With our last episode recapping MFCA 2025, your hosts—with help from Lou Masses and Dennis Levy—kicked up a bit of a hornet's nest by addressing a major recurring topic of discussion at the show and in our small section of the miniatures world in general: Should digital sculpting and 3D printing be judged differently than the “handmade/toothpick and putty” sculpts that have predominated in this odd art form of ours for the last five and a half decades?Okay, it was mainly Jim doing the kicking. But since he was in part recounting a long and thoughtful conversation in Pennsylvania with master-sculptor Alan Ball, first featured with his master-painter wife Marion on Episode 20 of our podcast, we invited Alan to come back to have the discussion in real time—“for the record,” so to speak, and sans paraphrasing. As always, he graciously and eloquently shared his thoughts and insights as one of the deepest thinkers about this passion we share. Now, when anyone talks about digital sculpting in the historical as opposed to the fantasy category of miniature figures today, the name Nello Rivieccio inevitably comes up. Based near Naples, he is as much of a master on Zbrush as he was for many years with a toothpick (or similar tool) and two-part epoxy putty. To be clear, we do not intend these dual chats as a Pro/Con, Point/Counterpoint pairing: Alan and Nello have as many areas of agreement with each other (and with your hosts) as they do differences. But since the conversation about the advent of digital sculpting is certain to be a major topic of conversation again at World Model Expo, we wanted to drop this epic episode with both of them at the same time, so folks can have their perspectives (and our own) in mind as they view the work on display in Versailles from July 4 to 6.

It's time to revise and expand on a topic that was covered in the series one episode “The Carnival is Over”.  It's the summerof 1970 and England are the reigning World Champions.  The Three Lions are one of the most feared and respected sides in world football.  Some of the stalwarts of 1966 – Gordon Banks, Bobby Moore, Alan Ball, Martin Peters, Geoff Hurst – are regarded as having improved. Sir Alf Ramsey, England's inscrutable manager, has brought in a clutch of new faces – Keith Newton, Brian Labone, Terry Cooper, Alan Mullery, Francis Lee, Colin Bell. England have to cope with the Mexican heat and high altitude. There is also Latin American hostility and conspiracy theories, a hangover from 1966 when England were accused of ‘fixing' the tournament in favour of European teams and against South American teams. A stopover in Colombia goes disastrously wrong when Bobby Moore is arrested after being accused of stealing a bracelet.  England start their campaign with a robust match against Romania.  Then comes the epic, iconic match against Brazil.  It is widely assumed that this will be a dress rehearsal for the final.  England conclude their group programme with a dull game against Czechoslovakia.  After that is the quarter-final against West Germany, another memorable epic where Banks misses out due to food poisoning, but England seem to be cruising to victory at 2-0 before it all goes wrong.Meanwhile back home, Harold Wilson, the Prime Minister, is on the campaign trail, seeking to repeat his own success from 1966 by leading the Labour Party to another general election victory.  After four turbulent years, Labour have move ahead of Edward Heath's Conservative Party in the opinion polls.  However, the World Cup is preying on Wilson's mind.  A populist and a keen football fan, Wilson is taken with a “mystical symbiosis” between the government's fortunes and those of the England team.  He asks his Cabinet colleagues to consider the political ramifications if England were to be knocked out of the World Cup, shortly before polling day.  Wilson's relaxed campaign seems to chime with the public mood.  Labour maintains a consistent lead in the opinion polls, victory seems assured but just four days before the vote, England are knocked out of the World Cup…  TWITTER/X@MatthewOkot@WorldCupRamble Subscribe to World Cup Rambling on your podcast platform.

In episode 15 of (Pop) Cultural Marxism, Ajay, Isi, and Joseph explore vampires in media, across genre and time! Welcoming back Joseph after a few episodes away, the episode kicks off with a games roundtable on Monster Hunter: Wilds (Capcom, 2025) and Pentiment (Obsidian, 2022), among other things. Then the group quickly dives into all things vampire. From Capital to Castelvania, the conversation analyzes the psychosexual, political economic, Orientalist, literary, genre, social, and even epidemiological metaphors, allegories, and tropes that haunt vampire stories and have made the figure of the vampire of such perennial—if shifting—fascination. How have vampire stories changed over time? Why do vampire stories shift and blur genre and valence? Why is the vampire such a perennial stand-in, across so many fields, often at the same time? Objects in consideration include: Carmilla (Sheridan Le Fanu, 1872), Dracula (Bram Stoker, 1897), Interview with the Vampire (novel: Anne Rice, 1976; TV adaptation: Rolin Jones, 2022-present; film: Neil Jordan, 1994), The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches (Anne Rice), Nosferatu (F.W. Munrau, 1922), Nosferatu (Robert Eggers, 2024), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (Ana Lily Amirpour, 2014), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Joss Whedon, 1997-2003), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami, 1997), Castlevania (anime, Warren Ellis, 1997-2021), Castlevania: Nocturne (anime, Clive Bradley, 2023-present), True Blood (TV series, Alan Ball, 2008-2014), The Twilight Saga (films 2008-2012, based on the novels by Stephanie Meyer), Midnight Mass, What We Do In The Shadows, and many more! Discover how the erotic, the economic, the exotic and even the epidemic all collide in the tragedies, comedies, horrors, nightmares, and fantasies that prove the vampire is a potent if changing symbol for fears, desires, and delirium.

Joe Royle – the only living person to achieve legendary status at Everton as both a player and manager (the other being the late, great Howard Kendall) – invites Chris Beesley to his house for a special episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Royle, who grew up in Norris Green, attending Ranworth Square Primary School before going on to Quarry Bank High School where he developed into a talented all-round sportsman, also excelling in the high jump and swimming, became Everton's youngest-ever player at the time when he was controversially picked ahead of ‘The Golden Vision' Alex Young by Harry Catterick to make his debut at Blackpool aged 16 years and 282 days on January 15, 1966, a record that stood for over 42 years until it was eclipsed by Jose Baxter. Although Royle was part of the Blues team that lost 1-0 after extra time to West Bromwich Albion in the 1968 FA Cup final, alongside the ‘Holy Trinity' midfield of Kendall, Colin Harvey and Alan Ball, plus the likes of captain Brian Labone, goalkeeper Gordon West, fellow Scouser Tommy Wright and his good friend John Hurst, he was top scorer in Everton's 1969/70 League Championship-winning side. Once reaching 29 goals in all competitions in 1968/69, by the time Royle's Everton career had finished, he had netted more times for the club (119) than any player since Dixie Dean. Returning to Goodison Park as manager in November 1994 with the team bottom of the Premier League, he saved the Blues from relegation while also becoming the only manager in Everton history to win a trophy in his first season in charge. Some 30 years on, Royle remains the last Everton manager to secure major silverware for the club, while the following campaign (1995/96), he steered them to sixth place, which was their only top-half finish in the first decade of the Premier League. Now 75, he explains how the circumstances behind his departure continue to perplex him but as a True Blue, he was delighted to return to the Goodison hot seat for one last time as caretaker boss alongside his former player David Unsworth against Norwich City in 2016. Discovering SKS and how it helped in train his audition muscle. “And it was so important at that time to learn how to audition, because auditioning is such a strength and a skill in and of itself. Once you're on set, it can feel a lot different. But it was important that we had to figure out how to audition, which is where SKS case came in.” 10:04 At SKS I took away the most important lesson of all, which is to stay positive, to stay hopeful 10:24: You don't rise to the occasion. As Mr Baldwin is clearly one of Woody Allens biggest public supporters and listeners still want to hear our take on this eventful case closure   Moving on from there we pick up with our Ai Podcast assistant's movie choice of the month... that being 1999's American Beauty.   The starring lead in said movie, Kevin Spacey is yet another controversial figure we needed to further discuss, not only in relation to the chosen movie pick but also in terms of his ongoing blacklist backlash causing much discourse in the fiery court of public opinion    There is just soo much to discuss on this episode it surely now becomes one of our longest episodes in our catalogue   We hope you enjoy, please consider leaving a comment using our special link below as well as our other related links below!   In American Beauty (1999) Kevin Spacey stars as Lester Burnham, a disillusioned middle-aged man who has a thankless job and beleives he is trapped in a loveless marriage with his materialistic wife, Carolyn (Annette Bening). As a midlife crisis unfolds, Lester becomes infatuated with their teenage daughter's best friend, Angela (Mena Suvari), which further sparking a desire to reclaim his lost youth and inner happiness.  _________________________________   Please Find Links To The Other Sources / Audio Clips Mentioned in This Episode   Piers Morgain Kevin Spacey Interview: https://youtu.be/qktc4-9mXXc?si=bUJSqVCNgXM4mKog   Alec Baldwin Case Close Breakdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSEa0GiWXYA   Dr Grande On Alec Baldwin Case Close: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xeYO13p3HM   American Beauty: Meaning of Rose Essay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvTwjusPAlM   Kevin Spacey Court of Public Opinion - Piers Aftermath - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWe2PLhvnMU   Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Beauty_(1999_film)   IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169547/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/american_beauty   _________________________________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro

Cheap Heat Productions Podcast

CORE is not your average hard rock band. Formed in 2003, hailing from South Dakota they are sure to be the next big thing to come out of the Midwest. For fans of Coheed & Cambria, Alter Bridge and 10 Years, CORE approach songwriting honestly and are dedicated passionate musicians. This power trio provides a tight rhythm section that produces a brutal sound, balanced by tender yet powerful vocal harmonies reminiscent of Layne Staley. Equal parts heavy riffs and delicate acoustics, CORE's music is emotionally charged and unique. They have opened for popular national acts SHINEDOWN, SEVENDUST, ALTER BRIDGE, CANDLEBOX, BUCKCHERRY, POWERMAN 5000, SALIVA, ORGY, SAUL, VRSTY, TRAPT, RED, SAVING ABEL, POP EVIL, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, EVE TO ADAM, CANDLELIGHT RED, SEBASTIAN BACH, EVAN'S BLUE, NEW MEDICINE, CAVO, DAYS OF THE NEW, SEASON'S AFTER, WES BORELAND (of Limp Bizkit, and Black Light Burns), THE DREAMING, CINDER ROAD, DROPPING DAYLIGHT, & CHRIS VOLZ as well as many others. Fall of 2023 will see the release of new music by CORE who have a devoted national following &are currently in support of their much anticipated 4th Album. "Broken Heart Syndrome (Deluxe Edition)" is an ambitious 21 track double disc offering that was unleashed worldwide on Black Friday 2019. Originally released in 2015, the band wanted to redo the album independently. The result is a blistering 120+ minute rocker featuring the original 11 tracks in a much punchier and in your face mix, as well as acoustic versions of each song stripped naked to their purest form. As of this release, the response has been more than 900,000 YouTube views with almost 20% of those coming from the song "Daydream Junkie" which premiered on June, 15th 2020. In 2018 the band was featured in Amazon best selling book “Underrated Rock Book: The 200 Most Overlooked Albums 1975-2015”. In November 2021, CORE signed a sync licensing representation deal with five time Grammy-nominated producer and music supervisor, Gary Calamar and Laurel Canon Music Licensing. Gary has overseen music on some of the most acclaimed and popular shows on television including “True Blood”, “Six Feet Under”, “Dexter”, “Entourage”, “Weeds”, “House” and “Man In The High Castle” (Amazon). Gary's current projects include “Titans” (HBO Max) and “Three Body Problem” (Netflix) and recently completed “Cobra Kai” (Season 3, Netflix) and “Uncle Frank” (Amazon) written and directed by Alan Ball. Previously, CORE has independently released "St. Judas Day Parade" in July, 2010 which is featured in the aforementioned Amazon best seller. The singles "Hate Me Harder", Dig", "Live Forever" and "You're So Fake" received nationwide airplay on active rock and college radio stations. In 2007, CORE's debut album "We All Fall Down" earned rave reviews from TAXI & cdreview.com, citing the songs "Eisoptrophobia", "Confession", and "Calling John Coffey" as favorites. All albums are available everywhere digital music is streamed and sold. Physical copies available thru coretunes.com.

Last month saw the 60th anniversary of the Everton debut of a genuine Club legend! The Blues were the reigning Champions and were paired with Italian giants Inter Milan in the preliminary round of the European Cup. The first leg at Goodison Park ended in a goalless draw and for the return in the San Siro, manager Harry Catterick handed a first ever senior appearance to 18-year-old Colin Harvey. And the rest, as they say, is history. Colin went on to win the FA Cup in 1966, the League Championship in 1970 and made 388 appearances, scoring 24 goals. After hanging up his boots, Colin turned to coaching and it was his promotion to the First Team from the reserves in 1983 that was one of the catalysts to the greatest period in the Club's history. In this special podcast, we look back over a magnificent Everton career with Dave Prentice and Gavin Buckland joining presenter Darren Griffiths. With audio contributions from John Hurst, Peter Reid, Dave Watson and Danny Cadamarteri, we cover Colin's entire Blues career as a player, youth team coach, first team coach and, of course, manager. Why did he only ever win one international cap? Did he actually want to be the Everton manager when Howard Kendall left in 1987? Was he offloaded as a player too early when he still had much to offer? Colin Harvey has been on a unique Everton journey and it is entirely appropriate that he will forever be outside Goodison Park in solid bronze alongside Howard Kendall and Alan Ball.

Y2K looms large as Overlapping Dialogue concludes our series on the cinema of the 1990s with two satires situated deep in the Clinton years: Election and American Beauty. But before we celebrate the end of an era, we dive into a Blue Plate Special discussion involving our thoughts on some recent theatrical re-releases (American Graffiti and They Live) in the midst of the ongoing Hollywood strikes, puzzle over the impact of the "critical metric" site Rotten Tomatoes, and generally wrestle with the larger legacies left by the films of 1999 while also debating how it stacks up to other heralded movie years. Upon dispensing with the pleasantries, we dive into the muck generated by both of our spotlighted films: listen as we appreciate Alexander Payne and Tom Perrotta's vision of Middle American angst while objecting to the smug aperture through which Sam Mendes and Alan Ball forcefully demand we "look closer." This is one of me and Charles' essential 90s films and it was good to really examine all the aspects we enjoyed as teenagers and cringe at what didn't age well at ALL. We chat about the perfect casting of Wes Bentley, the color red, and the incredible script.Off-topic rants include: Loveline, lusting after Peter Gallagher, Six Feet Under, Charles' college class on natural disasters, and our favorite year in music---Get OVER 80 BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show, join the PATREON for $5 a month! www.patreon.com/fashiongrungeHosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Charles @charleshaslamMusic by Den-Mate @imdenmateFollow Fashion Grunge PodcastInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

Career Q&A with Christopher Meloni. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Variety. Washington, D.C. native Christopher Meloni studied acting at the University of Colorado, Boulder, before graduating with a degree in History. He worked in construction and as a bouncer before breaking into acting, studying his craft in New York with legendary teacher Sanford Meisner. His television breakout role was on “NYPD Blue,” opposite Kim Delaney. That led to being cast on HBO's gritty landmark series “Oz,” playing the psychotic, bisexual serial killer, ‘Chris Keller.' In 1999, Meloni landed his starring role on the popular and long-running NBC series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” with the actor working in both series simultaneously until “Oz” ended its 6 year run in 2003. He continued on “Law & Order: SVU” for twelve seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for his performance as Detective Elliot Stabler. Meloni then returned to HBO in a pivotal arc as the head of the Vampire Authority, ‘Roman,' in Alan Ball's wildly popular drama, “True Blood;” and as Julie Louis-Dreyfus' trainer, ‘Ray,' in “Veep.” Meloni is currently co-starring in the Netflix limited event series, “Wet Hot American Summer” which is the prequel to the cult film in which he also co-starred. Meloni's other big screen credits include the August 2015 Sony Classics release, "Diary of a Teenage Girl " with Kristen Wiig; Greg Araki's "White Bird in a Blizzard"; "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For"; "Man of Steel"; "42"; "They Came Together"; "Small Time"; the Terry Gilliam films "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Twelve Monkeys"; the Wachowskis' first film "Bound"; the romantic comedy blockbuster "Runaway Bride"; "Nights in Rodanthe"; and such cult favorites as "Wet Hot American Summer", "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle", and its first sequel, "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay".

July 30th, 1966. England wins their first, and so far only, World Cup. And yet even today, over half a century later, one specific element of that victory is still viewed by many as one of the all-time most controversial sports moments. What led to the controversy? Will it ever be resolved? And how did the 1966 England soccer team revolutionize the on-field tactics of how the game would be played for decades to come? Special thanks to our guests; John Stiles, a former professional footballer and son of 1966 England national team midfielder Nobby Stiles; David Tossell, who wrote biographies on Jimmy Greaves and Alan Ball, two key contributors to the 1966 team; and John Hughson, a professor of Sport and Cultural Studies at the University of Central Lancashire, and author of England and the 1966 World Cup, A Cultural History. American Beauty was 1999's Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. And it was an unstoppable behemoth when it came to end of year accolades, cleaning up as well at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, SAG, and more. Critics practically tripped over themselves digging deep into their vocabularies to properly articulate the film's genius. And yet, 23 year later, the consensus seems to be that the film is...bad. So what happened (beyond the dark revelations of Kevin Spacey's long history of terrible, abusive behavior and sexual assault)? And is there anything left to make American Beauty a film that can still be appreciated? Is anything about American Beauty still beautiful? This week, John and Joey are joined by the Addington siblings, Aislinn and Tobin, co-hosts of CageClub's very own The Contenders podcast. They discuss their journeys from loving and then really, really hating Sam Mendes and Alan Ball's strange, misguided, ambitious, and hopelessly outdated failure.

Happy Wine Wednesday! We are back with another installment in our special series, The Pilot Project.  Terence Johnson returns this week to discuss the pilot episode of one of our favorite guilty pleasure shows, True Blood.  It turns out that Terence and I had a LOT to say about True Blood, so this week you will get our main discussion on the pilot and next week we will have  a bonus spoiler segment in which Terence and I discuss the series as a whole. It's also worth noting that by the end of the first segment, a LOT of wine had been consumed and it shows. We kick things off by talking about what drew us to the True Blood pilot and whether either one of us read the source material.  Of course we talk about the show's theme song and the very memorable opening sequence.Following that, we get into the Qs that need some As.  We discuss the opening sequence and how Alan Ball introduced us to the world of Bon Temps.  We also put a modern day lens on True Blood and discuss whether we would be open to dating a vampire and if we would have curiosity about vampire blood.  You know we can't discuss a show about supernaturals or superheroes without sharing which special ability we would want.Of course we get into the Bill and Sookie of it all - their introduction, their chemistry, and the preview into their taboo love that we see in the pilot episode.  In honor of Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer meeting and falling in love on the set of True Blood, we discuss some of our favorite couples who met on the set.We also get into the episode standouts, which of course includes a salute to the very talented Nelsan Ellis (RIP).  We then give our final elevator pitch as to why you might want to continue watching True Blood and then things get thirsty! Thanks so much for listening! Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, and we use adult language.  Be sure to follow and support Terence here: his website, his Twitter account, and his IG.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @MoreWinePod! Send longer feedback to morewinepod@gmail.com.  Be sure to check out our prior episodes on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Claws, The Walking Dead, Teen Wolf,  Euphoria, The Sopranos,  Orphan Black, Big Sky, Manifest, Pose, Bob's Burgers, and Black Ass Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/morewinepod)

Steve, born and bred in Liverpool and a lifelong Evertonian, speaks about his experiences coming through the ranks, how he helped Alex Young with his blisters, getting advice from Alan Ball and how wingers would frequently go ‘over the top' on full-backs! He also recalls Bernie Wright, injustices like Carlisle United and AC Milan, and the day he went for the throat of a Brazilian football legend in America! On leaving Everton, Steve signed for Detroit Express in the North American Soccer League, and apart from that fall-out with a 1970 World Cup winner, it was an experience he thoroughly enjoyed – playing against the likes of George Best, Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer.
