A binge-free life is created by dismissing one binge urge at a time, and by eating adequately one meal/snack at a time. This requires consistency. Although the decision to stop bingeing can be instantaneous, healing of the body and brain from this habit takes time. If you're someone who tends to do well for a little while just to slip back into old behaviors, or if you want to prevent that from happening, this episode is going to be useful to you. Kathryn and Coach Julie teach you how to make positive change in pivotal moments or “inflection points” in recovery. You'll learn that you don't have to fix every part of your life or every part of your eating. Instead, you can zero in on the times when you are tipping into the problematic behaviors, make some adjustments, and harness your own power of choice. When you recognize and work on your own inflection points, you can avoid going down those familiar but harmful pathways and build new habits. Binge-encouraging thoughts don't make logical sense, but they are tempting to believe in the moment of an urge. You can learn to stop taking these thoughts seriously, dismissing them as untrue and not indicative of who you truly are and what you truly want. It's helpful to know that you aren't the only one having thoughts that try to justify binge eating. In this episode, Kathryn shares several common faulty thoughts (from the lower brain) and explains how you can stop letting these thoughts lead you into harmful actions. Recovery can bring up some unexpected feelings, including grief. Even though binge eating is ultimately a harmful behavior, you may still experience a sense of loss as you let it go, and you may also grieve the time you lost to the eating disorder. As you go through this, it can be helpful to cultivate thoughts and feelings of gratitude to soften the grief, and to keep you moving in the direction of freedom from the struggle with food. Life inevitably involves loss, and some lessons learned from recovery about both grief and gratitude can help you in many other areas as you move forward. You can google Dan Sullivan and his many appearances and coaching business. "Happy Money" by Jason Vitug "The Gap and The Gain" by Dan Sullivan Quote of the show: " Asking the right questions takes as much skill as having the right answers"- Robert HalfThe Collective Challenge: Our collective challenge for this show is to figure out some of your mastery in your innate talents, unlock some new levels, maybe of your confidence and some exploration. Ask five to 10 people across different areas of your to describe you or your impact may be on them. Ask them for five words, and then look for themes in their responses, maybe some patterns. The other thing you can do is make a list of activities where you get into that like flow state or you lose track of time or it doesn't feel like work and look for themes of where you're getting energy and enjoyment. The third thing you can do is identify tangible skills that come really easily for you. And remember, you don't have to love these. They're just skills that you have. Maybe even start like a journal page. Then, fill these skills, words, tasks, or themes over time as you run across them. Ultimately, take a look at all of these strains of genius where you have people's descriptions of you, you have lists of activities where you kind of get lost in you have some of your tangible skills, and take a look at the impact the energy, the skills, and what kind of unique ability, unique themes, tie these together, and then start to brainstorm ways to use these abilities more, maybe through a pivot, volunteering, a passion project, whatever that might be just some sort of discovery is always the first step. And living on purpose is the fun part.Show Notes with Timestamps:00:07 - Introduction by Anna Stumpf and overview of the episode01:21 - Julie Downey shares her background and initial career choices05:09 - The shift from real estate to personal coaching10:42 - Julie discusses the challenges and breakthroughs in her journey16:12 - The evolution of Julie's career and her move towards coaching21:27 - Discovering coaching as a calling through self-awareness exercises26:39 - Julie talks about the impact of coaching and her approach32:28 - Strategies for work-life balance and personal well-being39:09 - Future aspirations and the importance of community and connection44:27 - Mastery and the power of saying no48:01 - Julie's recommendations for personal development and resources
The goal in recovery is to avoid binges, but that usually doesn't happen 100 percent of the time as you are learning to eat normally and dismiss urges to binge. In this episode, Coach Julie and Kathryn talk about how to keep moving forward if you have a binge or multiple binges. If you treat any binge you have as a “learning moment,” you will be able to make necessary adjustments and gain confidence that you can fully let go of the habit. In this episode of the Real Trending podcast, Tracey Velt interviews Julie Harris, co-founder of Tim and Julie Harris Coaching. Harris has deep insights into what agents are struggling with right now (inventory!) and offers solid ways to find more listings. She also explores trends in the industry, such as the value of expanding one's center of influence and emphasizes the importance of focusing on fewer, more meaningful goals and breaking them down into daily and weekly tasks. By whittling down weekly goals and consistently taking proactive actions, agents can make significant progress in their business. Julie shares pivotal moments in her career and offers three to-dos for agents to change their business. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: The lack of inventory is a major challenge for real estate agents, but being proactive and creative in finding inventory can lead to success. Real estate commission lawsuits are causing uncertainty in the industry, but agents can navigate this by being more professional and transparent in their buyer representation. The most successful agents are those who are proactive, stay educated, and focus on expanding their center of influence. Pivotal moments in a real estate career can include making strategic pivots, such as targeting luxury markets or returning to basics that have proven to work in the past. To change their business, agents should focus on generating new business daily, staying educated, and expanding their center of influence. Focus on fewer, more meaningful goals and break them down into daily and weekly tasks. Consistently take proactive actions to make progress in your real estate business. Invest in personal development and maintain a healthy lifestyle for overall success. Whittling down weekly goals helps agents stay focused and avoid overwhelm. Here's a small preview of today's interview. The transcript below has been lightly edited for length and clarity: Tracey Velt: We also have the uncertainty of the commission lawsuits. The Sitzer one has been adjudicated, it's being appealed, but we have a ton of copycat lawsuits all over the country. It's got agents and brokers on edge. How are you coaching through that fear? What are your recommendations for agents and brokers moving forward? Julie Harris: The first thing to remember is that this is not going to make changes overnight. It's unlikely for everyone to wake up and have a completely changed world. That is unlikely. We have to remember that we literally have hundreds of years and millions of transactions and millions of real estate professionals who have done things in a way that made sense for a really long time. And to try and just change that suddenly is highly unlikely. When Sitzer was decided, some of the first calls I had wanted to make sure I had my facts straight. Yes, it's more negotiable, but it has not markedly changed. They have to have more transparency. They're being more careful with their buyers. They're doing a radical thing called a buyer presentation. We're used to listing presentations. All of our coaches have used a buyer presentation since day one. When life is painful, it's common to have thoughts that say, “what's the point of recovering when everything is so terrible?” Seeing suffering in the world might cause you to believe that it makes sense to just stay isolated in the habitual pattern of binge eating. It's so important to realize that recovery does not depend on life being good or on you being happy, and there is absolutely a point of stopping binge eating even on the hardest days. Kathryn and Coach Julie address this topic so that you can gain the courage and strength to keep pursuing recovery during emotionally challenging times.
