Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:    Sierra: Hello Dr Cabral, And thank you so much for everything. You have been such an amazing mentor to my husband and I and we are loving the IHP course, can't wait for level 2! I had my first child two years ago (2019) with no complications during pregnancy. The only “complication” that I can say is that for a few hours after giving birth I couldn't urinate on my own, which led to a catheter insertion to empty my bladder. I'm not sure if this can be related but I've been having this excruciating pain every month for two years, about 14days or so after my period (which made me believe it could be Mittelschmerz) that basically Inhibits me from living a normal life for 2-3 days. I can't walk and if I do I'm hunched over holding my left lower abdomen (where my ovary is) due to a constant dull inflamed pain. Any how, I have been to the ER countless amount of times, have had blood work, seen multiple specialist, and I have been left with the same depressing answers “everything's normal” or “you're probably stressed because you are a new mom”… It's been two years and the only options they are giving me is birth control (which I tried for 6 months and it didn't help) or exploratory surgery. What would you recommend or what could be the reasons to why I'm having this on going pain? Thanks again   Alicja (Ah-leets-yah): Hi Dr.Cabral, Thank you for all your amazing work! I hope you can help me with my gut question: I've been dealing with gut issues for a while. I took probiotics daily and it wasn't until I found your podcast and learned that with people like me, probiotics may make things worse. I stopped taking probiotics and I noticed less bloating, however my mood dropped down significantly. I understand the gut-brain connection and I know I need to heal my gut to feel mentally happy too. Taking probiotics daily helped me stay happy and positive, but I noticed big shift in mood when I don't take them. I feel depressed. I'm currently on Para Support protocol (next will be CBO) Any advice for me during my protocols. Should I suck it up for a bit and still avoid probiotics for a while. Or should I start taking probiotics again and along with Para Support? Maybe just s.boulardii? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you again for all you do.   Darren: Good day Dr Cabral. I don't know if a trigger warning is needed prior to this question but is semen retention something that's actually beneficial for men? That is going days, weeks, even months with intentionally minimising ejaculating usually done by either abstention, stopping (intercourse or self pleasure) before the point of ejaculation, or learning how to climax without ejaculating. While I'm seeing many anecdotal benefits I understand some in ayurveda say that's Prajnyaparadha (unhealthy suppression). I know you usually have a more balanced approach. Will appreciate your take on this.   Malissa: Day two very Nauseous. Took the day off, Just did a dry brush, Epsom bath and drank water mixed with sea salt and lemons (Supposed to be a natural Gatorade). I did sweat so that's good. Unfortunately. Suggestions for Nausea?   Francesca: Hi Dr. Cabral. I am a type 1 diabetic, female and 24 y/o. When I was 20 y/o, I started restrictive eating and my weight dropped significantly over the course of a year, as did my estrogen levels (below the charts). At that point, I was put on HRT and given doses of estradiol, and progesterone. I also began ED recovery. 3 years later, I have put on 50 pounds while still needing to eat very restrictive, my metabolism is very low, and most concerningly, I am experiencing blood sugars above 500 every day (very low carb diet!). My question is, What EXACTLY breaks a fast? I believe the HRT/ ED recovery has caused insulin resistance, and causes me to take insulin even when in a fasted state. is the insulin itself breaking a fast? There are a lot of studies that interchange the action of eating w/ the action of insulin secretion, but because I am a diabetic, one does not automatically follow the other. I just began taking Triphala, and noticed it has lowered blood glucose. But again, is this a fix to lowering insulin needs, or is this essentially processing the same as insulin, and furthering fat deposits? Your past podcasts on fasting suggests a lot of things that cause a glucose spike will break a fast, but does not truly define if its the insulin causing the fast break. Thanks!   Jenna: I heard that Glyphosate will be banned in the US started in 2023. Is that true?? I am praying   Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions!    - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2374 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? “Shaping a healthy gut microbiome from birth is really the best way to support healthy and happy kids for their lifetime,” says Dr. Elisa Song, an integrative pediatrician and pediatric medical expert. Seventy percent of our immunity starts in our gut, and the diseases that start with an unhealthy gut go far beyond stomach issues. Autoimmune disorders, allergies, skin problems, and psychological issues are a result of an unhealthy gut microbiome. In fact, the brain and the gut are so connected that some cultures consider the gut “the first brain,” as the brain actually listens to it and can't survive without it. The gut, with its own separate nervous system, can survive without the brain. When their communication breaks down, that's when the problems start.    Setting up a healthy gut biome early in a child's life is crucial, and there are ways to remedy an unhealthy one, including a regiment used by holistically minded pediatricians called “The Five Rs.” These include Replacing and Re-inoculating. Probiotics are crucial, (and conversely, antibiotics are a huge culprit) and should be found in the diet whenever possible. Reducing food preservatives, which are a huge contributing factor to an unhealthy gut, is also crucial.    Join the conversation to hear Dr. Elisa discuss the other three Rs, the difference between leaky gut, gut dysbiosis, and gut imbalance, and what to expect from her forthcoming book.    Quotes     • “A lot of times, the gut is at the root of so many things.” (8:48-8:53 | Sasha) • “We have to think, ‘Who are we? Who are we nourishing? Who are we supporting? Who are we trying to help thrive?” (10:11-10:18 | Dr. Elisa) • “Shaping a healthy gut microbiome from birth is really the best way to support healthy and happy kids for their lifetime.” (10:45-10:56 | Dr. Elisa) • “The gut/brain connection is interesting because some would actually call the brain ‘the second brain, and the gut the first brain.'”(12:48-12:55 | Dr. Elisa) • “For the most part, babies' guts are an open slate, ready to be shaped.” (21:53-21:59 | Dr. Elisa) • “Talk to kids, from the moment they're little to the time they become teenagers, why the gut matters and make it matter for them. What matters to kids, teenagers? It's their skin!...How do we get our gut clean?” (37:09-37:43 | Dr. Elisa) • “Those food additives are one of the biggest factors in disrupting our gut microbiome in the modern world.” (1:04:10-1:04:15 | Dr. Elisa) • “Most times if you have to look it up, it usually isn't good for you.” (1:09:16-1:09:20 | Sasha) • “All health starts in the gut. Hippcrates, the father of modern medicine, is credited with saying that.”(1:09:30-1:09:36 | Dr. Elisa) Stats • “The gut is home to 70% of the immune system.” (0:13-0:18 | Sasha) • “It is believed that before the age of four or five, a child's microbiome remains flexible. (0:18-0:25 | Sasha) • “Inflammation can manifest itself in many different ways, through environmental allergies, food sensitivities, autoimmune diseases, constipation, eczema and more.” (0:45-0:56 | Sasha) • “The gut microbiome is that collection of over 100 zillion organisms in our gut.” (9:32-9:40 | Dr. Elisa) • “It's an amalgam of bacteria, viruses, yeast, parasites, all living together (hopefully) in harmony with our human cells. We have more microbial cells in and on our body than we have human cells.” (9:51-10:10 | Dr. Elisa)  • “Our gut microbiome is responsible for the vast majority– 90 to 95 percent–of all of our brain chemicals, our neurotransmitters, like serotonin (11:15-11:31 | Dr. Elisa) • “The balance of our gut microbiome has been linked to virtually every single chronic disease in children and adults. (11:38-11:47 | Dr. Elisa) • “The gut has its own nervous system called the enteric nervous system which can actually live without the brain, but the brain can't live without the gut's nervous system.” (12:56-13:13 | Dr. Elisa) • “The gut and the brain communicate via a two-way information superhighway called the vagus nerve.” (13:15-13:24 | Dr. Elisa) • “80-90 percent of the communication in the vagus nerve happens from the gut to the brain. That means that only about 10-20 percent happens from the brain to the gut.”(14:09-14:24 Dr. Elisa) • “A study no toddler's gut microbiome found that the different mix of gut bacteria actually help shape our kids' temperaments.” (14:37-14:48 | Dr. Elisa)  • “In that hollow tube, from our mouth, esophagus, stomach, large and small intestine, all the way to our anus are lined with tonsil-like patches called Peyer's patches, and that makes up what's known as the gut associative lymphoid tissue.” (16:27-16:48 | Dr. Elisa) • “Babies who are given antibiotics or antacid medications in the first years of life, by the time they were four years of age have a significantly increased risk of every single allergic disease, including asthma, eczema, anaphylactic food allergies, hives, you name it.” (23:05-23:24 | Dr. Elisa) • "Hashimoto's and thyroid problems are an increasing problem among teenagers, and in fact there is an autoimmune marker called an ANA (Antinuclear antigen). It's a red flag.”  (33:43-34:05 | Dr. Elisa) • “At a recent conference, there were discussion about the projection that by 2050, antibiotic resistance could be one of the leading causes of death.”(46:02-46:16 | Dr. Elisa) • “Our body can't distinguish between psychological or physical or infectious stress. Psychological stress yields the same amount of inflammation as physical stress.” (56:53-57:03 | Dr. Elisa) • “The food additive industry was created to make food sweeter, saltier, look better, last longer, and be more addictive.” (1:03:36-1:03:48 | Dr. Elisa) Notable links:   Connect with Dr. Elisa Song:   Website: www.healthykidshappykids.com   IG: @healthykids_happykids FB: fb.com/drelisasongmd Subscribe to our Mailing List: www.TheOfficialMomologist.com   Connect with The Momologist™: IG: https://www.instagram.com/theofficialmomologist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheOfficialMomologist   ------   The Momologist™ is a production of The Reel Media Group.  For inquiries, please email: contact@thereelmediagroup.com   DISCLAIMER: The views provided in this episode and the show notes are for informational purposes only. How to make Tempeh for your daily probiotics?

Relax with Meditation

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 26, 2022

Tempeh are fermented beans that are packed in bulk with white spores from fermentation... Looks like Camembert cheese and taste cheesy… Tempeh is a delicious cheese. You can add tempeh to your salad or fermented veggies, like kimchi... Easy to do and full of healthy probiotics. The recipe is at the end.The original recipe is soy-based, and you can literally use any kind of dry beans. When using chickpeas, use split chickpeas, because normal chickpeas are too large and thus do not stick together. You have to soak the beans then boil them in water. After boiling, the beans need not be too tender and not too hard. You have to add white vinegar or I like apple vinegar better. Because Tempeh starter is a mould that loves an acidic environment and vinegar protects beans against bacteria. Keep the Tempeh above 25 C and below 35 C for the first 12 hours. Afterwards, the Tempeh generates enough heat...You need organic, no GM soy... 600g dry whole soya. 5Tbsp Vinegar.1 teaspoon 3-5 grams of tempeh starter.1 teaspoon salt, I prefer pink Himalaya salt. Clean beans thoroughly in water, we do not want them with insects... Soak them for eight to twelve hours.Rinse again in freshwater. You don't need to dehull the beans, that is too time consuming. Take a Power-pressure-pot, put them inside, and add sufficient water for them to be covered with water. Add your 5 Tablespoon vinegar and 1 Teaspoon salt. Soy needs about 30 minutes to cook. Remove the water and the hulls that are floating on the water. Put the beans back carefully on the heat, stir with a wooden spoon to evaporate the remaining liquid. The best is to put them on a towel or dry them with a hair dryer, but this is too much work. Allow the beans to dry and cool to 35 ºC. Add 1 teaspoon of tempeh powder and mix thoroughly for 1 minute.  You put them in a zip-lock-bag that you punctured every inch or 2.5 cm with a bamboo or metal skewer...The bag should not be filled thicker than 2.5 cm full of soybeans.Another option is to use banana leaves. -So, I have done it. "I have so many banana plants, and it's much easier.Cut the leaf stem and patch both sides, so that the banana leaf is sufficiently large.  Don't perforate the banana leaf. Cut them into whatever size you want.Wrap the soybeans in the banana leaf...You can use a toothpick to glue the bundle together... Or simply place 100g of weight on it, like a bag with dry soybeans...  Keep the beans for 12 hours between 25-35 C approx... Then the mold should produce its own heat... The tempeh should be fermented for 30-40 hours, all time included. Verify the result.Tempeh can be refrigerated for a week or frozen for 1/2 year. When you freeze the Tempeh for six months, the probiotics will stay alive. My Video: How to make Tempeh for your daily probiotics? https://youtu.be/C6RH2ypAy5oMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast2/How-to-make-Tempeh-for-your-daily-probiotics.mp3

The popularization of probiotics in the marketplace has led to the commoditization and of cheap and largely ineffective probiotics. This has also led to many consumers being confused as to how to choose a quality product. This is the story of Dr. Ohhira and his development of his innovative probiotic supplements. However, anticoagulant activities of curcumin have not been studied.  The anticoagulant properties of curcumin and its derivative (bisdemethoxycurcumin, BDMC) were determined by monitoring activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), prothrombin time (PT) as well as cell-based thrombin and activated factor X (FXa) generation activities.  Data showed that curcumin and BDMC prolonged aPTT and PT significantly and inhibited thrombin and FXa activities. They inhibited the generation of thrombin or FXa. In accordance with these anticoagulant activities, curcumin and BDMC showed anticoagulant effect in vivo.  Surprisingly, these anticoagulant effects of curcumin were better than those of BDMC indicating that methoxy group in curcumin positively regulated anticoagulant function of curcumin. Therefore, these results suggest that curcumin and BDMC possess antithrombotic activities and daily consumption of the curry spice turmeric might help maintain anticoagulant status.   Probiotics may prevent breast cancer: Study Western University (Ontario), June 27, 2022   A new study has found probiotics may prove to be a critical factor in preventing breast cancer.   Dr Gregor Reid, the professor of microbiology, immunology and surgery at the Western University in Ontario, Canada, said the bacteria having the potential to abet breast cancer are present in the breasts of cancer patients, while beneficial bacteria are more abundant in healthy breasts.   In the study, Reid's PhD student Camilla Urbaniak obtained breast tissues from 58 women, who were undergoing lumpectomies or mastectomies for either benign (13 women) or cancerous (45 women) tumors as well as from 23 healthy women, who had undergone breast reductions or enhancements. Researchers found that women with breast cancer had elevated levels of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, two bacteria known to induce double-stranded breaks in DNA in HeLa cells, which are cultured human cells. They say the breaks are prone to errors, which can cause cancer to develop.   Health-promoting bacteria Lactobacillus and Streptococcus (lactic acid bacteria) were more abundant in women with healthy breasts, both are anti-carcinogenic.     'Mystical' psychedelic compound found in normal brains University of Michigan, June 27, 2022 In the past few years, thrill-seekers from Hollywood, Silicon Valley and beyond have been travelling to South America to take part in so-called Ayahuasca retreats. Their goal: to partake in a brewed concoction made from a vine plant Banisteriopsis caapi, traditionally used by indigenous people for sacred religious ceremonies. Drinkers of Ayahuasca experience short-term hallucinogenic episodes many describe as life-changing. The active ingredient responsible for these psychedelic visions is a molecule called dimethyltryptamine (DMT). For the first time, a team led by Michigan Medicine has discovered the widespread presence of naturally-occurring DMT in the mammalian brain. The finding is the first step toward studying DMT-- and figuring out its role -- within the brains of humans. "DMT is not just in plants, but also can be detected in mammals," says Jimo Borjigin, Ph.D., of the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. Her interest in DMT came about accidentally. Before studying the psychedelic, her research focused on melatonin production in the pineal gland. In the seventeenth century, the philosopher Rene Descartes claimed that the pineal gland, a small pinecone-shaped organ located deep in the center of the brain, was the seat of the soul. Since its discovery, the pineal gland, known by some as the third eye, has been shrouded in mystery. Scientists now know it controls the production of melatonin, playing an important role in modulating circadian rhythms, or the body's internal clock.  The core idea seems to come from a documentary featuring the work of researcher Rick Strassman, Ph.D. with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. In the mid-1990s, he conducted an experiment in which human subjects were given DMT by IV injection and interviewed after its effects wore off. In a documentary about the experiment, Strassman claims that he believed the pineal gland makes and secretes DMT. Borjigin sought to discover how and where DMT was synthesized.  They found DMT in other parts of the brain, including the neocortex and hippocampus that are important for higher-order brain functions including learning and memory." A paper published in 2018 by researchers in the U.K. purported that DMT simulates the near death experience, wherein people report the sensation of transcending their bodies and entering another realm.    Puffing curcumin may blast Alzheimer's Vanderbilt University, Jun 22, 2022   The new delivery method may be more effective than others in getting the compound past the blood-brain barrier and into the brain, where it can fight the plaque that leads to Alzheimer's.   Deep breaths of curcumin may be key to fighting Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study from Vanderbilt University. Curcumin, a compound in the spice turmeric, has a demonstrated ability to smash the plaques in the brain that lead to the neuron loss that causes Alzheimer's, according to the study's senior author,Wellington Pham, Ph.D The challenge, however, has been getting the curcumin into the brain. Pham and colleagues at Shiga University of Medical Science in Otsu, Japan, developed a new delivery strategy. They created a curcumin moleculte that could be tracked with an MRI, to be administered as an aerosol through a nebulizer. This method delivers the dose more directly to the brain than taking the compound orally and digesting it. After tests in mice, the team found that “delivery to the cortex and hippocampal areas is more efficient using aerosolized curcumin than intervenous injection in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease,” said Pham.   Anti-anxiety medication limits empathetic behavior in rats University of Chicago, June 27, 2022   Rats given midazolam, an anti-anxiety medication, were less likely to free trapped companions because the drug lessened their empathy, according to a new study by University of Chicago neuroscientists.   The research, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, validates studies that show rats are emotionally motivated to help other rats in distress. In the latest study, rats treated with midazolam did not open the door to a restrainer device containing a trapped rat, although control rats routinely freed their trapped companions. Midazolam did not interfere with the rats' physical ability to open the restrainer door, however. In fact, when the restrainer device contained chocolate instead of a trapped rat, the test rats routinely opened the door. The findings show that the act of helping others depends on emotional reactions, which are dampened by the anti-anxiety medication.   "The rats help each other because they care," said Peggy Mason, PhD, professor of neurobiology at the University of Chicago. "They need to share the affect of the trapped rat in order to help, and that's a fundamental finding that tells us something about how we operate, because we're mammals like rats too."       7 Simple Ways to Unclog Your Arteries Naturally GreenMedInfo, June 23, 2022   Statistically, atherosclerosis (the progressive clogging of the arteries) is the #1 killer on the planet.  A complex process, involving autoimmunity, infection, dietary incompatibilities, and many known and unknown factors, it is – despite conventional medical opinion – entirely preventable, and in some cases reversible.   Here is the peer-reviewed, published research proving the fact: B Vitamins – yes, something as simple as adding a source of B-complex to your regimen can prevent the juggernaut of heart disease from taking your life prematurely. A doubled-blind, randomized study, published in 2005, in the journal Atherosclerosis found that a simple intervention using 2.5 mg folic acid, 25 mg Vitamin B6, and 0.5mg Vitamin B12 for 1 year, resulted in significant reductions in arterial thickness (as measured by intima media thickeness).[1] Even niacin ]or folic acid  alone has been show to have this effect in patients. [Note: Always opt for natural sources of the B-group vitamins, including probiotic supplementation (which produce the entire complement for you), or a whole food extract, versus synthetic or semi-synthetic vitamins which, sadly, predominate on the market today]. Garlic – as we have documented extensively previously, garlic can save your life. It has been found to regress plaque buildup in the arteries, among many other potentially life-saving health benefits.  Pomegranate – this super healing fruit has been found to regress plaque buildup in the arteries, as well as being demonstrated to provide dozens of validated health benefits, including replacing the function of the mammalian ovary! Fermented Cabbage – Kimchi, a Korean recipe, which includes fermented cabbage, hot pepper, and various other ingredients, including fermented fish, appears to stall the atherosclerotic process in the animal model.  Additionally, strains of good bacteria in kimchi have been found capable of degrading toxic chemicals that can additional bodily harm. L-Arginine: This amino acid is capable of preventing arterial thickening – up to 24% reduction! -- in the animal model. We have done an extensive literature review on arginine supplementation and have found that in over 30 studies demonstrating this fact addition to 150 known health benefits, it is capable of addressing the underlying dysfunction associated with cardiovascular disease: endothelial dysfunction, with no less than 20 studies proving this fact. Curcumin: the primary polyphenol in the Indian spice turmeric known as curcumin has been found to be an excellent cardioprotective, with over 30 studies demonstrating this fact. One study found that curcumin prevented damage to the arteries associated with blockage (neointima formation).  Sesame Seed: probably one of the most underappreciated super foods on the planet, sesame seed, which we have shown is as effective as Tylenol for arthritic pain, may be an excellent cardioprotective substance, ideally suited for preventing the progression of atherosclerosis. One animal study found it was capable of preventing atherosclerosis lesion formation.
