He opens up about the challenges he faced towards the end of his school life and how surfing and storytelling became his way through. Most people know Macario from Bra Boys, the landmark Australian surf documentary that put Maroubra on the map and introduced him to working alongside Russell Crowe. That film changed the trajectory of his life and sparked a career built on telling stories that matter. We also get into Fighting Fear, his deeply personal documentary that saw him confront his own mental health challenges head on. It's a film that took real courage to make, and Macario speaks about that journey with total honesty. But the heart of this conversation is his new film, In Pieces Together. The film tells the story of Blake Johnston's world record surf — and the story running alongside it about Blake's dad, his battle with mental health, and his death by suicide. It is one of the most important surf films ever made, and talking with Macario about why he felt compelled to tell this story was something I won't forget in a hurry. This one is for anyone who has ever lost someone, loved someone who is struggling, or believes that storytelling has the power to change lives. In this episode we cover:Growing up in Maroubra and the Bra Boys cultureThe challenges he faced at the end of his school lifeMaking Bra Boys and working with Russell CroweHow filmmaking became his path forwardFighting Fear and his own mental health journeyIn Pieces Together — Blake Johnston's world record surfBlake's dad, his mental health battle and his death by suicideWhy this film matters and the lives it could changeIf this episode brought something up for you:

No llevaba arma. No sabe si alguna vez podrá decirlo. In this episode of the That's Just Good Podcast, we sit down with Macario Robles, founder and owner of DTX Barbers, to explore how a barber chair can become one of the most powerful places for connection, leadership, and impact. Macario shares how his work as a barber goes far beyond a service. It's about building trust, creating space for conversation, and showing up consistently for the people in his community. We talk about how everyday environments can become platforms for influence, mentorship, and opportunity. As the founder of DTX Barbers, Macario has created more than a business. He's built a space where culture, community, and purpose come together, one conversation at a time. This conversation is a reminder that impact doesn't always start in boardrooms. Sometimes, it starts in places where relationships are built and consistency creates trust. If you're looking to understand how to lead where you are, use your platform with intention, and create meaningful impact in your community, this episode is for you.

My friend, John Macario, returns to the show and we pick up right where we left off back in late 2024 when he first shared his amazing story. It's been 19 months since John lost the love of his life and fellow Deadhead, Meg, at age 52 to complications following a liver transplant. We catch up on how he and their 12-year old daughter, Gloria, are doing facing the world together as the dynamic duo. John shares how single parenting is going, and how every now and again he gets out to fuel his soul with live music, including the likes of Bulgarina-American pianist, Kristina Marinova. Marinova's recent solo release, The Bus Came By and I Got On, is unlike any Grateful Dead music that I have ever heard before and is a must-listen.In honor of our beloved Bobby “Ace” Weir, John insists that we tune into NPR's Tiny Desk with Bob Weir & Wold Brothers, where Mikaela Davis sits in on harp. Their rendition of Birdsong is simply magical and instantly transports the listener with its first few notes. We wrap up with John's story of Gloria's early love of Jerry Garcia, and how at just 5 years old she became attached to Jerry Garcia Band's 1980 rendition of After Midnight. “More Jerry, Dad!” How cool is THAT, I mean really. Finally, John reveals for the first time how he got the nickname I never knew even existed - “Spiff”!Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us!Morning Dew / Kristina MarinovaSmells Like Teen Spirit / NirvanaPlease Don't Bury Me / John Prine Birdsong / Wolf BrosI Know You Rider / Grateful DeadAfter Midnight / JGBhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1983015048745357

Catarina Macario and Jaedyn Shaw powered the USWNT to a 2-0 win over Italy, sealing a fourth straight victory to close out 2025. Darian Jenkins, Lori Lindsey and McCall Zerboni break down the result and what it tells us about where Emma Hayes' squad is headed. The crew digs into the team's strongest emerging partnerships and how Hayes' expanded player pool is reshaping the depth chart. Claire Hutton and Olivia Moultrie earn special praise, while Kate Wiesner impresses in her first senior call-up. And of course, the ladies wax poetic about Cat Macario and how the Chelsea star has quelled the Triple Espresso chatter with recent performances. The crew also tackle the puzzling omission of Emily Sonnett from U.S. Soccer's Female Player of the Year nominees. And finally, they tie a bow on the USWNT's 2025, from memorable moments to the storylines that will carry into the new year.
Macario has been in the Messianic Jewish Faith since he was three years old. He attended Wharton County Junior College and then Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he led a Bible-Study teaching people about the Torah and how Yeshua lived. Macario received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics. Currently Macario attends Congregation Beth Messiah (CBM) in Houston, Tx where he is one of three Directors for their online services, one of their stage Lighting Technicians, and is an active volunteer in other areas as well. Macario will dance in the CBM Men's Dance Team for this year's upcoming Passover Sedar hosted by CBM as he done for the past few years. He also serves as an Aide/Chaperone for CBM's Youth Group and is a part of CBM's College & Career group. Macario is excited to see how else God intends to use him in the future.
Welcome back to The Switch! This one's about bearing fruit—even when no one's picking it. We kick it off with the story of Macario Martinez, a street sweeper turned viral musician. Everybody sees the blow-up... nobody saw the years of showing up.Switch-it-up Steps:The Tree Was Always There:Macario was posting, creating, working—and nobody was stopping by his “tree.” But the fruit was there. That one night, someone picked it—and everything changed. The Only Thing You Can Control is the Song:You don't control who shares it, likes it, or goes viral. You control the work. That's it. Same with this podcast, same with any creative project.Don't Let Your Fruit Rot:If you have talent, if you've got something inside—you have to express it. We talked about how buying fruit and letting it sit til it goes bad is just like letting your gift rot. If you don't use it, it's wasted.I Gave Up Before:Oscar opens up about how he stopped before—subconsciously thinking “what's the point?” But now? He's back. New season, new commitment to showing up and sharing the fruit.Overnight Doesn't Mean Easy:We get into Macario's so-called “overnight success” and how fast rise can mean fast fall. One-hit-wonder bands, viral moments, the whole thing. You have to build the roots, not just chase the spotlight.Be the Connector:Eric shares a moment from that day—how he helped connect someone to the right person. That's what it takes. Somebody shared Macario's video. Someone connected the dots. Who are you helping shine today?Gratitude + The Share:As always, we close it out with what we're grateful for, and a reminder:Share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Be the one who picks the fruit and passes it on.Stay Connected:Catch Eric: @infinitetalkspodCatch Oscar: @happyoscarstudioDon't wait for the perfect moment. Bear fruit anyway. Someone will come by.
