Prepare for a sonic assault on your ears as Jason Gore and Geoff Garlock unleash the ultimate countdown of the WORST classic rock covers ever conceived! Broadcasting LIVE from the sometimes-adjacent-to Seabirds Burritos (long story…), Jason and Geoff serve up two-for-one burrito deals alongside a heaping helping of musical travesties. This episode is a wild ride of hot takes, bizarre tangents, and enough cringe-worthy covers to make you question the very fabric of reality.Weezer's Double Dose of Disaster: Jason and Geoff dissecttwo Weezer covers that should have been confined to a dusty demo tape. Why covering Toto is a cardinal sin, why Rivers Cuomo needs to stay in his lane, and why Jason's Weezer back tattoo is a constant source of embarrassment. The Gunt Brothers' Polka-fied "It's Been A While": This Staind cover gets a bizarre polka makeover. Is it ironic? Is it awful? It's definitely…something.AC/DC's Bass-Less "Big Bottom": Angus Young's duck walk can't save this cover from its fundamental lack of bass. fWotD Episode 2539: Rumours (album) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Wednesday, 17 April 2024 is Rumours (album).Rumours is the eleventh studio album by the British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 4 February 1977 in the United States and on 11 February 1977 in the United Kingdom by Warner Bros. Records. Largely recorded in California in 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut. The recording sessions took place in the aftermath of several relationship breakups among the band members in addition to heavy drug use, both of which shaped the album's direction and lyrics.Recorded with the intention of making "a pop album" that would expand on the commercial success of the 1975 album Fleetwood Mac, the music of Rumours is characterized by a mix of electric and acoustic instrumentation, accented rhythms, guitars, and keyboards, while its lyrics concern personal and often troubled relationships. Its release was postponed by delays in the mixing process. Following the album’s release, Fleetwood Mac undertook worldwide concert tours in support of it. Rumours became the band's first number-one album on the UK Albums Chart and also topped the US Billboard 200. The songs "Go Your Own Way", "Dreams", "Don't Stop", and "You Make Loving Fun" were released as singles, all of which reached the US Top 10, with "Dreams" reaching number one.Rumours was a commercial success, selling 13 million copies worldwide by 1980. It garnered widespread acclaim from critics, with praise centred on its production quality and vocal harmonies, which frequently relied on the interplay among the band's three vocalists, and which has subsequently inspired the work of musical acts in various genres. It won Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards and received Diamond certifications in several countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US, in where it is certified 21× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). As of February 2023, Rumours has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.Often considered Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus, Rumours has frequently been cited as one of the greatest albums of all time. This week on Name 3 Songs we're joined by special guest Sofia Loporcaro from Before the Chorus podcast. (PS Find Name 3 Songs on a special episode of Before the Chorus!) Sofia weighs in on this week's hot topics including… ⚡ Fangirl Nonsense: We can't stop thinking about Fleetwood Mac's 1997 performance of “Silver Springs” with Stevie Nicks putting a hex on Lindsey Buckingham. 2007 Hot Topic core is apparently well and alive thanks to Jake Webber and Johnnie Gilbert and they're bringing big internet names like Trisha Paytas and Hasan Piker with them on their missed to make emo mainstream again. Lastly, we're obsessed with Zendaya being obsessed with Tom Holland in every interview for Dune 2.  ⚡ The announcement of Beyonce's country album is already showing a positive impact for black female country artists who saw a significant increase in streams since her announcement.   ⚡ Taylor Swift announced a special edition vinyl of Tortured Poet's Department with one bonus track “The Albatross” that is only available on the vinyl print. While Taylor Swift is not the only mega star making special edition physical albums, it does bring up questions of capitalism and overconsumption. At the same time, mega stars producing vinyl is creating a hurdle for mid- and small-tier artists to be able to print their own vinyl. We explore the widening gap between these mega artists and the “middle class” of musicians.  ⚡ Charli XCX seems to be painting herself as the “tortured pop artist” amid marketing campaigns leading up to her 6th studio album. We look at Charli's history of being the anti-pop popstar while trying to hold onto mainstream fame. We also explore the pattern of major label artists complaining about having to market themselves, particularly as it comes to using TikTok.  Enjoy this episode? Born in America, raised in Silver Springs, Maryland, Rabbi Dov Lipman loves the land of his birth. But the call from Israel, his spiritual home, was so great that he renounced his citizenship after winning a seat in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. The first American born MK in thirty years. He experienced what is known as Aliyah, the Hebrew word meaning rising, ascending, or exalted. It's the word used for Jews making the pilgrimage to Israel. Lipman explains, "There was a moment on a visit to Israel in 2003 where I just felt we have the opportunity to raise our family in the Jewish state. Why not take advantage of that blessing from God to be part of that? And it was the best decision we ever could have made." It was because of his dual life that Lipman was able to create Yad L'Olim, an organization that helps Jewish immigrants from all over the world on Aliyah, navigate the complex bureaucracies of moving to Israel. With the war in Ukraine, Yad L'Olim opened "a special division to provide guidance to tens of thousands of Olim expected to arrive in Israel affected by the war in Ukraine." On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, recorded at the National Religious Broadcasters convention, Rabbi Lipman talks about how he came to love Israel his home, and still adore America, the place that gave him life.
