When Jeff Stevens stopped drinking in the early 90s, there were very few options when he'd go out with friends to a bar. Finally, he decided to change that. In 2017, he founded Wellbeing Brewing Company, a nonalcoholic craft beer brand that's help shaped the way of the category in the beverage business. Now, in 2025, they have several different beer varieties, plus they are expanding into the CBD and, eventually, the THC beverage landscape. Jeff shares the science behind the beer, the growing movement away from alcohol and what excites him most about building a community for the sober and sober curious. Jeff Stevens, owner/operator of Wellbeing Brewing Company, tells KMOX's Stuart McMillian how the mindset of beer without alcohol is changing.
You and your employees' social, mental and physical wellbeing matter. The craft beer industry is in a time of reckoning with an all-time record of people leaving their jobs, and employers struggling to fill vacant roles. 1 in 5 employees left a job at some point in their career because of its toxic organizational culture. By one estimate, employee turnover triggered by a toxic culture cost U.S. employers nearly $50 billion per year pre-pandemic. What makes a brewery's culture toxic is often the elevated levels of stress, burnout, mental health issues and pain experienced at work or as a result of their work. While these types of experiences are often common, they are not talked about by and among peers in craft beer. The consequences of the endured pain and silence lead to disengagement in many forms. Two leaders in craft beer share their honest stories of quitting - leaving toxic behaviours, routines, and craft brewery cultures and finding their way to a balanced way of life working inside and living outside of craft beer. Where their identities are more than what they drink or the brewery they work for. Dana Kaluzny (she/her) is a Facilitator, bringing people together for projects that matter and the Co-Owner and Founder of Endswell Beer, a small-batch brewery for people who love beer with people in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. Tom Halaska has almost 30 years of Food & Beverage experience, and community has always been at the heart of his programming. Currently the National Sales Director for Ritual Zero Proof Spirits, Tom's focus is now on helping bar and restaurant owners to create a more inclusive beverage program for the modern drinker. Prior to his current role, as Global Brand Manager, Tom not only lifted WellBeing Brewing Company to the top of the Craft NA Beer category, but also helped create the national category itself. Episode 42: Proudly Non-Alcoholic with Jeff Stevens In this episode of the Sober Vibes Podcast, Courtney Andersen chats with Jeff Stevens, founder of WellBeing Brewing Company. Jeff shares about his Sobriety and how he ended up creating WellBeing Brewing Company in his journey. Jeff Stevens, founder of Wellbeing Brewing, and a Non-Alcoholic. Years ago, he quit drinking alcohol. It was pretty obvious that booze and he were never going to have a successful relationship at that moment of clarity. However, from almost the beginning, Jeff still went out to bars. He loved listening to live music and was working in the music, beer, and spirits marketing industry. He was out a lot and constantly surrounded by alcohol. Jeff drank NA beer. It saved him in many ways, and it allowed me to participate fully in fun and stay sober. Fast forward to today, and an entire explosion of craft brewing has transformed the beer industry, and yet, for him, NA beer is still pretty much what it once was: not that great. The world has passed it by until now. Jeff and his wife created Wellbeing Brewing Company®, the country’s very first brewery solely dedicated to brewing Non-Alcoholic Craft Beer. Work happy hours. Lunch at a brewery. Holiday parties. Dinner with friends. Imagine each of these scenarios. Now picture them without any alcohol. It's nearly impossible, right? For those who partake in the occasional drink, having fun often seems to go hand-in-hand with alcohol — and it can be pretty exclusionary for those who don't drink for one reason or another. Jeff Stevens, founder of the WellBeing Brewing Company, is working to change that. Jeff spent years marketing top beer brands before founding WellBeing Brewing in 2017. The company is the first craft brewery in the country dedicated to brewing non-alcoholic beer. Jeff has been in recovery from the age of 24. As a self-described “non-alcoholic,” Wellbeing Brewing scratched his own itch. But he's realized there are many different people who want a great-tasting beverage without alcohol. “There are lots of people who don't drink. There are lots of people who aren't drinking at a particular time — that particular night, this particular round — and to have some thoughtful beverages for them just makes complete sense,” Jeff says on this episode of The Empowered Challenger. To create appealing non-alcoholic options that look and sound cool, Jeff was inspired by the “fun, funky aesthetic” on Cherokee Street in St. Louis. Bold names for beverages — like its dark amber beverage “Hellraiser” — add to the appeal. Jeff has also worked hard to ensure the drinks actually taste good — not so easy for non-alcoholic beers. He says, “We all want to try something better than O'Doul's.” Prentice's Takeaway

"We do something no one else in the country does." WellBeing Brewing Company has, by any measure, the most success in their first year of any St. Louis brewery ever. They're in 26 states, part of dozens of festivals around the country, and are adding customers by the minute. They've created some of the most unique beers in their industry, including ones you can drink at work, at home, or on the road. That's because there's more alcohol in a banana than there is in a WellBeing beer. The first non-alcoholic craft brewery, WellBeing is becoming well-known thanks to Dry January, but they've been growing for more than a year now. Drinkers and non-drinkers alike are picking up WellBeing across the country, and the care they put into making the best beer you've ever tasted. Brand manager Tom Halaska sat down with Meet St. Louis to tell the story of what makes WellBeing so different, why he quit drinking, and why more people than ever are reaching for non-alcoholic beer. Sit back, plug in, and enjoy!
