Hosts Chris Cottrell and Morgan Twain-Peterson MW talk shop with growers, winemakers, and more from their corner of the California wine world.
The Bedrock Wine Conversations podcast, hosted by Chris and Morgan, is an absolute gem for wine enthusiasts. This podcast strikes a perfect balance between educating listeners about wine while also promoting their own wines and those of their friends. One of the standout features of this show is Morgan's insightful discussions on California's historic vineyards. His knowledge and passion for the subject are truly captivating, and it has led me to seek out wines from not only Bedrock but also other winemakers like Carlisle to compare the vineyard character.
One of the best aspects of The Bedrock Wine Conversations podcast is its ability to remove the snobbery often associated with wine. Chris and Morgan make wine accessible to all listeners by presenting their discussions in an engaging and down-to-earth manner. Their enthusiasm and friendly nature shine through, creating an inviting atmosphere for wine novices and experts alike. Additionally, they frequently bring on guests with fascinating stories, adding depth to each episode. It's evident that these two hosts have a genuine love for what they do, which makes for incredibly enjoyable listening.
While it's challenging to find any major flaws in this podcast, one minor downside is that it can occasionally become overly technical or detailed for casual listeners. Some episodes may delve into deep wine geekery, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. However, this is a small critique considering the overall value that this podcast provides.
In conclusion, The Bedrock Wine Conversations podcast is a fantastic series that offers a wealth of knowledge about wine in an approachable way. Chris and Morgan's expertise combined with their passion create an educational experience that any wine lover will appreciate. Whether you're interested in learning about California's historic vineyards or simply want to enjoy some entertaining conversations about wine, this podcast is mandatory listening. With their dedication and charm, it wouldn't be surprising if Chris and Morgan become pillars of the California wine industry in the coming years. In my opinion, The Bedrock Wine Conversations podcast is easily one of the top five wineries in the U.S., and its contributions to the wine conversation scene are greatly appreciated.

On Part Two of our interview with Stu Bewley of Alder Springs vineyard, we learn how Stu was inspired to carve Alder Springs vineyard out of northern Mendocino wilderness after passing on a vineyard known as To Kalon (yes, THAT To Kalon). He shares what it is like to farm grapes in the wilds of Mendocino bear country with zero infrastructure and with environmental conservation in mind. Much like the Under The Wire project itself, Stu's undertaking on the ridges west of Laytonville has no domestic historic precedent and has been filled with learnings, challenges and, happily, some great successes
