co-founder of the conference and devotional ministry Girlfriends In God, Gwen Smith has helped thousands of women experience God's word. In addition to her work as a speaker, author, songwriter and worship leader, Gwen has a background as a Division 1 college volleyball player. She shares her fitness story, history of injury and how she has continued to stay active. “We don't get to choose our pain, we get to choose how we respond to it. I have had to process and acknowledge that this is where I am and I have to work within my body and with the injuries I've endured. That way I can make the best choice for fitness in this season.” Learn more about Hello Mornings and explore our resources at HelloMornings.org.
