I am upping the ante on REAL conversations as I sit down with my close friends, Jill Osur and Lisa Orrell. Jill and Lisa's not-so-random meeting led to a partnership that's as dynamic as it is loving. Their relationship teaches and challenges me and our open-hearted talks underscore the power of honest friendships - the kind in which we can show up authentically while paving the way to a more equitable world. We unpack my once narrow, and sadly, homophobic perspective and how it has expanded in large part due to conversations with LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones. This conversation offers further proof that our lived experience and personal story can change minds when we share our truest selves with others. I also love our discussion on the gift of Gen Z - the next wave of humans who are pretty perplexed by older generations' use of societal labels and our tendency toward categorizing human souls. Hearing the Hilinski's bring their story to the athletes at her school, she was able to realize that it's OK to not be OK even if you can't figure it out. On this episode of United, Harley shares her story of reaching out for help and receiving the support she needed.
Locked On Gamecocks - Daily Podcast On South Carolina Gamecocks Football & Basketball
For the first time since Ryan Hilinski in the 2019 season, South Carolina's Football program will likely have a first-time starter at quarterback in LaNorris Sellers. When looking at what Sellers could accomplish in 2024, due to both the talent around him and the individual talent that he possesses, it's fair to say that he could have a better season than quarterbacks like Stephen Garcia, Connor Shaw, Jake Bentley, and Hilinski. How does LaNorris' situation compare to those quarterbacks? Andrew breaks all of that down PLUS why South Carolina's men's basketball game versus the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday night is an important one, and lastly, why the infield for South Carolina's baseball team could provide plenty of problems for opposing pitchers at the plate this Spring! Paris Hilinski is the niece of Mark and Kym Hilinski. Her rise to professional golf was very fast: she started playing golf when she had just turned 14 and a year later, after her 8th tournament, she qualified for the U.S. Women's Open. During covid she realized she needed to see herself as more than a golfer and more than her performance so she began to build a brand and venture in to the influencer world. She is now the creative director for LA Golf and has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world. On Unit3d she talks about her journey, the importance of seeing yourself as more than your sport, and the difficulties but importance of reaching out for help and support.
In the first women's soccer episode, seniors/roommates Emily Ehlert and Dani Grgas quiz each other with get-to-know-you questions. What are the only 5 jobs Emily knew about as a kid? What kind of dog does Dani demand? What did Emily get a tattoo about? Whose death does Dani want to discuss at Coffee Hound? And what's the name of the podcast they hope to start someday? They also reflect on the serious issue of mental health in college athletics, and how the powerful Tyler Talk event delivered by Hilinski's Hope affected them.
Former Utah AD Chris Hill joins the show to give his thoughts on the college sports scene and all the changes that are happening. Kim Hilinski joins ths show to talk about the Hilinski's hope foundation and much more. Ian is back on X!
During the months of June, July and early August, the Unit3d team is taking a break. They share important messages around healing, finding ways to keep going, and knowing that whatever you are doing to share the message that mental health matters, it makes a difference.
Like many people in Northern California, Tony Lombardi's ancestors emigrated from Italy. He grew up in the area and his friends are the Who's Who of the wine industry. His background in PR and marketing led him to join his pals who founded one of the coveted cult brands of the early 2000s, Kosta Browne. That position paid off in spades as you'll hear in this interview, ultimately leading KB winemaker, Cabell Coursey to join Tony at Lombardi Wines. Tony shares the story of his family's influence and his enviable position in the Sonoma County wine world. Lombardi Wines also provides Tony with the means to support a cause that is close to his heart. He'll share details of Hilinski's Hope and how next year's incredible Seine River Cruise in France will provide an additional fundraising opportunity. You're invited to join them!

Mental health campaigns are important vehicles for raising awareness and breaking down stigma. Sack the Stigma is a collaborative campaign aimed at destigmatizing mental illness among young people, particularly student-athletes. This campaign started at the University of Michigan, but is gaining traction to make appearances at other universities as a team effort with Hilinski's Hope during the College Athlete Mental Health Week in October. Carly Silverstein is a co-founder of Sack the Stigma and her passion for athlete mental health fuels her work to extend the campaign's reach. Olu Oluwatimi is an accomplished football player and this past year as Captain led his team to a Big 10 Championship. He has been very involved in Sack the Stigma since transferring to Michigan. On this episode of Unit3d, Carly and Olu share their passion for supporting others who are struggling and the vision for Sack the Stigma in the future.

Scott Boras, Juan Soto's agent said today that Soto is only going to a team who's owner is dedicated to winning. A comment like that will cause most Mariners fans to snarkily declare that this immediately disqualifies the Mariners, but remember what Jerry Dipoto said at the beginning of the season. He claimed that the team has the payroll flexibility to make moves to get players to win when the time comes. Could this be the moment the M's actually make some trades and spend some money? We've spent a ton of time this month looking at what conference realignment means for the Dawgs and Cougs, but what about other teams in the Pac-12? Today, we check in with Andy "Dirt" Johnson of Portland's 1080 The Fan to find out how Duck fans are reacting, and what the future might hold for Oregon. On Something Good, Hilinski's Hope has launched an online course for student athletes to help educate them on mental health.

Change the narrative by starting to change the language around suicide. TME is re-releasing this important conversation. The Hilinski's Hope Foundation (H3H) was created in 2018 to honor the life of Tyler Hilinski, a starting quarterback at Washington State University who died by suicide January 16, 2018. With the COVID19 pandemic, social injustices, and lack of support from many stakeholders, educators are feeling burned out, more than ever before. In this episode, we will focus on teacher burnout and discuss how we arrived here, how to cope with it, opportunities outside the classroom, and how skills transfer to other positions, if teachers are at their wits end. Recently, there has been an increased public focus on mental health (Hilinski's Hope, veteran suicide, NaomiOsaka, Calvin Ridley, et al.). Educator's mental health must also be discussed and nurtured.
Dr. Josh King welcomes you to another episode and a new season of The Beyond Addiction Show. As the football season starts, each week hordes of people sit and watch the players get to the field and perform amazing feats of physical strength and ability, but how often do people stop and think about the toll that this has on their mental health? Is their mental health considered at all? Are we paying enough attention to the emotional well-being of our athletes? Today, Dr. King is accompanied by Mark Hilinski whose son, Tyler, a college quarterback, took his own life. Mark is sharing in today's episode his efforts in trying to bring athletes' mental health to the center of the scene. He talks about the foundation they set up in Tyler's memory and the work they are doing to raise awareness of athletes' mental health. Key Takeaways: [1:58] Mark shares about Hilinski's Hope Foundation. [5:25] Mark explains why he does not use the expression “committed suicide” anymore. [6:55] We have to allow each other to ask for and receive help. [8:50] Mark talks about the pressure his son was feeling as a college quarterback. [11:30] Everyone needs to know that depression and anxiety are treatable. [12:55] Mark talks about Tyler. [20:41] What is your image of mental illness? [22:59] Mental health problems are much more prevalent than we think. [24:28] Mark shares a memory of when Tyler was in junior high school. [27:50] Athletes are at particular risk to develop mental health issues as a result of the pressure put on them and also for really struggling to ask for support due to the stigma around it. [29:32] Many athletes and coaches do not really understand mental health. [32:05] Our athletes need a supportive community. [33:07] What message does Mark want to share with other parents? Follow your gut instinct. [36:03] It is not about mental health; it is just about health. [38:00] Mark talks about Simone Biles and her healthy and courageous decision during the Olympics. [39:30] Mark talks about H3H work on campus. [43:48] H3H is a program that does not require any new resources and intends to help as many people as possible. [46:40] H3H provides tools to help someone going through depression and anxiety. [50:19] Mark and Dr. King talk about how important the campaign was to raise awareness about breast cancer and how H3H is trying to follow the same steps. [52:19] Mark shares the results of research about children and adolescents who survive suicide attempts: Kids don‘t want to die, they can't stand the pain they are in.
