It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a three parter anyways. 2012 was for me, a little bit of a slacker for horror movies, some would say that not enough time has elapsed to make this assessment, I say, shnozwaddle! The highs are really high & the lows can be quite messy. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2012? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 5 hours of running time split over 3 episodes. Today we take break from our usual format to play a horror movie themed game. We also talk about a variety of horror movies from Dracula to Dracula 3D!
Accademia Giallo is dressing up as a vampire this Halloween season, with a 10th anniversary review of Argento's Dracula 3D!Rutger Hauer stars as Van Helsing to Thomas Kretschmann's Count Dracula in this wild re-imagining of the blood-sucking mythos. Is the film as ridiculous as Ian remembers from his experience seeing it in 3D at the Chicago International Film Festival (yes, really) ten years ago? Or has his half-decade-plus education in all things Argento, Hammer, and giallo (thanks to a knowledgeable and very patient faculty) helped him appreciate the Maestro's take on the Transylvanian Terror?Take your seat and follow along as we talk CGI abominations; the rise and stumble of Dario Argento; and whether or not this film could have actually worked with an American production company at the fore.Plus: AC talks about how you can participate in Scare-a-Thon 2023 (supporting the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project), and recounts his experience seeing the film's premiere at the Brussels International Film Festival--with Argento in attendance!Show LinksWatch the Argento's Dracula 3D trailer.Learn more about "Scare-a-Thon 2023" at Horror 101 w/ Dr. AC.And donate directly to the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project via AC's "Scare-a-Thon" link!Support all of our terrifying teachers' axe-tracurricular activities!Stay studious with Aaron Christensen at Horror101 with Dr. AC!If you dare, venture down into Kitley's Krypt with Jon Kitley! Welcome back to Not A Bomb Presents: Breaking Brad. The premise is pretty simple. Troy, Sammy from GGTMC, and Jose from Watch/Skip+ pick some of the worst films imaginable to see if they can break Brad. On this episode, the gang tackles “Legendary” director Dario Argento's adaption of Dracula in 2012's Dracula 3D. Oh boy. There is so much to unpack in this one: Asia Argento's “performance”, a CGI praying mantis, color changing trains, a sleepwalking Rutger Hauer performance, and garlic bullets. Was this the film that finally broke Brad? Or did it cause some collateral damage among the group? Listen and find out!Be sure to subscribe to the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema to hear more of Sammy. Also, check out Jose's podcast - Watch/Skip+ • A podcast on Anchor.
The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of infamous killer Ed Gein. His influence on pop culture is staggering, and while we don't usually dabble in true crime, we couldn't resist on this one. Plus our usual random talk, geek news, and tangents

Just when you thought it was safe to walk the darkened streets of Italy with a bare throat, Dario Argento is BACK! And he's sporting gloved hands and a killer pair of DARK GLASSES. Which, of course, happens to be the name of his new movie in a very, very long time. Even longer if you don't want to count his last movie as a movie. But, thanks to Shudder, we get a chance to see the legend return to his simplistic giallo roots and ring in the month of October the right way. How does this newest tale of murder fare against his many classics? Is it a return to form? Can we all just pretend Dracula 3D didn't happen?

Earlier this year, we lost Rutger Hauer. Hauer performed in many films of varying quality over five decades, so Adam and Thomas are spotlighting two examples tonight. First is Thomas' bad pick Dracula 3D, one the worst films ever covered on this show. Then, Adam's good pick Ladyhawke an underrated 80s fantasy gem. Together our heroes recommend a slice at Dario Argento's pizza parlor, puzzle over how to reload a crossbow and pick the films for next week's episode on directorial debuts. Now give this one a listen before it transforms into a hawke and flies away! The ADR Doggies Bite Back Liberated from Hull, Graham settles in with Rob for a preview of perhaps the strangest sports movie ever made - Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt's "Diamantino", with its gene-tampering weirdness, lesbian drone pilots and floof bois. It's not the last dog cameo on the show, but it's surely the best. Off the Shelf sees Graham arguing the defence for Criterion's reissue of Edgar G Ulmer's classic noir "Detour" against a sceptical Rob, before Rob inexplicably punishes himself with Dario Argento's late-period take on Dracula - which is honestly not his best work. This year for Halloween we have another episode from the back catalog! In this blast from the past the boys talk about the fine line between good movies and bad movies, how the hell Gary Oldman hadn’t won an Oscar before 2018, the sexual nature of the Dracula story, and much more. Watch, listen, and have a happy Halloween!
Episode 116 is about a movie that has the allure of a big name attached to it. Well, two if you count "Dracula”. Yes, we’re talking about “Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D” (2012). Dario may have lost his mojo some time prior to making this one. Of course, this doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to talk about. Will figures that the $5.99 Richard spent on the used DVD is about double what the box office returns were. Richard recently watched Argento’s “Inferno” (1980). To describe this one sounds like you’re making it up. Jolyon recently watched three other Argento films, all of which were “Suspiria” (1977). That’s right. If you are looking forward to Rutger Hauer strolling in and lighting up the screen as Van Helsing, you’ll have to wait. An hour and 14 minutes, to be exact. But then you finally get a Dutch guy playing this Dutch guy. A cinematic first! Another first is Dracula turning into an owl! You know what isn’t a cinematic first? Asia Argento nude! So, there’s something for everyone. Now, it’s time to make those lanky wolves a sandwich and deliver a naked CG slapaway! Bekah checked out THE SATANIST from 1968, THE RIFT from 1990, and the book THE MAY QUEEN MURDERS. Then they welcome very special guest Adam Rifkin, aka Rif Coogan! They delve into Rifkin's early days in the business with films like PSYCHO COP RETURNS, THE DARK BACKWARD, and THE CHASE, which gave Henry Rollins his first big screen credit. He explains how he ended up being a sought after screenwriter responsible for MOUSETRAP and SMALL SOLDIERS. As well as writing and directing a new movie with his hero Burt Reynolds. All this and more on the latest Shock Waves!

Shocktober continues/ends with Dario Argento totally forgetting everything he knew about filmmaking (and we don't even like him that much) with Dracula 3D. Meanwhile, Dan reveals the alternate, director's cut ending to Escape (The Pina Colada Song), Elliott out-pervs the pervazoid with his demands for more nudity, and Stuart once again astounds with his facility for accents. This week we talk about Dario Argento’s Dracula , otherwise known as Dracula 3D. We also discuss horror video games coming out later in the year, and some that just recently came out. This episode is a little shorter.

Well we are back again and as Horrotober rolls to a close and we eye our 100th episode with suspicion and intrigue, we thought it was a good time to see just what all the fuss was about Dario Argento's Dracula 3D.We went to a NY cinema and managed to see it on the big screen, in 3D and with a fairly respectable crowd as well!Hear the thoughts of my co-host James Wallace and me, in a diner afterwards, and maybe be surprised, maybe reel in horror as we order something questionable or maybe just have a chuckle that we manage to find some serious stuff to say about Dracula 3D. We hope, whatever way you listen to the show, you'll enjoy! You can SHOP The After Movie Diner http://www.cafepress.com/aftermoviediner LOTS of original and unique designs available on a variety of clothing styles for all ages, office & home supplies and gifts for all the family! Dario Argento returns with his unique take on the well-traversed Dracula story... but this time in 3D! Daughter Asia Argento and Rutger Hauer get in on the fun as we explore the wonders of CGI wolves, horrible French accents, poorly-designed jails, nudity, partially rendered computer animation, and giant killer praying mantises. Everything you remember from Bram Stoker's seminal work! The always hilarious Adam Pecht guest stars in this episode.
John and Scott dissect a Presidential Speech; and discuss: Kittens; More Silk Road arrests; Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD; Dario Argento's Dracula 3D and I, Frankenstein & more.
Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Dark Discussions brings their view on the rest of the genre films coming out in 2013. In Episode 084, we discussed the films expected in the first half of the year. This time the months of July through December are focused upon (with a few exceptions). One of the bigger releases includes Guillermo Del Toro’s giant monster movie Pacific Rim. Other films are the Marvel film Wolverine, Vin Diesel’s Riddick, Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. Big spectacle films include Matt Damon’s aptly titled Elysium, Naomi Watts’ The Impossible, George Clooney’s Gravity, Gore Verbinski’s Lone Ranger, and Peter Jackson’s second Hobbit film. But there’s more, including horror films such as James Wan’s The Conjuring, Adam Wingard’s You’re Next, Oliver Blackburn’s Satanic, the Soska sister’s Lovely Molly, and Danielle Harris’s Among Friends are all coming. All are coming! But there is even more films than that including Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem, Neil Marshall’s The Voyage of the Demeter, Halle Berry’s The Call, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s The World’s End, Elijah Wood’s Maniac, Joe Hill’s Horns, and Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D. There is even more than that including foreign highlights as Thale, Livid, and Akira. Dark Discussions gives their take on all these and more.

Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. As the modern vampire haunts cinemas, video games, and graphic novels, the best selling author Charlaine Harris creates within the written page a mind reading woman named Sookie Stackhouse who lives in an alternate yet present day world where vampires, werewolves and witches roam through a land unhidden and unafraid of humans and their superstition. True Blood, HBO’s riveting television series, created by producer Alan Ball takes Charlaine Harris’s stories to the small screen. With its elements of extreme exploitation and violence but having the traits of soap opera and romance, the series has reinvented vampires and the classic monsters once more. Paying homage to 1970’s blood and boobs drive-in fair and the violent yet romantic novels of Anne Rice, True Blood has been so successful that the production of a fifth season has begun. Dark Discussions discusses the success of the show and how it has taken television by storm. But what about less familiar vampire films? Your hosts, Mike and Philip, cite some films and programs that any vampire fan should know about. Mike mentions the Nicholas Cage film Vampire Kiss, the short lived television show Kindred the Embrace, Mario Bava’s classic film Black Sunday, and the Hammer Film Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter. Philip speaks enthusiastically about the movies Vampyres, Daughters of Darkness, and The Blood Spattered Bride, three of the most influential drive in horror vampire films of all time. Also discussed are the two Ingrid Pitt Hammer Films, Countess Dracula and the Vampire Lovers, possibly two of the best takes on the vampire. But what of other media? Two of the better vampire novels Vampyrrhic by Simon Clark and The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon are discussed. Anime has been a staple of the vampire. Such shows as Dance of the Vampire Bund, Blood+, Vampire Hunter D, and Trinity Blood have large audiences. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel brought producer Joss Whedon to stardom. The CW's The Vampire Diaries has been a huge hit. The Vertigo/DC Comics graphic novel Preacher was highly influential and a throwback to the old horror comics of bygone years. Some new vampire films have become available such as the Japanese film Blood starring Aya Sugimoto and the German film We Are the Night. And two upcoming additions to the vampire film are soon to hit the big screen, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows and Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D. Dark Discussions brings to light all these topics and more. Take out your rosary beads and pray that you can finish listening before the night falls.
