In the most recent ONCOLOGY On the Go hosted in collaboration with the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, Daniel C. McFarland, DO, spoke with Charles S. Kamen, PhD, MPH, about health equity for sexual and gender minority groups in oncology.  Sexual and gender minority groups, who constitute approximately 9.3% of the US population, experience significant and preventable disparities across all stages of the cancer care continuum, according to Kamen.1 He detailed how these inequities are largely driven by minority stress: the chronic psychological and emotional burden resulting from anticipated and experienced prejudice, discrimination, and stigma within health care settings.2 McFarland and Kamen highlighted that a lack of comprehensive sexual and gender minority training in medical education often leaves clinicians feeling unprepared, compounding the patient's anxiety and mistrust. The path to correcting these disparities requires a fundamental shift to cultural humility: the readiness to acknowledge one's own lack of knowledge and learn directly from the patient's lived experience. The most critical, actionable step discussed was the systematic, safe, and affirmative collection of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) data.3 Kamen emphasized that SOGI data is a clinical tool, not just a demographic marker. When collected routinely—ideally non-verbally via intake forms—SOGI data are used to: Ensure Biologically Appropriate Surveillance: Confirming that all necessary cancer screenings are offered based on the patient's existing organs, regardless of current gender identity. Facilitate Relationship-Centered Care: Appropriately recognizing and engaging the patient's partners and chosen family; a critical component of sexual and gender minority support networks. Tailored Psychosocial Navigation: Moving beyond a general "disparities mindset" to an "equity mindset" by using SOGI data to connect patients with LGBTQ-specific psychosocial resources that directly address discrimination-related distress drivers. McFarland is the director of the Psycho-Oncology Program at Wilmot Cancer Center and a medical oncologist who specializes in head, neck, and lung cancer, in addition to being the psycho-oncology editorial advisory board member for the journal ONCOLOGY. Kamen is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Cancer Control (SMD) and holds joint appointments as an associate professor at the Center for Community Health and Prevention and the Department of Psychiatry (SMD) at the University of Rochester Medical Center.  References 1.        Jones JM. Mit den Vertragsverlängerungen von Valtteri Kemiläinen und Gregor MacLeod bleiben die Grundpfeiler in Verteidigund und Angriff für – mindestens – zwei weitere Jahre bei den Haien. Da es so aktuell ist starten wir dieses Mal ungewöhnlich direkt mit dem O-Ton von MacLeod in den Sharkbite. Letzte Woche in der Saisondrittelanalyse hatten wir noch drüber philosophiert.Was passiert jetzt eigentlich am 24.12? Diese Frage stellten wir uns selbst und auch Ihr uns relativ häufig. Das warten wir jetzt mal ab. Die Verlängerung der beiden ist auf jeden Fall ein Zeichen für die kommenden Jahre.Auch in dieser Saison wollen wir mit Euch mehr in Kontakt kommen. Unser Meet and Talk wird zu einem „Meet and Watch“, denn wir schauen ein Eishockeyspiel zusammen. Dazu wird es auch in dieser Saison unsere Reise zu einem DEL2 Spiel geben. Der Absteiger und Koop der Haie empfängt den EV Landshut unter dem alten Haie-Headcoach.Heute mal etwas früher im Ablauf: der aktuelle Stand im Tippspiel. Es bleibt spannend. Ein Drittel der Saison ist vorbei – ok plus Bonusfragen und Playoffs noch fehlend – und die erweiterte Spitzengruppe ist noch sehr groß.Der Blick auf die Jugend und die Damenteams des KEC. Die Ergebnisse jetzt schon etwas veraltet, aber das nächste Wochenende steht schon vor der Tür und am Sonntag kann man uns auch wieder in der KA2 antreffen. Zumindest – ob der späten Bullyzeit – für einen Teil der U17 Partie.Neue Spieler, neue Trainer, neue Verletzte. So kann man die Cuppause in der DEL kurz zusammenfassen. Wir sprechen vor allem über die Trainer, die damit jetzt nicht mehr für die Haie in Frage kommen. Autour de ses deux premiers ouvrages : «Lisières» et «L'écho du Lac», mêlant voyage et érudition, poésie et immersion, sillonnant ses terres natales à chaque fois, dans les Balkans. Et après «Elixir», son troisième opus placé dans la vallée reculée de la Mesta, voilà Kapka partie à la rencontre des derniers éleveurs nomades des Monts du Pirin, en Bulgarie, situés non loin de la Mesta… Dans «Anima», ce quatrième récit entre éloge et élégie du monde pastoral, on croise un peuple nomade millénaire «les Karakachans», Kamen, l'homme au nom de pierre, Sasho, «le berger aux yeux décolorés par la tristesse et l'alcool», Marina, la biologiste qui appelle les loups, les plus vieux moutons du monde, des chiens de garde nobles et résistants et des paysages de montagne qui vous étreignent et vous retiennent.  Anima, c'est l'âme en latin. La racine du mot « animal » aussi, soit tout être qui respire, doué d'une âme, de vie. Ce qui renvoie à l'animisme bien sûr. Les nomades karakachans l'appelaient « psyché ». Elle leur apparaissait sous forme de souffle, de brume ou de vent. Et c'est ce souffle du vivant, la force du lien entre humains et non-humains, que vient capter Kapka sur près de cinq cents pages, au moyen d'un récit puissant, à l'occasion d'une estive parmi six cents moutons, en immersion ; car comme le dit Kapka «ce ne sont pas les grandes idées qui changent le monde mais l'expérience et le vécu des lieux et des gens…». Ainsi, après pas mal de temps passé là-haut, Kapka Kassabova est finalement redescendue pour se faire l'émissaire, à sa manière, de ce monde âpre et en sursis, au bord de la disparition, qui vit encore en harmonie dans ce grand cycle de la nature…  Transhumance sonore et littéraire avec une grande écrivaine de la nature qui nous invite à repenser notre rapport au vivant et au monde finalement.   À lire :  - «Anima», de Kapka Kassabova.
