Today, my guest is Koliah Fuzzy Jardine. Fuzzy, as he's known, is the co-founder of HUI Mastermind. They empower Native Hawaiians and locals to build generational wealth through real estate investing in their homeland, the Pono Way. And in just a minute, we're going to speak with Fuzzy Jardine about his journey from prison to real estate investor. https://www.instagram.com/hifuzz/
J Darrin Gross I'd like to ask you, Fuzzy Jardine, what is the BIGGEST RISK? Fuzzy Jardine Well, in the development space, and without what I'm doing today in the Hawaii market, it's one of the most expensive markets. Is the biggest risk is, I think not keep doing what I'm doing, right, investing in real estate, because it's only going to go like it's only going to go up, right? So, if you sit on the sidelines and waiting for the interest rates to drop, then it's going to be too late by the time you get started, you can keep waiting, waiting, waiting. So, I think that's one of the things for me, as a developer, the biggest risk is, you know, listening to the chatter outside, like I'm focusing on, I know what I do best, I know where I need to be buying in at, and I know what my building costs, you know, is that how much. Well, it, it costs, and then I know my end results. So, the, my biggest, the risk will be not to keep doing what I'm doing. https://www.instagram.com/hifuzz/
In this episode, Candice sits down with Kolaiah "Fuzzy" Jardine, a former federal inmate turned multimillion-dollar real estate investor and co-founder of the Hui Mastermind. Fuzzy shares his deeply personal journey from addiction, prison, and hopelessness to building generational wealth for his family and helping others create financial freedom through real estate investing in Hawaii. In this episode, they discuss: How Fuzzy's prison sentence became the turning point that changed his life The books and mentors that helped reshape his mindset and future Why your environment and circle of influence matter so much How he built a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio starting with no money What it means to invest the “pono way” and serve the community ethically The realities of housing challenges in Hawaii and creating generational wealth Why asking for help is one of the strongest things you can do No matter where you are starting from, this episode is a reminder that it is never too late to rewrite your story, rediscover your purpose, and create new possibilities for your future. He uniquely teaches investing using Other People's Money and Time (OPM/OPT), making complex strategies accessible. Fuzzy's journey began from growing up with nothing, leading to addiction, drug dealing, and federal prison. His pivotal turning point came during incarceration, igniting his pursuit of real estate investing as a path to freedom and legacy. Hotel developments are quietly disappearing and 'ghost communities' are on the rise as Christchurch's council has raised concerns over Airbnbs. Four motel and hotel operators urged elected members at a policy and planning committee meeting to support a mandatory registration system for short term accommodation providers. Councillor Nathaniel Herz Jardine wants Christchurch to take charge in rallying other councils to demand change. "All we ask for is...we need the data. It's not saying we want to ban them, it's not saying anything like that. It's just saying, at the moment, we're in this crazy situation where we're hiring compliance officers - they have to do stake outs and surfing online and fielding complaints about who's renting out what." In This Episode Success is not determined by where you start—it is shaped by the systems you build and the choices you make along the way. In this episode, Adi Klevit interviews Kolaiah "Fuzzy" Jardine, co-founder of The HUI Real Estate Mastermind, about his powerful journey from adversity to building a scalable real estate business. Fuzzy shares how a shift in mindset during a difficult period of his life set him on a path toward entrepreneurship and long-term success. Adi and Fuzzy explore the early stages of rebuilding, where persistence, multiple jobs, and a strong "why" helped him regain stability. His introduction to real estate investing became a turning point, allowing him to move beyond trading time for money and begin building systems that generate ongoing income. The conversation highlights a critical systems principle: scalability requires structure. Fuzzy explains how documenting processes, creating repeatable workflows, and building the right team allowed his business to grow while operating independently. Today, his systems enable him to develop properties, manage rentals, and coach others—all without being involved in every detail.

In this episode, we sit down with Kolaiah "Fuzzy" Jardine, a Hawaii-based real estate investor, developer, and co-founder of the HUI Mastermind who went from federal prison to building a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio focused on affordable housing. Send a textThis week, Ed welcomes Hawaii-based real estate developer and educator Fuzzy Jardine to Real Estate Underground. Fuzzy shares his background growing up in Hawaii, getting into trouble with drugs and alcohol, going to prison, and using that time to educate himself with books like Rich Dad Poor Dad. After struggling to find work as an ex-con, he took multiple jobs, then invested $26,000 in real estate education after hearing about Fortune Builders, and learned to find deals through strategies like bandit signs and Craigslist ads. He explains how taking action led him from deal-finding to partnering with a local developer and eventually building 100+ affordable homes for local families on a more rural island, typically priced around $300K–$425K. Fuzzy talks about “The Pono Way,” emphasizing respectful, ethical investing, illustrated by a deal where a distressed homeowner was helped with housing, a car, and additional funds while the investors still profited. He also describes co-founding the Hui Mastermind with Asha Smith, including webinars, bus tours showing the full build process, meetups, and master classes teaching how to get started in real estate and fund deals without traditional bank financing. In a lightning round, Fuzzy says family is his main purpose, shares advice about being on time and owning mistakes quickly, reflects on saying yes too often and taking responsibility for a project headed toward a loss, and names motivators he follows on YouTube and podcasts. The conversation also touches on the metaphor of penguins as a symbol for change and the necessity for lawyers to embrace new practices to thrive in a competitive market.About ShaunShaun Jardine is an international keynote speaker, consultant, and non-practising solicitor, and a former CEO of a Top 250 UK law firm. Support the show
