After pointing-out more absurdity from Ohio Republicans, who've introduced a bill banning flag-planting on football fields, Pat Johnston turns his attention back to Michigan, and the many progressive bills that Democrats must pass while they still have the majority in Lame Duck. Pat talks about a Progress Michigan-backed poll showing how Michiganders support state Democrats passing progressive legislation in these final days of 2024. Many of these bills, like Polluter Pay, Paid Family Leave, water affordability, reproductive protections, and others have taken a back seat to more bills directing millions of dollars in corporate welfare. 13:17-34:15: TAP's David Dayen Interview The American Prospect's executive editor, David Dayen, joins the show to talk more about his recent piece titled, "Michigan Democrats Deliver Lame-Duck Disappointment: The first Democratic trifecta in 40 years is ending with internal dissent, stalled legislation, and up to $10 billion in corporate subsidies." Mr. Dayen illustrates how satisfying the corporate donor base is the top priority for the Democratic leadership, including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and that's causing dissension with the progressive wing of the caucus. And, Mr. Dayen talks about how the more Democrats cozy-up to corporate-backed interests, the more they keep losing working class voters both in Michigan, and the rest of the United States. Don't forget to check-out David Dayen's "Organized Money" podcast! 35:00-39:00: MI Dems Pass Unemployment Boost In the "Last Call," Pat shares the great news that Michigan Democrats did pass a solid bill boosting to Michigan's Unemployment benefits this week. The bill not only extends unemployment by six more weeks, but it also boosts the payments. The legislation is on its way to Governor Whitmer's desk. Now, this is how it's done, Michigan Democrats! More of this, please! 40:00-41:39: Ending Please, subscribe to the podcast, download each episode, and give it a good review if you can! leftoflansing@gmail.com Left of Lansing is now on YouTube as well! leftoflansing.com NOTES: David Dayen's "Organized Money" Podcast "Michigan Democrats Deliver Lame-Duck Disappointment: The first Democratic trifecta in 40 years is ending with internal dissent, stalled legislation, and up to $10 billion in corporate subsidies." Happy Wednesday! You got this!

On this episode we react to the tragic news of 3 consecutive mass shootings in California in as many days. As tragedy strikes a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, then two farms in Half Moon Bay, and lastly a gas station shootout in Oakland. As these stories become more frequent and closer to home we discuss it's impacts on all the families affected and again ask what could be done. We then highlight Joey Bada$$ and his recent Umi Says Cover. I ask Rich if Joey is one of the next generations leading men and get his perspective. And Ben Simmons asks his would be fiancé for the engagement ring back after the plans fall through, even going as far as to having legal documents drawn up. We give our takes on if it's right or wrong and get some jokes off. Somehow we end up discussing driving and some of the fears one might have when they aren't the one in control of the wheel. Our stomachs hurt from laughing as we shared our horror stories. We bring back the “Art Laboe Oldie But Hoodie” segment with a couple of gems! Then we breakdown the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs and look ahead to this weekends Conference games. All that and much more on a jam packed episode of UNPROFESSIONAL AF! You've seen this movie before, more or less, but it's no less entertaining. As someone who gets a thrill out of smash-up genres and storylines, this movie had me at the Universal Pictures into, washed in red. If all you've done is read the reviews so far, it's pretty clear that the premise is generally based on the Mary Rodgers book, Freaky Friday, published nearly 50 years ago. Whether you've read the book or keep the Lindsay Lohan 2003 remake in your movie rotation, you know how freaky it can be trading places--and bodies--with your mother. Freaky takes this up a notch when high school wallflower Millie Kessler has a run-in with the murderous Blissfield Butcher, who is played oh-so-perfectly by Vince Vaughn. We know he's masterful at being a raucous wedding crasher and so uncomfortably excellent at playing Norman Bates, but I had NO idea he could pull off a timid teen so well! But I digress… This film is NOT a remake. It's more of a dark comedy-parody-tribute masterpiece with all the familiar tropes we love so much. Join us as we discuss this fun take on a fun switch-a-roo. While also enjoying the drink know as "The Blood Clot" As always.... Drive Safe, Drink Responsibility, and Keep Watching Movies! An episode different from the previous ones but with many take aways when it comes to road safety. Not all accidents lead to severe injuries, but that doesn't mean that lessons are not learned. Taranjit is a young woman from the US and she is co-host of the Drive With Us Podcast. She loves the road and she is going for long drives on country roads. She has a daily roundtrip commute of 3 hours and has seen and experienced her fair share of craziness on the road. She has been rear-ended, she had numerous close calls and also two deer accidents, one more serious than the other. Her love for driving and road trips is what inspired her to create Drive With Us Podcast with her sister and explore the different driving cultures around the world while sharing relatable driving experiences with other drivers.. The Roy Green Show Podcast The confirmation vote for Judge Brett Kavanaugh has been delayed for one week. During that time, the FBI will investigate the accusation that he sexually assaulted Dr. Christine Ford. Roy looks at how the FBI investigation will go forward from here, what the FBI is able to do and how much investigating can actually be done in a week. Later, how much crisis management will be needed for the senators and others involved in the Kavanaugh hearing? And how does crisis management or “damage control” work? Terri-Lynne McClintic's move to a lower-security Indigenous healing lodge is considered a travesty of justice by many. It is, however, not too unusual a decision from Correctional Services Canada. Scott Newark joins the show to explain why child-killers like McClintic, Harold Smeltzer and Karla Homolka receive favourable treatment. Canada's small business community is facing shake-ups in the form of uncertainty surrounding the Trans Mountain Pipeline extension's future, the current lack of a NAFTA resolution, and the legalization of marijuana offering opportunities to entrepreneurs. Meanwhile in Ontario, the Ford government will not proceed with raising minimum wage in 2019, and Alberta small business confidence is the lowest in the nation. During the parliamentary hearings on Bill C-75, Liberal MP Randy Boissonnault, a member of the parliamentary committee, appeared to pay no attention to Canadian mother Sheri Arsenault, who was there to testify her concerns about the bill; it seemed as if MP Boissonnault spent most of his time fixated on his two phones.
