Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today!Cyberpunk is not solely an American phenomenon, and even as Western works like Blade Runner and Neuromancer were releasing in the 1980s, Japan was already well on its way to becoming a wellspring of high-tech-low-life science fiction. Part Charlie's Angels, part Iron Man, and all attitude, Bubblegum Crisis exploded onto Japanese screens in 1987 to smash the glass ceiling of female representation in bad ass anime. Squealing tires and squealing guitars provide the soundtrack to this techno-thriller that prefigures the direction anime and Western animation would take for the next two decades. In this episode, we discuss how Bubblegum Crisis came to be and why it may never be again, the cross-pollination that informed the development of cyberpunk on both sides of the Pacific, the economic conditions in Showa Japan that created the OVA boom and modern anime, putting female characters front-and-center, and the unique Japanese flavor of cyberpunk media. We also talk about ChatGPT drinking all our water, Top Gun maps, Chris Nolan: Anime Fan, getting your ball back, Lupin the Murderer, distilling liquid 1987, feminism blankets, missing the yaoi, an exoskeleton for your exoskeleton, Grimace Hulk, and it's not anime...it's HBO!THE BABY SITUATION IS BAD!The new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network. In this episode of Beat Motel Andrew is joined by Dr Hannah. Join us as we dive into non-English music, from French hip-hop to North African future funk and Italian soap-opera jams. Along the way, we touch on archaeology, conspiracy theorists, and of course, toilet humor – because what's a Beat Motel episode without that? We chat about: - Dr. Sam's political philosophy doctorate (no, he can't save lives). - Sparks' 70s awkward sexiness and North African beats that sound straight out of _The Fifth Element_. - Anime, cyberpunk, and Blade Runner-inspired 80s Japanese pop (shout-out to _Bubblegum Crisis_ fans). - Icelandic shout-singing with Bjork before she got _really_ weird. - French hip-hop legends that groove smoother than my grandmother's custard. Hold onto your milking stools (yes, we explain that), as we explore weird instrumentals, wax lyrical about vinyl obsessions, and debate which music genre has the weirdest accents. Also, if you're into Matt Berry and his mysterious music career, we've got you covered. Dr. Hannah's knowledge runs deep, and we pretend to keep up. ### Riffs of the week #### Dr Hannah's Riff - Sparks - Happy Hunting Ground (2:54) #### Andrew's Riff - Norma Tanega - You're dead (opening) ### Dr Hannah's track choices 1. Well, it's my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven't seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time's gone by. This month, I'm going back in time to revisit a Saturday Anime title that I only ever watched once before, and never again, until now--it's Project A-ko VERSUS! ....y'know, that official Project A-ko AU? THE ARTIFICE GIRL focuses on a team of special agents as they delve into the orgin of a revolutionary new computer program that baits and traps shockingly high percentage of online child predators. After teaming up with the program's troubled developer, they soon find that the AI is rapidly advancing beyond its original purpose. THE ARTIFICE GIRL is directed and written by Franklin Ritch in his feature film debut. The film stars Tatum Matthews (The Waltons: Homecoming), David Girard (short “Teardrop Goodbye with Mandatory Directorial Commentary by Remy Von Trout”), Sinda Nichols (That Abandoned Place, “Bubblegum Crisis”), Franklin Ritch and Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Quick and the Dead). Director, screenwriter, editor and actor Franklin Ritch joins us for a conversation on how he came to write the script for The Artifice Girl, his thoughts on the very complicated choices that will need to be addressed with the ascendancy of Artificial Intelligence in our lives, working with a cast of relative unknown actors, and how habits of compassion and kindness could be a by-product of everyday AI. Episode 123 of Key Frames, a podcast about anime. What follows is a list of podcast HR violations in this episode, as reported by a certain B. Halliburton: Andy talked about the new iDOLM@STER show for over five minutes; Duncan brought up Trigun Stampede unprompted, for the purpose of causing emotional distress; Andy refused to concede that the new KonoSuba spinoff is unfunny; Andy willfully misinterpreted the boomers in Bubblegum Crisis to be senior citizens; Duncan and Andy scoffed at the spring 2023 anime season being described as "slow"; and Duncan needlessly sexualized the casts of Tsurune, Yuri on Ice, and Free. Disciplinary action is forthcoming. We at Key Frames appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. The post 123 - Married to Mamiko Noto first appeared on Key Frames.

يتغلب كيس ومولي على التدخلات القانونية السيبرانية ومحاولة خيانة من ريفيرا لدمج وينترميوت مع نيورومانسر، وينتهي الأمر بكيس يعيش في عالم جديد شجاعأفلام:· Escape from New York (1981)[40][41]· Burst City (1982)[42]· Tron (1982)[43]· Blade Runner (1982)[44]· Brainstorm (1983)[45]· Videodrome (1983)[46]· Repo Man (1984)· The Terminator (1984)· Brazil (1985)· RoboCop (1987)[47]· The Running Man (1987)· Gunhed (1989)[48]· Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)· Circuitry Man (1990)[49]· RoboCop 2 (1990)· Hardware (a.k.a. “Girls with guns” has been a growing subgenre staple in anime ever since, well, the birth of anime. In the 80s we had series like Dirty Pair and Bubblegum Crisis, the 90s brought us Gunsmith Cats and Kite, and in the 00s there was Black Lagoon and Gunslinger Girl. Bringing us to present day with series like Sword Art Online Alternative, Otherside Picnic, High-Rise Invasion and countless other series that might not revolve around girls with guns, but they do have at least one girl with a gun. This last season of anime brought us another great series to add to that list with Lycoris Recoil and made us want to explore the sub genre as a whole. This anime original series about orphaned girls turned trained assassins enlisted to keep this futuristic eutopic Tokyo, safe from any kind of threat is a stellar addition to the genre while building on the tropes that make this subgenre so iconic. We talk about the humble beginnings of Girls with Guns, what made them so impactful to the community and why Lycoris Recoil deserves to stand with it's peers. https://linktr.ee/Otakuhostclub Don't forget to check out our weekly Chainsaw Man Series as well! On this episode, join Ed, Karen, Kate, Garrett, & Dennis as we discuss the first four episodes of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. This 1998 remake was done after Studio AIC obtained full rights to the Bubblegum Crisis property, and now they get to try to tell a complete story. As big fans of the original OVA series, it's hard not to compare the two, but we sure find the good kinds of comparisons and contrasts. From a different viewpoint character, much different music, and different story twists, it's also cool seeing what stayed the same for the Knight Sabers in both versions.
