On a main road at night, Niall Finn, my guest on this episode,  was travelling too fast, possibly over the speeding limit when a car came through a stop sign onto the road in front of him. Last minute he managed to swerve around it but his car tipped over and rolled several times. He was thrown out onto the road from the driver's window and was very lucky to have only minor injuries. Scratches and ripped clothes but not any fractures.A few words about Niall. He was born in Africa, grew up in New Zealand. Worked in France, Germany, Netherlands and Luxembourg as, respectively, tourist guide, English teacher, marketing employee and translator. Today he is living in retirement in Greece, on the beautiful island of Crete. The reason he wants to raise road awareness in because he lives in an area with very bad driving standards like dangerous overtaking, poor use of signals, excessive speed and distacted driving..Listen to Niall experience, he is sharing some very interesting facts and thoughts. What do I do now? with James January

James January  was burned September 1991. He was Branched but not Commissioned, Regular Army, Military Intelligence...a fancy way of saying that he got burned his senior year of college. At age 21, everything he worked for went up in smoke when the vehicle he was driving had some issues, to put it mildly. At one point the braking did not work properly, swerving out of its lane & rather than hit the oncoming car, taking out the family inside, he steered the truck right when it wanted to go left. He remembers reaching through flames to undo the seatbelt as the truck was skidding on its side. The other guy got out quick, it exploded on him before he was able to climb out the passenger side window. He was burned 85-90% most of it full thickness burns every where except where he was wearing shorts and shoes. After a period of struggle, due to both his injuries and a search for something that would challenge him, in the mid 1990's he became involved with the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, specifically its education, prevention and post burn programs. He has immersed himself in anything that deals with burn survivors and their family and friends, anyone who works with burn survivors, and the prevention of burn injury ever since. He believes any program designed to work beyond the hospital doors...anything dealing with the prevention of burn injury, life beyond a burn injury, or getting the patient from living to thriving in spite of a burn injury...functions best with a well trained, highly motivated burn survivor as part of the team. From such foundation, has sprung BurnSurvivor.org"A sot of burn trauma think tank if you will. We work with burn survivors, their family and friends. We work with those who work with burn survivors. We work to prevent burns. We seek to become a resource and networking center for burn survivors, burn care professionals, firefighters, family and friends. Encourage the development of programs that go beyond the operating room. Recruit and train burn survivors to be part of the burn team. Become a resource of support and education."Leave us a review and a rating if you liked the episode then share it with your friends if you think they should listen to our road crash stories.Real stories shared by real people with the hope to motivate our listeners to adapt a safety culture that will keep them and their loved ones, safe. And, if you have a powerful story about road safety that you would like to share, get in touch with me and maybe you will be my next guest.Follow my podcaston Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/lifesurvivor_podcast/on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/AthanasiaHouvardaVisit my webpagehttps://www.athanasiahouvarda.com/aboutFind me on all directories.Apple Podcastshttps://podcasts.apple.com/gr/podcast/crash-victim-life-survivor/id1567072906Google Podcasthttps://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS8xNjIwMjU5LnJzcw?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwibmMyE6JjxAhVagHIEHZyHAH4Q9sEGegQIARACSpotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/26etxqeyOSJkidwErh7JTb?si=1M_UcLyaQ7OYBYqbQML6RQ&dl_branch=1

Tina Ginn, author of the book "wow, woman of worth" with her story  "In the blink of an eye" shares her experience surviving a traumatic road crash 4 years ago very,  when she was driving to get home, very close to her neighbourhood. She was following her daughter that was driving in front of her in her own car and she witnessed the frightening possibility of her daughter almost being crashed. Instead it was her that received the impact. To this day, she says that if her daughter was the one that crashed, the story would be devastating. She sees it as a blessing that it was her car that was hit instead. She takes us through how the accident happened, the very first moments in the ambulance and on her way to the hospital. 4 days later she was back to work, trying to get back to her normal self, with broken ribs, a broken foot and a broken finger. Although in pain, she did try to act like her old self until she realised that she wasn't anymore. She then went off work for 7 months and watched her life transform.Tina has been working on a very interesting project "My back up plan" and I highly reccomend you check it out becasue it can save you and your family from a lot of frustration. The sky was my limit with Athanasia Houvarda

"Before I start I want to share how this idea came to be.. And why I chose this topic for my podcast. For the last 5 years I have been sharing my story of surviving a horrific car accident and the idea of starting a podcast to share my message came up… I loved the idea and here I am today, with my first episode, hoping that I can give voice through my podcast to more people that want to share their powerful stories about the importance of road safety. What I learned through my experience is that It only takes one split second for reality to change, this has been my motto ever since I got severely injured with burns, ever since I watched my life change in a split second. The results though from that crash are even more tragic. On that day I lost two dear friends, a lovely couple, parents of 2 young boys that had to live life without them. Our safety should always be our priority and I learned this the hard way.. I don't want anyone else to lose their loved one or go through what their families and my family went through, so this is the reason behind this podcast and I hope after listening to all the real stories you will feel inspired and motivated to be more aware of the impact a car crash has on our lives. ...and if you have also experienced the impact of a crash and you would like to share your lessons learned.. send me an email and you can be a guest too!  help me give voice to your story and raise road safety awareness! Before we drive right in I think that I should introduce my self better so you know a few things about my background. The sky was my limit and the world was just waiting for me to explore it. In my early 20's that feeling was shattered into pieces.  When I was 23 years old we crashed! and with that crash,  our whole world came down crashing into pieces…. Now we're fighting for survival..  It only took one split second for our reality to change and we didn't like what we saw.. If you like the idea behind this podcast, please give it a rate and a review and don't forget… If you have experienced a life transformational crash, I want to hear about it! Follow me on Instagram, on Facebook, and send me an email on lifesurvivor_podcast@yahoo.com and join this ride of sharing and raising road safety awareness. Until then be safe! It won't happen to me with Pat Dixon

How many times have you said this phrase in your life? "It won't happen to me"... until it did. On this episode I will be discussing with a very special guest about the impact a car accident can have on those people that are the first to arrive and offer help at the accident scene.  Pat Dixon.. a hero to many, a first responder that is forgotten like so many others will be sharing what he does to heal emotionally. He was a paramedic for 30 years and has witnessed more than he ever wanted to, on the front line at work.  From road accidents, to abuse and suicides, he has seen it all.He says " the luck of support in the workplace and no education is not fair to the first responders or to their families. It's immoral to not receive the support they need to deal and process wthat they have seen over the years" this is why PTSD was inevitable. After 30 years of working as a first responder in paramedics, he decided to step away  and focus on his well being. With the help of his psychologist and occupational therapist, he is now happy,  calm,  and still very passionate about helping others.  He has spend countless hours perfecting his presentation called 'Coping  skills for first responders" and he is sharing what he has learned, so everyone can receive the support and help they need.If you want to have Pat on your show  or reach out for a future presentation, send me an email at lifesurvivor_podcast@yahoo.com and I will forward your information directly to Pat.
