This week on Chill Filtered, Cole and Bryan open up a bottle sent over by their YouTube pals from the Hello Again Whiskey Friends channel: a Silver Springs Sweet Rye 8-Year Single Barrel pick. Before diving into the glass, the boys discuss Cole's high-stakes, upcoming mission to track down a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23-Year. Will the whiskey gods smile upon him, or is he heading for heartbreak? Cole also shares a look into the history behind the Silver Springs brand, breaking down its roots and legacy. On Whiskey World News, Bryan reads about an incredibly eccentric new release out of Islay. Bruichladdich has officially launched Yellow Submarine III (also known as the Yellow Submarine [Reclassified]), continuing their legendary, tongue-in-cheek "Whisky of Mass Distinction" series inspired by the actual Ministry of Defence submersible found off their coast. And for “What Whiskey Would You Choose?”, the boys debate a massive retail price check on a legendary bottle name: Would you pull the trigger on the new Wild Turkey Gold Foil Edition if you saw it on the shelf for $400 plus tax? A friend's rye pick, the ultimate Pappy hunt, and a high-dollar Turkey debate—pour a dramatic dram and join us!
Send us Fan MailAre we headed for a “wild ride” this year, or just the usual chaos with a new label? We kick things off from our hidden studio in Southern Illinois with the kind of talk everyone can relate to: spring weather that can't make up its mind. Then we zoom out to the big climate headline driving the conversation, as NOAA signals the La Nina pattern has ended and El Nino may develop later this year. We unpack what that shift can mean in real terms, including the possibility of a stronger warming pattern, hotter seasons, and ripple effects that could shape hurricane season in both the Atlantic and Pacific. After that, we run a fast, listener-friendly “weather around the world” check. You'll hear current conditions like humidity, wind, pressure, and air quality from places like Phoenix, Spokane, Australia, and a surprise stop in Beijing. That Beijing report hits differently, with unhealthy air quality and low visibility that make you appreciate clean air in a new way. We also drop our seven-day earthquake report with totals across magnitudes, call out a notable 5.7 near Silver Springs, Nevada, and share why even a “low week” still deserves attention. Then we pivot into space weather: a coronal hole facing Earth could send high-speed solar wind our way with potential G2 geomagnetic storms, lining up with dark new-moon skies for aurora viewing. We even shout out a photo that captures Starlink satellites in the same frame, raising a real question about how much is too much. We wrap with a Supreme Court ruling on internet providers and piracy, plus ways to support the show. As the host and creator of numerous hit culture podcasts, Sam Sanders is known for having a finger on the pulse of pop culture. But growing up strictly Pentecostal in Texas, non-religious music was forbidden – so Sam got resourceful, smuggling CDs into the house in his underwear and watching MTV in secret. At 18 years old, just as he was getting ready to leave for Stanford, Sam's life was turned upside down. Both of his parents suffered major health crises in the span of a few months, resulting in Sam becoming their caregiver. Years later, Sam would face another devastating double-whammy with the death of his mother followed a month later by a crushing breakup. In this episode, Sam opens up about the music that carried him through – from Janet Jackson videos to soaring gospel tunes to revenge-fueled breakup anthems – and why today, he's savoring the freedom he's been chasing his whole life. Here are his songs. Janet Jackson, “Love Will Never Do (Without You)” Stevie Wonder, "Don't You Worry ‘Bout A Thing" Richard Smallwood, "Total Praise" John Mayer, “Stop This Train" Labelle, "Isn't It a Shame" Caroline Rose, “The Kiss” Fleetwood Mac, “Silver Springs”

Stevie and Lindsey's passionate love-hate affair spans nearly five decades, starting way back in highschool. We take you through the first several decades of Stevie and Lindsey's relationship, through their Buckingham Nicks days to joining Fleetwood Mac, to both eventually quitting the band by the start of the ‘90s. Yo this was a Patreon episode recorded with Justin Corwin a few days after the new Bright Eyes record. Now seems like a fine time to share it in this feed. Enjoy. Justin and I talk about the singles compared to the rest of the record, songs we like most and least, The National, Elon Musk in virgin whites, Cat Power, the Alex Orange Drink discourse, Bright Eyes and friendship, Mogis/Nate Walcott, Down in the Weeds, movie-dialogue motif, actually Scorsese is good and Frank Sinatra sucks, Phoebe Bridgers, Real Feel 105, Stevie Nicks singing “Silver Springs,” Conor Oberst live-show discourse, “Tin Soldier Boy” makes me want to run through a wall (positive), The Fader reporter showing Conor negative Reddit threads lol, a very titillating question about 311, and we predict the Pitchfork score. -- Subscribe on Patreon and I'll mail you a zine: https://www.patreon.com/afterthedeluge Here's Justin Corwin's YouTube channel, The Deep Dive: https://www.youtube.com/@THEDEEPDIVE --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/afterthedeluge/support

This week on Name 3 Songs we're joined by special guest Sofia Loporcaro from Before the Chorus podcast. (PS Find Name 3 Songs on a special episode of Before the Chorus!) Sofia weighs in on this week's hot topics including… ⚡ Fangirl Nonsense: We can't stop thinking about Fleetwood Mac's 1997 performance of “Silver Springs” with Stevie Nicks putting a hex on Lindsey Buckingham. 2007 Hot Topic core is apparently well and alive thanks to Jake Webber and Johnnie Gilbert and they're bringing big internet names like Trisha Paytas and Hasan Piker with them on their missed to make emo mainstream again. Lastly, we're obsessed with Zendaya being obsessed with Tom Holland in every interview for Dune 2. ⚡ The announcement of Beyonce's country album is already showing a positive impact for black female country artists who saw a significant increase in streams since her announcement. ⚡ Taylor Swift announced a special edition vinyl of Tortured Poet's Department with one bonus track “The Albatross” that is only available on the vinyl print. While Taylor Swift is not the only mega star making special edition physical albums, it does bring up questions of capitalism and overconsumption. At the same time, mega stars producing vinyl is creating a hurdle for mid- and small-tier artists to be able to print their own vinyl. We explore the widening gap between these mega artists and the “middle class” of musicians. ⚡ Charli XCX seems to be painting herself as the “tortured pop artist” amid marketing campaigns leading up to her 6th studio album. We look at Charli's history of being the anti-pop popstar while trying to hold onto mainstream fame. We also explore the pattern of major label artists complaining about having to market themselves, particularly as it comes to using TikTok. Enjoy this episode?
