In this episode, Teri is welcomed by Keri Roberts on the Inside Voice Podcast to talk about a whole host of topics around voice technology.Enjoy the Conversation!Teri is a sports exercise physician and clinical assistant professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is the founder of Voice First Health, the leading podcast about the intersection of voice first technology and healthcare. He is also the founder of Alexa in Canada, the leading Amazon Alexa resource for Canadians. He is an award winning TEDx and keynote speaker, Amazon Alexa champion, educator, consultant, podcaster and briefcaster who loves sharing his excitement for artificial intelligence and voice first technology. He is the host of both his podcasts, and the daily Voice in Canada flash briefing, which is the number one rated Amazon Alex flash briefing and new skill in Canada.Becoming an Alexa ChampionTeri was recently named an Alexa champion due to his last few years of content development around Amazon Alexa and voice technology in general. He started the Alexa in Canada podcast, Voice in Canada flash briefing, and the Voice First Health Podcast to help grow the voice technology community and get people excited about the possibilities around what Alexa can do for them and society as a whole. He has also helped people develop their own flash briefings through his flash briefing course. All his content was picked up by Amazon and they wanted to recognize him for it.Crack the Code Gamified Flash BriefingIt’s been a fun game that Teri has been doing and he recently did its second round. The first time he did it, it was as a thank you to his listeners, podcast guests, and sponsors. He wanted it to be a flash briefing but since flash briefings don’t allow for a two-way conversation, he created an accompanying Alexa skill, which he called Crack the Code.To play the game, listeners have to listen to the Voice in Canada flash briefing every day so they can hear the clue or puzzle Teri shares. They then have to solve the clue or puzzle and go to the Crack the Code skill, talk to Alexa, and then find out if they got the correct answer to the clue or puzzle.Alexa then gives them a small little piece of the final code.If they do that every day for the duration of the contest, then they get all the pieces to say the final code to Alexa. If they crack the code, Alexa gives them the information on how to enter to win a big prize package. The last Crack the Code contest went on for 10 days and Teri got a lot of great feedback from participants. Close to 900 people entered the contest and 51 actually solved the code and were given a variety of prizes. The contest was sponsored by AudioBurst, Trinity Audio, Treble.FM, VoiceXP, Voice Summit, and Amazon. The previous Crack the Code had gone on for 14 days and the feedback he got is that 14 days was a little too long. The contest created a voice marketing funnel for Teri because when people listened to the flash briefing and played the game, they would ultimately enter their email address which enabled Teri to build his email list.Marketing the Flash BriefingWhen he first started his flash briefing, he had had his podcast for a few months and a bit of an audience, which helped attract listeners to the flash briefing. There was nothing else in Canada in terms of Alexa related content so Canadians who were interested in Alexa could quickly access his website because it ranked high on Google. That also helped build his brand.Earlier on, he promoted the flash briefing on his podcast and blog.Being Influenced By Gary Vee Teri first heard about voice technology from Gary Vaynerchuk and Gary has been a huge influence on him.A lot of people in the voice technology industry are influenced by Gary Vaynerchuk.Building a Team Around his BrandTeri realized that with his full time job, he needed help in doing more video content and sharing out his content on a wider scale. He was lucky to get a videographer and digital marketing strategist. He had them both with him at Project Voice to capture as much content as possible so he could produce valuable, entertaining, and educational content for the voice community.Distributing that content helps to build his own brand.Sonic BrandingAs we go into the voice first era, sonic branding will be critical for every business. It’s all about what a brand sounds like.Teri recently worked with Audrey Arbeeney of Audiobrain to create his sonic branding based on his interests and character.Using Voice in His Daily LifeHe hasn’t actually incorporated voice in his practice due to the data security, privacy, and other issues surrounding voice. He is very interested in using Alexa and Alexa devices as educational tools for health education. At home, he uses Alexa for routines, flash briefings, home automation, and his kids have fun playing games. He also experiments with skills he can create. He is excited about the potential for how voice assistants can be used in the home and how homes will become like little satellite medical clinics as the technology get better.List of resources mentioned in this episodeThe COVID-19 Informational WebinarLearn How to Create Your Own Flash BriefingThe Alexa in Canada PodcastThe Voice First Health PodcastOther useful resources:Voice in Canada: The Flash BriefingComplete List of Alexa CommandsAlexa-Enabled and Controlled Devices in CanadaTeri Fisher on TwitterAlexa in Canada on TwitterAlexa in Canada Facebook PageAlexa in Canada Community Group on FacebookAlexa in Canada on InstagramPlease leave a review on iTunesShopping on Amazon.ca See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Guest: Bob Stolzberg, CEO & Founder of VoiceXP Topic: Wise Words from a Voice Pioneer Bob Stolzberg joins Dave to share some of the key things he's learned across the first three years that Bob has been building voice experiences. Bob's company, VoiceXP, provides a do-it-yourself platform that allows anyone to easily create voice experiences for Alexa or Google Assistant on their own - as Bob refers to it, it's the "Wix/Squarespace of Voice." One of the key learnings that Bob shares is that it's best to keep your experience simple at the onset and not try to, "boil the ocean." Launching a voice experience is only half the battle, as the other half is making people aware of the experience via legacy marketing efforts. If you build it, they won't necessarily come. The two move onto what the future holds as we enter into this new decade and Bob believes that one of the biggest breakthroughs will be the vast increases in API's that voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant can tap into. This will reduce the friction for users to access voice skills, which means it will be much more compelling for businesses of all types to start creating voice experiences. In addition, Bob sees "in-situation" invocations becoming a compelling hook to get businesses to buy into building voice experiences. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/futureear/message

In this episode, Teri shares part 2 of his conversation with Bob Stolzberg, the Founder and CEO of VoiceXP, the most advanced Alexa skill building tool in the world. Enjoy!Bob is a rabbid voice enthusiast and enjoys helping people turn their dreams into reality. They will talk about the process of creating the gamified version of the Voice in Canada flash briefing, the marketing aspects of it, and why it would be a valuable thing for marketers to reproduce. The Marketing FunnelTeri introduced a flash briefing to a marketing funnel, which VoiceXP had never done before. What they managed to create is a voice funnel. At the top of the funnel is the Alexa in Canada community, and the Alexa in Canada brand’s social media and web presence. Then there is the next layer made up of Teri’s podcast and flash briefing. The podcast and flash briefing have subscribers (listeners) and the core purpose of the voice funnel is to help convert the listeners into a list. The Crack the Code skill also helped in converting listeners. When a subscriber listens to the Voice in Canada flash briefing and they’re engaged enough, they can go and play Crack the Code. Once they crack the code, they get to enter their phone number into the platform so that they can be texted the information that they need to go and enter the final contest to be eligible for the grand prizes. The funnel is working wonders and is receiving very positive responses. The Difficulties in Creating Crack the CodeIt was not easy coming up with and creating the skill. It took Teri about a month of daily commitment. The content in the different layers of Crack the Code is totally on point, and it’s difficult for people who aren’t marketers to write such content. The Crack the Code skill gets people engaged and it’s really well written. It has sound effects and is easy to understand. All that took time and a lot of commitment to develop.Speaking at the Voice of the Flash BriefingThis is an online conference that both Teri and Bob will be speaking at.The conference is all about teaching people about flash briefings. Some of the best flash briefings’ creators in the world will be there. It’s coming up in October 2019.List of resources mentioned in this episodeVoiceXP WebsiteVoice of the Flash BriefingOther useful resources:Voice in Canada: The Flash BriefingComplete List of Alexa CommandsAlexa-Enabled and Controlled Devices in CanadaTeri Fisher on TwitterAlexa in Canada on TwitterAlexa in Canada Facebook PageAlexa in Canada Community Group on FacebookAlexa in Canada on InstagramPlease leave a review on iTunesShopping on Amazon.ca See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this episode, Teri has a conversation with Bob Stolzberg, the Founder and CEO of VoiceXP, the most advanced Alexa skill-building tool in the world. Enjoy!Bob and Teri will talk about how the idea for the gamified flash briefing came up, how Bob got involved in the project, the great experience they had creating it, and how amazingly well it’s done so far.Teri’s Idea for Crack the CodeHe has been very obsessed with flash briefings and has been doing them for more than 500 consecutive days.He wanted to do something special to celebrate his 500th episode and thank his listeners for supporting the flash briefing. He also wanted to thank the guests he had on the Alexa in Canada podcast. He came up with the idea of creating a gamified flash briefing and the first challenge to overcome was how to create a gamified flash briefing when a user can only interact one way with flash briefings. So he came up with the idea for an Alexa skill that he could tie into the flash briefing in a way that listeners could play some type of game by being interactive with the skill based on what they hear from the flash briefing. That’s how he came up with the skill, Crack the Code.Listeners listen to the Voice in Canada flash briefing for a clue or riddle that they have to solve after which they then go to the Crack the Code skill, interact with the skill, and if they can put in the right codes, they get to win some great prizes.Bob’s Role and Experience in Creating Crack the CodeBob’s platform VoiceXP enabled the development of the skill. Their approach in designing VoiceXP was focusing on making it as simple as Craigslist.Bob wanted to help Teri build an amazing experience and he had fun creating it.Teri would come up with a new feature, pitch it to Bob and the VoiceXP team, and they would develop it and test it within a day.The skill was deployed to 5 different English speaking countries so people could go to their native Amazon.com skill stores to find it.Crack the Code had an amazing reach on social media and even went viral within the voice space. The first day it launched, someone contacted Teri about the skill not working, but when Bob looked into it, he found out that the skill had overwhelmingly heavy traffic. That was because of its global deployment, awesome sound effects, and the different voice devices people were using to access it. The problem was not with the skill, it was Amazon Alexa system wide errors. The Texting Feature Within the Skill: TeriBob and his VoiceXP team were able to implement this great feature.Teri wanted to reward listeners, reward supporters, bring in more listenership, and also figure out how to integrate a flash briefing, a podcast, website assets, and the game skill in such a way that a listener who cracks the code would be able to go Crack the Code and play the game, and then go to the Alexa in Canada website and enter the contest.Despite it being a multi-step game, it has had an overwhelming response. The website traffic has been through the roof.To make it as seamless as possible, they came up with the idea to allow people playing the game to enter their phone number and get a text directly with the link when they need it, so that they could go directly to the website. The VoiceXP platform made that all possible.
