She obtained her Nutrition degree at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, in México, and her master's degree and Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition at Baylor University. In 2021 she was awarded a conference scholarship by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders, and she became an International Ethan Sims Award finalist by The Obesity Society.
