Growing up in the black church I would often hear about generational curses and breaking generational curses. For so long I believed it was something that I simply had no control over. I started to experience generational curses first hand that my family spoke of and I thought it was inevitable for these things to occur in my life. It wasn't until I started to travel the country playing basketball and being exposed to different ways of life that I began to notice that the difference was a collection of habits that my family didn't necessarily practice. Habits that created room for blessings to come in. A generational curse was a mindset that we passed down of trauma for generations because no one made the choice to create new habits that would take us from generational curses to generational blessings. In this episode, Nate explains how to break generational curses and how generational habits will create generational blessings. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Jordan Rules were implemented in the NBA by the Detroit Pistons (Bad Boys) as a way to shut down Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. This was an instrumental aspect of the rivalry between the Bad Boys and Jordan. The Jordan Rules was a style of defense that limited players, mainly Jordan from entering the paint to score. This act was usually carried out by future teammate Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer. Despite the frustration that Jordan faced when playing the Bad Boys, he never backed down. Instead, he embraced the challenge and packed on 20lbs of muscle with the guidance of his trainer Tim Grover. Jordan would ultimately come back much stronger, beat the Detroit Pistons, and win a championship. When you say that you want to earn six figures, launch a profitable business, lose 50lbs, have a successful marriage, graduate college, etc... do you really calculate the cost? Many of us have set out on a journey to achieve something that is of high esteem but we have failed to calculate what it would cost us (money, time, comfort, effort, wants, relationships, etc...). Since the start of the U.S. national lockdown due to COVID-19, the talk in the news, media, and socially has been, getting back to normal. It seems as if everyone wants to go back to what was once normal. One would assume that "normal" meant "greatness." However, where people are getting confused is that they really don't want to go back to normal, they want to go back to what was comfortable. They want what was familiar to them. What was once normal for many people would be considered tragic. What was once normal for many people was poverty. What was once normal for many people was obesity, poor health habits, insecurities, and illness. What was once normal was a mediocre life for many people who for some reason want to go back to that. In this episode, Nate challenges every listener to ask themselves, "do you really want to go back to normal?" This question may help you to realize that what you want is a new normal and not what was once normal. Very rarely do we question our GPS when we are on a road trip. We put our destination in, check the time-frame in which we will be traveling, choose the fastest route depending on what it will cost, and then we follow the directions told to us. The interesting thing is that God has a similar system for our purpose. God's positioning system is a feeling of intuition. It's the gut feeling that keeps you on track when you're distracted. However many people question this system because they don't know the exact time-frame of their travels or what it will cost them. There are just too many missing variables and because they lack faith they try to go their own route. In this episode, Nate shares the importance of following God's positioning system and why it always gets you to your destination at the perfect time. All of us have friends whom we assume are strong mentally. On the outside, their life looks well put together. They have a great career, they have what seems to be a great relationship, they look happy, and they very rarely if ever seem to be stressed. From my experience, these are the people you need to check on often. They are usually neglected because the assumption is that they are good. In this episode, Nate shares a story about being the "strong friend" and how most people who are labeled the "strong friends" are more at risk of mental health issues than the people who are vulnerable.
