After having their faith in all that is good and decent thoroughly shattered by Boku no Pico (and after suffering a monster cold on Cody’s part), Cody and Max decide to bask in memories of some true A-List anime entertainment to remind themselves of why they watch anime in the first place. To do that, the boys of The Other Side take a look at some prime examples of how various things are done; from overall quality, to fighting anime, to comedy. To hammer the point home, they’ll compare these grade-A animes to some true stinkers in their respective ballparks, encompassing their thesis of what makes for good entertainment. It’s like a Do’s and Don’ts column for anime! For objective quality vs. niche appeal, they’ll take a look at Cowboy Bebop vs. Haruhi Suzumiya. To compare over-the-top fighting series, they’ll look at Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure vs. Baki the Grappler. Then they’ll compare the use of the girl who’s “really 1000 years old” by pitting Spice and Wolf against Dance in the Vampire Bund. After that, it’s an examination of the same concept done right vs. done wrong with Tenchi Universe vs. Tenchi Muyo. Finally, capping everything off, it’s explaining the definition of parody with Excel Saga vs. Lucky Star.
While preparing for a future episode, Max and Andrew just randomly decided to watch Dance in the Vampire Bund, for the hell of it. Hearing about this, Cody decided to use their terrible life decision as the premise for an episode of The Other Side! But what seemed like a fun, if filler-y episode turns into an episode for the ages as various topics (not just the show in question) cause Cody to have multiple breakdowns, culminating in a major statement to both anime fans across America, and to FUNimation Entertainment. And it’s all capped off by the wonder that is “Fly Son”.
Burr doesn't like drifting and clickers, but plays GRID 2 and The Last of Us anyway, then turns in his homework with his review of Attack on Titan. Together with Kitsune you'll get a review of Oblivion, the Tom Cruise flick, as well. She also revisits Code Geass and warns us about Dance of the Vampire Bund. Madoka Magica or Hamtaro for anime night? And Cat vs. Fox spreads the love this time. All this and plenty of news on this episode!

Oh hey, I did some another review on Anime 3000. I feel like I've provided more content for that website than I do my own. Well, deal with it. We still have more shows on the way. Just need to organize with other people. Episodes are already planned for up until 90 so it's not like we have nothing. Really, it's that there are so many video games... Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. As the modern vampire haunts cinemas, video games, and graphic novels, the best selling author Charlaine Harris creates within the written page a mind reading woman named Sookie Stackhouse who lives in an alternate yet present day world where vampires, werewolves and witches roam through a land unhidden and unafraid of humans and their superstition. True Blood, HBO’s riveting television series, created by producer Alan Ball takes Charlaine Harris’s stories to the small screen. With its elements of extreme exploitation and violence but having the traits of soap opera and romance, the series has reinvented vampires and the classic monsters once more. Paying homage to 1970’s blood and boobs drive-in fair and the violent yet romantic novels of Anne Rice, True Blood has been so successful that the production of a fifth season has begun. Dark Discussions discusses the success of the show and how it has taken television by storm. But what about less familiar vampire films? Your hosts, Mike and Philip, cite some films and programs that any vampire fan should know about. Mike mentions the Nicholas Cage film Vampire Kiss, the short lived television show Kindred the Embrace, Mario Bava’s classic film Black Sunday, and the Hammer Film Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter. Philip speaks enthusiastically about the movies Vampyres, Daughters of Darkness, and The Blood Spattered Bride, three of the most influential drive in horror vampire films of all time. Also discussed are the two Ingrid Pitt Hammer Films, Countess Dracula and the Vampire Lovers, possibly two of the best takes on the vampire. But what of other media? Two of the better vampire novels Vampyrrhic by Simon Clark and The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon are discussed. Anime has been a staple of the vampire. Such shows as Dance of the Vampire Bund, Blood+, Vampire Hunter D, and Trinity Blood have large audiences. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel brought producer Joss Whedon to stardom. The CW's The Vampire Diaries has been a huge hit. The Vertigo/DC Comics graphic novel Preacher was highly influential and a throwback to the old horror comics of bygone years. Some new vampire films have become available such as the Japanese film Blood starring Aya Sugimoto and the German film We Are the Night. And two upcoming additions to the vampire film are soon to hit the big screen, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows and Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D. Dark Discussions brings to light all these topics and more. Take out your rosary beads and pray that you can finish listening before the night falls. Media Factory has released a promotional trailer for the upcoming Dance in the Vampire Bund anime, based on the manga by Nozomu Tamaki. 4 volumes of the manga have been released in the US by Seven Seas. Animation is being done by SHAFT (can you dig it?), which has had a hand in almost every major anime series to be released here to one degree or another. Akiyuki Shinbo (Devil Hunter Yohko, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Negima) will be directing. While Shinbo can do comedy very well, he should be able to handle the creepy mood and explicitness of this title. The manga is almost a joining together of two of Shinbo's earlier shows, Moonphase and Le Portrait de Petit Cossette in flavor and theme so I think he'll be allright with the subject matter.
