What is church? Why does it matter? And why are you here? It all comes back to Jesus because our view of Jesus will determine our view of the church. The more clearly we see Jesus, the more clearly we see everything else. In this message, Pastor John Stickl helps us re-focus on who Jesus is and what He's done for us, he gives us a couple definitions of the church, and he reminds us of who we are as Valley Creek Church. The church was, is, and always will be Jesus' idea, so, Jesus, have Your church!

Identity is a HOT TOPIC word in today's culture and we are here to tell you... God created identity and has specific TRUE things to say about you AND your children. We are finishing up our first culture pillar this week with a guest, John Stickl. John Stickl is lead pastor of Valley Creek Church. He is also an author who wrote Follow the Cloud. Most importantly, he is a mighty man of God, a loving husband, and an amazing, intentional father to his two kids. We invited John onto today's podcast because he deeply understands the power of encouragement and how it goes hand in hand with identity. Questions We Discuss: What is Kingdom identity? As parents, do we have authority to tell our kids who they are? How do we get our kids to believe God's identity for their life? If parents would do one thing to help build identity in their kids, what one thing would you challenge them to do? Why is identity especially valuable within family relationships? Mental health is a journey. Just like our physical health, it’s something we have to practice, exercise, and work on. Day by day, little by little, as we partner with God and use the tools He’s provided, we can experience a lifestyle of mental health. In this session, we’ll discover that where the Holy Spirit is, there is freedom. He wants to come and be our guide, counselor, and comforter. He wants to empower us to live a life of victory. God is good, Jesus has forgiven you, you are loved, and everything is possible – which means in Jesus, mental health is possible for you. When was the last time you just had fun? When was the last time you sang out loud or laughed so hard your stomach hurt? The Bible tells us that a cheerful heart is good medicine – that the kingdom of God belongs to children. And what do children do? They play, have fun, and enjoy life! In this session, we learn that having fun is an essential part of our mental health journey. Sometimes, the greatest thing we can do for our stress or anxiety is just put the phone down, go outside, and enjoy the world God created. The Bible says those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. You see, it’s not always about you or your struggle. You don’t have to wait to be perfect before living out your purpose. One of the reasons Jesus lived mentally free is because He never lost sight of His purpose to serve others. In this session, we discover that one of the greatest things we can do for mental health is to choose to get outside of ourselves and serve someone. What you’re facing is real, and it matters to God. When dealing with mental health challenges, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone and that your struggles are not the end of your story. The enemy wants you to feel powerless. That it’s always going to be this way. God wants you to know that He sees you, He hears you, He is concerned about you, and He has come to set you free. In this session, we’ll remove common misconceptions surrounding mental health and learn to brush our mind of the toxic thoughts that cause us to struggle. Everywhere we go, people are talking about mental health. But what if we’ve gotten the conversation wrong? What if “mental health” is actually a positive thing God designed us to experience? What if true mental health is believing that you are who God says you are, that God is who He says He is, and that you were created for a purpose? We were created to live free, and God has given us the tools to help us on that journey. In this session, you’ll discover that God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Our friends label us. Social media labels us. Other generations label us. And, the world tries to label us, but only Jesus has the authority to say who we are. When the world wants to define us by our struggle, God says, “you are not your anxiety, and you are not your depression; you are my beloved son or daughter." The Gospel is simply the good news that Jesus came, He is love, and He wants to give you back the life you were created for. He wants you to walk in the fullness of His finished work and enjoy true mental health. In this session, we discover that only Jesus can lead us to a life of true mental health. He comes into our life and asks the question, “Do you want to get well – do you actually want to get well?” And if we do, then only He can set us free. Do you ever wonder why you do what you do or think what you think? The truth is your behaviors are a direct result of your beliefs. Whatever beliefs you’re rooted in show up in your life and impact your mental health. Your mind processes more than 12,000 thoughts per day, the majority of which are negative. How you think determines how you live, and it’s impossible to have a healthy life with an unhealthy mind. In this session, we discover that if we want to change the way we live, it starts by changing the way we think. Part of mental health is choosing to renew our mind, and we do that by removing and releasing the lies we believe and replacing them with God’s truth. Download "Remove, Release, Replace" PDF: https://res.cloudinary.com/valley-creek-church/image/upload/v1644943880/VCCResources/20220216-Mental_Health_Session_6_Remove_Release_Replace-Download.pdf Go through the full Mental Health Experience now: https://valleycreek.org/mentalhealth Valley Creek recommends you seek the appropriate professional medical advice and professional therapy support if you are suffering from serious mental health issues. Playlists are powerful. The voice of the world wants to steal, kill, and destroy, but the voice of God wants to give you hope and a future. So, what playlist or voice are you choosing to listen to? The voice of the world or the voice of God? In this session, we discover that when we choose to listen to the voice of God instead of the playlists of the world, He will lead us in love, and we’ll experience true mental health. When we struggle with our thoughts and emotions, we tend to withdraw and pull away. But God created us for relationship. He has given us friends who will ultimately become godly relationships who encourage us and remind us that we’re not alone and that we’re going to be okay. The Bible teaches that when we don’t give thanks, it darkens our mind and confuses our thoughts; we literally can’t see things for what they truly are. Yet when we present our requests to God by prayer, petition, and with thanksgiving, it says the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Jesus. In this session, we learn that prayer and gratitude are an essential part of God’s solution to dealing with mental health challenges. When we choose to thank God for who He is and what He’s doing, our gratitude becomes a weapon that enables us to walk in victory over our circumstances and struggles.
