Joelle Weinand is the Founder of Nutcase Milk, the cashew-based chocolate milk brand taking on Nesquik with a cleaner, more sophisticated option built for adults. What started as a boredom-fueled kitchen experiment during COVID: blending cashews, cocoa, and dates in her Vitamix, quickly evolved into a business. A chance brunch in Las Vegas with old poker friends turned into a pre-seed round when investors tried and liked her “ChocoMilk”. Soon, big names like Ninja and Steve Aoki came on board, and an ops expert from Mezcla Bars helped Joelle scale.Joelle's path blends relentless scrappiness with an instinct for spotting white space in crowded categories. From shelving the idea when no co-packers picked up the phone, to saying yes when opportunity appeared in unexpected rooms, to relaunching her formula based on real customer feedback, she's showing how a so-called “nutcase” idea can capture the market's imagination.Whether you're trying to break into CPG, find your first investors, or take a product from Instagram post to retail shelf, Joelle shares a candid look at how to move fast, embrace serendipity, and build a brand people are proud to carry. In This Conversation We Discuss:[00:42] Intro[00:57] Launching nostalgia as a premium product[01:24] Testing a concept with friends at brunch[07:02] Highlighting the power of simple ideas[08:13] Running small tests before scaling up[09:10] Connecting with ops partners through luck[12:46] Episode Sponsors: Electric Eye, Heatmap, Grow[15:59] Meeting investors at random events[17:23] Building trust with passion and clarity[18:23] Raising a pre-seed with friends[22:18] Asking founders for advice directly[25:04] Reducing friction in early startups[26:55] Gathering feedback to guide reformulationResources:Subscribe to Honest Ecommerce on YoutubeDelicious, healthy and nostalgic cashew milk https://drinknutcase.com/Follow Joelle Weinand https://www.linkedin.com/in/joelledSchedule an intro call with one of our experts https://electriceye.io/connectClear, real-time data built for ecommerce optimization https://www.heatmap.com/honestThe Premier Conference for Ecommerce Operators https://www.joingrow.comIf you're enjoying the show, we'd love it if you left Honest Ecommerce a review on Apple Podcasts. Growing up addicted to chocolate milk, Jo eventually realized that her favorite treat wasn't as healthy as she'd imagined. “It was a sad day when I started to read labels and realized, oof, I just cannot be drinking this anymore,” she shared in today's episode. As Jo searched for a healthier alternative, she found herself frustrated by disappointing options. Either the products didn't taste good, or they were full of fillers and oils. When the pandemic hit and life slowed down, Jo seized the opportunity to experiment. Using her Vitamix and pantry staples like cashews, cocoa powder, and agave syrup, she crafted a homemade chocolate milk that surprised her with its deliciousness. “I hit blend, poured it in a cup, tried it and was like, wait, what? This is actually really good,” Jo said. That spark of inspiration soon became Nutcase, a company producing healthier chocolate milk with cashews as the creamy, nutrient-rich base. But Jo wasn't content with just making something for herself or her local community. “I'm a big dreamer,” she said. “As soon as I realized there was a product here, I started thinking about how to scale it globally.”Jo tested the waters by bottling her creation and selling it in her restaurant, where it quickly flew off the shelves. That validation pushed her to solve the next challenge: extending the product's shelf life for large-scale distribution. Through persistence and a network of connections, Jo found experts who helped her refine the formulation and production process. Now, Nutcase is on the verge of becoming a global brand, and Jo is inviting others to join her journey. With a regulated crowdfunding campaign currently open, anyone can invest in Nutcase and own a piece of the company. “Having everyday people, super fans, and supporters have skin in the game was a no-brainer for me,” Jo said. Her passion for creating a healthier, better-tasting chocolate milk is undeniable, but her vision for building an inclusive, community-backed brand is just as inspiring. Don't miss your chance to be part of this delicious revolution.tl;dr:Jo Weinand founded Nutcase to create healthier, cashew-based chocolate milk that tastes amazing.A pandemic experiment with cashews, cocoa, and agave led to a surprisingly successful formula.Jo scaled Nutcase from a local product to a global brand with strategic networking and persistence.Celebrities and influencers, including Steve Aoki and Ninja, joined Nutcase as partners and advocates.Through equity crowdfunding, Jo invites supporters to invest in Nutcase and join the mission. How to Develop Uniting People As a SuperpowerJo's ability to unite people around a common mission is her defining strength. She explained, “As a founder, the best thing ever is building a team...of big celebrities and influencers, but also giving opportunities to people who are such hard workers and hustlers.” Jo's talent for inspiring enthusiasm and aligning others with her vision has been instrumental in turning Nutcase into more than just a business—it's a movement. When Jo launched Nutcase's strawberry flavor, she saw an opportunity to approach Steve Aoki, who initially wasn't a fan of chocolate milk. Upon trying the strawberry variety, he became so excited about the product and its brain-health benefits, he not only joined as a partner but also introduced Nutcase to his foundation to support brain health initiatives. Jo's ability to bring people together with shared values has helped Nutcase grow in unexpected, meaningful ways.Tips for Developing the Superpower:Share your passion authentically to inspire others.Don't be afraid to ask for help or make connections.Build a team with people who are aligned with your mission.Lean into your uniqueness—be bold and embrace being different.Final Paragraph:By following Jo's example and advice, you can make uniting people a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileJo Weinand (she/her):Founder, Nutcase MilkAbout Nutcase Milk: Nutcase combines the nostalgic appeal of Nesquik with a premium, better-for-you nut milk, in sleek adult packaging. Bible Reading: Psalm 32:2-10Lexie twirled around her room in her new dress. She couldn't wait to wear it to her cousin's wedding on Saturday!Mom stood smiling at the door. "That's a beautiful dress, Lexie, but you need to take it off now before you spill something on it. I'm off to the store--Dad is outside gardening if you need him." Once Mom was gone, Lexie rushed downstairs. She swished about in her dress as she got a bottle from the fridge and poured a glass of chocolate milk. I won't spill it--I'm not a baby! she thought, flicking on the television.Glued to her favorite TV show, Lexie accidentally tilted her glass. She gasped as a cold trickle of chocolate milk landed in her lap. Frantically, she tried dabbing at the stain with a napkin, but that only seemed to make it spread. I have to get rid of this stain before Mom sees it! Lexie thought. Then she heard a car. Mom was back! Lexie knew she had a choice--run upstairs and pretend nothing had happened, or tell the horrible truth. A story she'd heard in Sunday school about King David suddenly came to her mind, and how bad he felt when he tried to cover up his sin. Lexie took a deep breath as Mom's key turned in the lock. "Mom, I'm so sorry, I didn't listen!" Lexie blurted out as Mom walked in. "I kept wearing my dress even though you told me not to, and I spilled chocolate milk on it. Now it's ruined!""Oh, Lexie!" Mom sighed. "Let me see."Lexie nervously moved her hand away from the soggy stain. Mom tilted the fabric toward the light. "I'm disappointed you didn't obey me, Lexie, but I'm glad you told me the truth." "I almost didn't tell you," Lexie confessed. "But then I remembered a story Mrs. Summers told us in church about bringing things into the light."Mom smiled. "Mrs. Summers is right. Admitting we've messed up is never easy. But if we cover it up, it just makes a bigger mess in the end. That's why we need to be honest about our wrongs--not just to others, but to Jesus, who forgives our sins and makes us clean. Now, let's get that dress in the wash!"–Angela Jelf How About You?Have you ever been scared to admit when you've done something wrong? Have you ever told a lie to cover up a mistake you made? It can be difficult to confess our sins, but the Bible tells us that when we try to hide our mistakes, we only end up causing ourselves and others more pain. The next time you mess up, admit it--Jesus is always ready to forgive your sin and wash you clean.Today's Key Verse:If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV) (1 John 1:9)Today's Key Thought:Confess your sins

There's a new poultry guideline that's got producers and regulators talking. Ben Jarboe talks with Ron Kean(cane) the poultry specialist with extension. Kean gives insight to the new rule in poultry that looks to provide transparency in the industry. Cold weather continues in Wisconsin with snow around mid-week according to Stu Muck. It's been almost a year since Wisconsin passed legislation to allow heavier weights of liquid dairy products on state roads. SB 431, passed in March 2024, extends the state’s current allowance for milk hauling of 98,000 pounds over six axles to include all liquid dairy products, such as liquid whey. Stephanie Hoff gets one industry perspective with Luke Buholzer, vice president of Klondike Cheese. Gail Klinkner, dairy farmer from Vernon County and member of the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin board believes that check-off dollars are being invested wisely to keep the state's dairy reputation growing. She tells Pam Jahnke that one way they do that is by partnering with the WIAA and WSN. Wisconsin Dairy farmers support these teams, individuals, and communities. The focus during these sporting events is to share Wisconsin Dairy Farming messages to audiences that may be removed from agriculture. Sustainability, dairy product nutrition, and economic impact are a focus of our outreach; in fact, “Chocolate Milk is the official beverage of the WIAA”. Athletes at these state tournaments are provided chocolate milk. Promotion and consumption of chocolate milk and its recovery benefits for athletes and fans are showcased on television, social and in stadiums during these tournaments. This is an exciting time of year as Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin (DFW) partners with the WIAA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association) and WSN (Wisconsin Sports Network). Dairy farmer, executive board member and WI representative on the National Dairy Board, Gail Klinkner, takes a moment to explain why this partnership is key from a nutritional standpoint, and a "next generation customer" position. Klinkner begins by explaining the dairy farm that her family operates in Western Wisconsin in the community of Viroqua. As a mom, Klinkner has 5 active kids - two of which are involved in high school sports themselves! Klinkner explains that DFW has enjoyed a long standing partnership with WIAA and WSN. Again in 2025, there will be a major messaging emphasis during State Tournaments! Wisconsin Dairy farmers not only support these teams, individuals, and communities, but they also share Wisconsin Dairy Farming messages to audiences that may be removed from agriculture. Sustainability, dairy product nutrition, and economic impact are a focus of the outreach. Appropriately enough, “Chocolate Milk is the official beverage of the WIAA”. Athletes at these state tournaments are provided chocolate milk. Promotion and consumption of chocolate milk and its recovery benefits for athletes and fans are showcased on television, social and in stadiums during these tournaments. Klinkner explains the partnership with WisSports.net that extends beyond the courts to the annual "Wisconsin Dairy Athlete of the Month". This showcase allows dedicated Wisconsin dairy to highlight youth who grow and raise food for their communities. WisSports.net is the go-to location for high school sports schedules, individual athlete and team statistics, as well as state rankings. More than 35 million pages are viewed annually at wissports.net, providing a great platform for athletes, coaches, and fans to see positive dairy messaging and support for our local farmers and athletes across the state. Wisconsin dairy will be recognizing two athletes every month during the campaign. To find out how you can submit an athlete honoree, go to wissports.net, wisconsindairy.org or WSN social media platforms.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
