I, Stewart Alsop, welcomed Alex Levin, CEO and co-founder of Regal, to this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast to discuss the fascinating world of AI phone agents. Alex shared some incredible insights into how AI is already transforming customer interactions and what the future holds for company agents, machine-to-machine communication, and even the nature of knowledge itself.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:29 Alex Levin shares that people are often more honest with AI agents than human agents, especially regarding payments.02:41 The surprising persistence of voice as a preferred channel for customer interaction, and how AI is set to revolutionize it.05:15 Discussion of the three types of AI agents: personal, work, and company agents, and how conversational AI will become the main interface with brands.07:12 Exploring the shift to machine-to-machine interactions and how AI changes what knowledge humans need versus what machines need.10:56 The looming challenge of centralization versus decentralization in AI, and how Americans often prioritize experience over privacy.14:11 Alex explains how tokenized data can offer personalized experiences without compromising specific individual privacy.25:44 Voice is predicted to become the primary way we interact with brands and technology due to its naturalness and efficiency.33:21 Why AI agents are easier to implement in contact centers due to different entropy compared to typical software.38:13 How Regal ensures AI agents stay on script and avoid "hallucinations" by proper training and guardrails.46:11 The technical challenges in replicating human conversational latency and nuances in AI voice interactions.Key InsightsAI Elicits HonestyPeople tend to be more forthright with AI agents, particularly in financially sensitive situations like discussing overdue payments. Alex speculates this is because individuals may feel less judged by an AI, leading to more truthful disclosures compared to interactions with human agents.Voice is King, AI is its HeirDespite predictions of its decline, voice remains a dominant channel for customer interactions. Alex believes that within three to five years, AI will handle as much as 90% of these voice interactions, transforming customer service with its efficiency and availability. The Rise of Company AgentsThe primary interface with most brands is expected to shift from websites and apps to conversational AI agents. This is because voice is a more natural, faster, and emotive way for humans to interact, a behavior already seen in younger generations.Machine-to-Machine FutureWe're moving towards a world where AI agents representing companies will interact directly with AI agents representing consumers. This "machine-to-machine" (M2M) paradigm will redefine commerce and the nature of how businesses and customers engage.Ontology of KnowledgeAs AI systems process vast amounts of information, creating a clear "ontology of knowledge" becomes crucial. This means structuring and categorizing information so AI can understand the context and user's underlying intent, rather than just processing raw data.Tokenized Data for PrivacyA potential solution to privacy concerns is "tokenized data." Instead of providing AI with specific personal details, users could share generalized tokens (e.g., "high-intent buyer in 30s") that allow for personalized experiences without revealing sensitive, identifiable information.AI Highlights Human InconsistenciesImplementing AI often brings to light existing inconsistencies or unacknowledged issues within a company. For instance, AI might reveal discrepancies between official scripts and how top-performing human agents actually communicate, forcing companies to address these differences.Influence as a Key Human SkillIn a future increasingly shaped by AI, Sam Altman (via Alex) suggests that the ability to "influence" others will be a paramount human skill. This uniquely human trait will be vital, whether for interacting with other people or for guiding and shaping AI systems.Contact Information* Regal AI: regal.ai* Email: hello@regal.ai* LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/alexlevin1/

Kelly talks to tech entrepreneur Tobias Dengel about his new book “Sound of the Future: The Coming Age of Voice Technology.” “Speed is the ultimate weapon in business.” “You cannot create the world's best products if everyone in the room looks the same.” “Your first task is to fall in love with the problem.
Tobias Dengel believes voice technology is poised to completely transform how we interact with apps, services and even entire industries. As someone who has been working with digital technology for decades, Tobias predicts a major shift from conversational assistants to devices that combine voice, visuals and more. He joins us to talk about his work developing voice technology with WillowTree and his new book: The Sounds of the Future.
Cian Maher, Head of Voice Technology and Infrastructure for global communications business DigitalWell, discusses his top technology trend predictions for the new year and what he believes are driving them What do hybrid work, security concerns and the boom of all things relating to artificial intelligence (AI) have in common? They've all dominated the contact centre and communication technology conversations of 2023. As organisations adapted to a hybrid work environment, the significance of secure and efficient communication tools became paramount. Simultaneously, the integration of AI into various facets of business operations reshaped how companies approach customer service, data management, and predictive analytics. The interplay of these three factors - hybrid work, security and AI - has set the stage for a technological landscape that continues to evolve rapidly. So, as we kick off the new year, will 2024 be another groundbreaking chapter in the realm of technology - and exactly what can we expect? Top technology predictions for the new year and beyond Anticipated trends in the field of communications specifically - although there are many similarities across industries - stem from businesses pursuing cost efficiency, talent optimisation and increased service reliability. With these drivers in mind, thoughts immediately turn to AI and machine learning, with the 2023 generative AI boom likely to bring significant developments in the AI and automation space, such as: Automating routine tasks: A trend we've already seen unfold in 2023, but expect to see an increase in popularity in the coming year, businesses utilising contact centres, for example, have been leveraging AI to automate simple tasks and even provide 24/7 support for routine inquiries that don't require complex understanding. This, of course, not only reduces the need for extensive human resources, but frees up employees' time to handle more complex issues that demand a human touch. As well as addressing the challenge of talent acquisition and retention in contact centres, the use of AI in this way really paves the way to a more streamlined and efficient customer service model, allowing customers to interact with businesses, seek information, and make minor requests independently. Companies operating in regulated industries, such as telecoms, may also explore the use of AI automating tasks related to licensing, paperwork, and communication with regulatory bodies in different countries. Expansion of self-service capabilities: Alongside automating routine tasks, I also predict an expansion of self-service capabilities in AI as businesses continue to drive operational efficiency and aim for more reliable and resilient services. On this note, I can see AI handling tasks such as contract extensions or service renewals on the cards, or even being involved in more complex, proactive areas, like identifying and understanding trends related to faults, learning from patterns in repeated customer reports, and predicting potential issues in the network before they escalate. Enhanced social media monitoring: We expect to see AI used more for monitoring social media, emails, live chat, and other communication methods. From sentiment analysis to flagging harmful content and notifying relevant parties, businesses - especially those in customer service and brand protection - will likely benefit hugely from these capabilities as they become more accurate and powerful in 2024. Language translation services: For businesses that operate globally, with customers and partners who speak different languages, AI could be a game-changer when it comes to addressing language barriers. AI has the potential to facilitate live translation services, acting as a dynamic translator during conversations, or enabling speech-to-text and text-to-speech functionalities to bridge language gaps. Augmented and Virtual Reality in unified communications: If AI could contribute to the integration of aug...

In this insightful episode of the Tech Talks Daily Podcast, I sat down with Tobias Dengel, CEO of WillowTree, a leader in the digital product industry. Our conversation revolved around the transformative potential of voice technology and its role in reshaping our interaction with devices and machines. Tobias brought a wealth of knowledge and foresight on how the latest advancements in AI and voice technology are set to revolutionize our daily lives and the business landscape. At the outset, Tobias and I explored the concept of the complete reinvention of human-device interaction. We delved into how voice technology, powered by cutting-edge AI, is not just an emerging trend but a pivotal shift towards a more intuitive, efficient, and human-centric way of engaging with technology. Tobias emphasized the evolution of digital experiences towards multimodal interfaces, which integrate spoken words, screens, keyboards, sounds, and haptics, creating a seamless connection between humans and machines. A crucial part of our discussion focused on crafting exceptional user experiences in voice technology. Tobias highlighted the need for a multimodal approach, where voice is used for input and other output forms like text or graphics. This approach, he believes, is the breakthrough we need to enhance our interaction with technology, making it more natural and effective. We then tackled the challenges inherent in creating relatable and compelling voice interactions. Tobias and I discussed the crucial balance between making voice technology relatable yet transparent about its non-human nature. We also touched upon the sensitive data collection and usage issue, underscoring the need for clear communication and ethical practices in this domain. Diversity in voice technology development was another significant topic we covered. Tobias highlighted the progress made in training systems to recognize a variety of accents and languages, underlining the importance of inclusivity in this field. He also advised businesses on implementing voice technology, advocating for a step-by-step approach that focuses on solving bounded problems and gradually building trust with users. Responding to the crisis of medical burnout, Punit Singh Soni, a former product manager at Google, launched the company Suki with a specific goal: leverage the burgeoning field of voice technology to lessen the growing administrative burden on clinicians. Soni says enterprise contexts, and healthcare in particular, are well-suited for the next generation of assistive voice-activated software. “Whatever you're going to do in medicine is going to be interwoven with technology in the near future,” he tells host Shiv Gaglani. But as the rickety state of so much current healthcare administrative technology suggests, the prevailing cultures in the tech and medical worlds do not easily mix. Rather than trying to reshape how doctors do their job, Soni seeks to meet doctors where they already are, seamlessly integrating a voice system into the fabric of their work so they can spend more time caring for patients. Tune in to hear about why “the biggest technology company ever built is going to be in healthcare,” and how a user-centric mindset can help you not just build a company, but craft a career.
