In this encore episode, we detail connections between H. pylori and hypochlorhydria, while highlighting possible downstream effects on nutrient absorption. We examine how reduced gastric acidity can impair the liberation and assimilation of certain micronutrients, including iron, calcium, vitamin B12, and more; and we further discuss the impact of low stomach acid upon downstream digestive enzyme activation and gut microbial balance. Topics:1. Hypochlorhydria - Low stomach acid.2. H. pylori 3. Gastric Anatomy & Layers- The stomach: hollow, muscular organ for mechanical and chemical digestion.- Regions: Cardia, fundus, body, and pylorus.- Layers: Mucosa, Submucosa, Muscularis externa, Serosa4. Mucosal Layer - Surface mucous cells secrete a thick bicarbonate-rich, protective mucus.- Gastric pits lead to gastric glands, which contain specialized secretory cells.5. Specialized Gastric Cells- Parietal Cells: Secrete hydrochloric acid (HCl) and intrinsic factor (IF).- Chief Cells: Secrete pepsinogen (converted to pepsin by HCl) and gastric lipase.- Role of HCl: Activates pepsin, denatures proteins, and contributes to nutrient absorption.- Intrinsic factor and vitamin B12 absorption.6. Vitamin B12 Absorption- Essential for DNA synthesis, RBC formation, neurological function.- Released from food proteins by gastric acid and pepsin.- Impaired absorption.7. Role of Gastric Acid in Broader Micronutrient Absorption- Absorption of minerals.- Soluble, ionized state.- Iron: HCl aids in preventing insoluble precipitates and supports iron absorption.8. Protective Role of Gastric Acid- Acts as a line of defense against ingested pathogens.- Maintains low microbial diversity in the stomach.- Low HCl and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth.9. Symptoms of Low Stomach Acid- Bloating, early satiety, excessive belching.- Undigested food in stool, chronic constipation.- May reflect impaired enzymatic activation and digestive insufficiency.10. Conclusion- Multifactorial causes and downstream effects.- Optimal range, neither high nor low.Thank you to our episode sponsor: 1. The newest dietary guidelines have officially been released, and for the first time in a long time, the language is shifting toward what is real and truly health-promoting — what the Nutritional Therapy Association has been teaching since 1997. In this episode of The Nutritional Therapy and Wellness Podcast, Jamie Belz breaks down what it means to "eat real food" and shares the NTA's longstanding, scientifically backed, ancestrally aligned, tried-and-true nutrition teachings. Jamie walks through how nutrition messaging became complicated, commercialized, and disconnected from human physiology, and how ultra-processed, hyper-palatable, food-like substances and industrial chemicals found in today's Standard American Diet have been engineered for profit, shelf stability, and addiction rather than nourishment. This episode brings clarity to what "eat real food" actually means in real life.   You'll learn: What the new dietary guidelines say and what they still don't define clearly Why "permitted" or "regulated" does not mean safe or health-promoting How the GRAS system allows industrial chemicals into the food supply Why calories are fuel, while nutrients are information The NTA's clear definition of whole foods and nutrient-dense eating How bio-individuality explains why one diet never works for everyone The difference between macronutrients and micronutrients Why traditional fats support health and industrial seed oils undermine it How digestion, hydration, stress, and food preparation determine nourishment Why alcohol is never neutral when healing is the goal How to read ingredient labels without fear or obsession Jamie also connects the dots between modern food processing, chronic disease, metabolic dysfunction, mental health struggles, and the rising dependence on medications, while offering a grounded, hopeful path forward rooted in education and foundational health principles. This episode isn't about chasing trends or waiting for policy to catch up. It's about understanding nutrition TRUTH. If you're overwhelmed by nutrition advice, confused by labels, or tired of swinging between trends, this episode will help you simplify and reset. Listen now and return to the foundations that have supported real healing long before the guidelines caught up.   Topics Covered: New dietary guidelines explained Whole foods vs ultra-processed foods Nutrient-dense eating Bio-individual nutrition Macronutrients and micronutrients Traditional fats and seed oils Food additives and GRAS Digestion and nutrient absorption Hydration and mineral balance Alcohol and metabolic health Foundations of Health   Other Episodes and Resources Mentioned: "Dehydration Nation" episode Ep 82 - Total Load Theory Ep 81 - Wellness 101 Ep 80 - Digestive Hell Ep 79 - Optimal Digestion Ep 70 - Getting Started with Meal Planning and Eating Healthier Overall Ep 69 - Who Was Dr. Weston A Price? This conversation explores the complex and deeply human relationship between gut health and mental wellbeing. Srinivas Kamath shares insights from his research into the gut–brain axis, unpacking how hormones, stress, medication and diet intersect at the microbiome level. We discuss the limitations of current mental health treatments, the growing promise of prebiotics, and why personalised medicine may be the future of emotional and cognitive care. The episode also looks ahead to emerging research in longevity, GLP-1 therapies and the role of the gut in neurodegenerative disease, offering a grounded yet hopeful view of where this science is heading. Key Takeaways The gut and brain operate in constant two-way communication, influencing mood, cognition and emotional regulation. Chronic stress and elevated cortisol can compromise the gut lining, contributing to inflammation and so-called leaky gut. Female hormones shape the microbiome across the lifespan, and gut health in turn affects hormonal balance. Understanding an individual’s microbiome opens the door to truly personalised approaches to mental and emotional health. Many psychiatric medications alter the gut microbiome, which may explain common side effects and variable outcomes. Prebiotics play a foundational role in supporting a resilient and diverse microbiome. For most people, prebiotics are more effective and sustainable than probiotic supplementation alone. GLP-1 is central to appetite regulation, gut signalling and broader metabolic and mental health pathways. The vagus nerve acts as a key communication highway between the gut and the brain.Gut microbiome research is rapidly evolving, with more questions than definitive answers at this stage. HEALTH NEWS   Probiotics emerge as a potent tool against depression and anxiety Altered microbiome: Oral bacteria play a role in chronic liver disease, study reveals Health issues linked to cosmetic jab complications From yoga to awe walks: Many paths lead to better mental health, largest analysis of well-being interventions finds Weight loss drugs may cause nutritional deficiencies without proper guidanc       Probiotics emerge as a potent tool against depression and anxiety University of Calgary (Canada), January 14 2026 (Natural News) For decades, the standard pharmaceutical approach to treating depression and anxiety has dominated treatment options, despite significant drawbacks including delayed effects, debilitating side effects and high relapse rates. Now, compelling new research is challenging this paradigm by pointing to a surprising source of relief: the gut. A comprehensive scientific analysis, synthesizing data from over 1,400 clinically diagnosed patients, reveals that probiotics—beneficial bacteria readily available as supplements—can produce substantial reductions in both depressive and anxious symptoms.   The analysis major findings include:     A major analysis of 23 clinical trials finds probiotics can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety in clinically diagnosed patients.   The benefits, appearing within 4-8 weeks, were comparable to some conventional antidepressants but without the same side-effect profile.   The gut-brain axis, a communication network largely ignored by conventional psychiatry, is central to understanding this connection.   Single-strain probiotic supplements, particularly certain Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, showed the strongest mental health effects.   This research supports a holistic view of mental wellness, where gut health is a foundational component of treatment.     Altered microbiome: Oral bacteria play a role in chronic liver disease, study reveals Technical University Munich (Germany), January 15 2026 (Medical Xpress) Each year, more than two million people die from advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD). Previous research has linked gut microbiome disruptions to this condition and suggested that bacteria typically found in the mouth may colonize the gut. A new study published in Nature Microbiology now shows that identical bacterial strains occur in both the mouth and gut of patients with advanced chronic liver disease and also reveals a mechanism by which oral bacteria affect gut health. The researchers also found that this process coincides with worsening liver health. Researchers analyzed bacterial populations in saliva and stool samples from patients. The team found that both the gut and oral microbiome undergo significant changes as liver disease worsened, where changes to the oral microbiome were already detectable at earlier disease stages. In healthy individuals, bacterial communities differ substantially between body sites. In patients with liver disease, however, oral and gut microbiomes became increasingly similar as the disease progressed and nearly identical bacterial strains were recovered from the mouth and gut of patients. "These strains are typically found in the mouth and are rarely present in the healthy gut. However, we observed increases in the absolute abundances of these oral bacteria in patients with advanced chronic liver disease. This strongly suggests that these bacteria translocate from the mouth and colonize the gut," explains Melanie Schirmer, Professor of Translational Microbiome Data Integration at TUM.   Health issues linked to cosmetic jab complications Anglia Ruskin University (UK), January 9 2026 (Eurekalert)   Patients with chronic illnesses face a significantly higher risk of complications from cosmetic botulinum toxin injections, commonly known as Botox, according to a major UK study. Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) surveyed 919 adults who had received botulinum toxin treatments for aesthetic reasons. The study, published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, is the largest of its kind to have been carried out in the UK. Botulinum toxin injections are among the UK's most popular cosmetic procedures, with an estimated 900,000 treatments performed every year. Researchers found that underlying conditions such as type 1 diabetes, thyroid disorders, chronic migraine and skin disease dramatically increase the likelihood of adverse effects. According to the study, people with type 1 diabetes were 92 times more likely to experience nausea after treatment compared to those without the condition. Those with thyroid disorders and chronic migraine sufferers had an approximately 10-fold increase in the risk of nausea. Other complications associated with pre-existing conditions included headaches, bruising, muscle weakness and persistent eyelid droop (ptosis). Patients with cataracts were 30 times more likely to report headaches, and those with prior injuries had a 21-fold increased risk of losing facial expression.   From yoga to awe walks: Many paths lead to better mental health, largest analysis of well-being interventions finds Swansea University (UK), January 15 2026 (Medical Xpress) New research by Swansea experts has provided the largest ever comparison of well-being-focused interventions delivered to adults. The team reviewed 183 randomized controlled trials, representing almost 23,000 participants, and evaluated 12 categories of interventions ranging from psychological, physical, mind–body, and nature-based approaches to find out more. Their research was the first interdisciplinary comparison carried out across psychological, physical, mind-body and environmental interventions. The study gives an integrated view of how different disciplines contribute to well-being. By focusing on general adult samples rather than clinical groups, it provides evidence that will be relevant to developing public health, education, workplace well-being, and community programs. The researchers' key findings were: Most interventions improved well-being compared with inactive control groups; Strongest effects were found for combined exercise plus psychological interventions (for example, awe walks or meditation combined with walking); Mind–body interventions showed consistently moderate, reliable effects; Exercise alone produced similar benefits to many psychological interventions; and, Positive psychology interventions—both single-component and multicomponent—were also effective. The analysis shows that there is no single route to improving well-being. Mindfulness, compassion-based approaches, yoga, exercise and positive psychology interventions all showed moderate benefits compared with control groups, and combining physical activity with psychological interventions appeared particularly promising.   Weight loss drugs may cause nutritional deficiencies without proper guidance     University College London & Cambridge, January 7 2026 (News-Medical) People prescribed the new generation of weight loss drugs may not receive sufficient nutritional guidance to support safe and sustainable weight loss, leaving them vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies and muscle loss, say experts at UCL and the University of Cambridge. In research published today in Obesity Reviews, the team found a lack of robust evidence surrounding nutritional advice and support and the impact this has on factors such as calorie intake, body composition, protein adequacy, and patient experiences. Weight loss drugs such as semaglutide and tirzepatide – available under brand names including Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro – mimic the naturally-occurring hormone glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1), released into the blood in response to eating. The drugs suppress appetite, increase a feeling of being full, and reduce food cravings. These drugs can reduce calorie intake by between 16-39 %, making them a powerful tool to help people living with obesity and being overweight. However, there has been little research to examine their impact on diet quality, protein intake, or adequacy of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The researchers identified just 12 studies that looked at nutrition and diet alongside treatment with semaglutide or tirzepatide. Given the widespread – and increasing – use of these medications and the urgency of providing advice to individuals using the drugs, there was insufficient evidence from the studies to recommend strict low-fat diets to complement the weight loss drugs. Some observational studies found that people on the treatments often consumed excessive levels of total and saturated fat. These medications are transforming obesity care, but we know very little about how they shape people's daily lives, including changes in appetite, eating patterns, wellbeing, and quality of life.

The shocking reality? Most supplements fail because they rely on acute stimulation or theoretical mechanisms instead of reproducible human evidence showing measurable improvements in the outcomes you actually care about. William is one of the world's leading voices on food as medicine, and together we explore how nutrition, immunity, and brain health are deeply connected, often in ways we underestimate. In this conversation, Dr. William Li shares how the body's defence systems are constantly communicating with the brain, influencing inflammation, cognition, mood, and ageing. Drawing on decades of research, he explains how everyday foods can strengthen immunity, protect blood vessels, and support brain function, not through restriction or perfection, but through consistent, nourishing choices. We discuss why immune health matters far beyond avoiding illness, how inflammation silently impacts mood and cognition, and why nourishing the body is one of the most accessible tools we have for long term resilience. This episode is an invitation to move away from fear based nutrition and toward a calmer, evidence led understanding of how the body heals, adapts, and thrives when supported consistently over time. Here's What We Dive Into:- How the immune system influences brain health, mood, and cognitive ageing.- Why chronic inflammation quietly undermines wellbeing long before symptoms appear.- What angiogenesis is and why healthy blood vessels matter for brain function.- How specific foods support the body's natural defence and repair systems.- Why food as medicine is about consistency, not restriction or perfection.- What the science really says about nutrition and disease prevention.- How everyday dietary choices shape long term resilience and longevity.- Why empowering people with knowledge creates healthier relationships with food.Love, Sarah Ann

He explains why this problem has reached crisis level. Rather than focusing on dramatic claims or quick fixes, this conversation explores what the science actually shows, including how probiotics may help mitigate some of the harmful effects of microplastics...not by breaking them down, but by supporting gut integrity and immune balance. We discuss:What microplastics and nanoplastics are, how they're formed, and where human exposure comes fromWhy nanoplastics may be especially concerning due to their size and biological interactionsThe range of health effects microplastics have been linked to, including immune, neurological, reproductive, and carcinogenic effectsHow microplastics may disrupt the gastrointestinal tract, including digestion, inflammation, barrier function, and gut permeabilityWhat the microbiome is and why it plays a central role in healthWhy probiotics were considered as a potential solution, and what the research foundWhy probiotic bacteria are unlikely to directly degrade plasticsHow probiotics may still help reduce inflammation and support the gut's protective barriersWhether certain bacteria appear more protective than othersThe role of industry collaboration and whether probiotic formulations are being exploredWhether probiotics can realistically help us get ahead of the microplastic crisis, or if they are only part of a larger solutionPractical ways people can reduce exposure, and where reduction may be unrealisticHow diet, including probiotic- and prebiotic-rich foods, might help mitigate riskWhat this research changed about Dr. Pacher-Deutsch's own habitsWhat's next in microplastics and health researchThis episode offers a clear, evidence-based look at microplastics inside the human body—without panic, hype, or false promises.GUEST BIO: Dr. Pacher-Deutsch is a scientist and researcher in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria; Center for Biomarker Research in Medicine (CBmed), Graz, Austria. Work with me? Look Great Naked
7 Foods That Help You Lose Stubborn Visceral Belly Fat

Look Great Naked

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 18, 2025 14:00

In this episode of The Eric Bach Show, Eric breaks down seven specific foods that make losing stubborn belly and visceral fat easier—not by “magic,” but by improving insulin sensitivity, metabolism, gut health, inflammation, and hormone balance. You'll learn how to build meals that keep you full, support longevity, and help you look great naked… without starving yourself or living in the gym. Why the same foods that help you get leaner also protect your brain, mitochondria, DNA, and cardiovascular system as you age. The 7 Foods Eric Breaks DownCoffeeBoosts metabolic rate (roughly 3–11% in studies).Increases fat oxidation during exercise and can blunt appetite earlier in the day.Loaded with polyphenols like chlorogenic acid that support liver health, reduce oxidative stress, and may lower risk of neurodegenerative disease—as long as you're not turning it into a 500-calorie dessert drink. Lean Beef or Bison (93–95% lean)High-protein, nutrient-dense source with iron, zinc, B12, creatine, and some omega-3s (especially in grass-fed and bison).Higher protein = more thermogenesis, more satiety, better lean-mass retention in a deficit.CLA and omega-3s are linked to reductions in visceral fat and improved metabolic health. Wild BlueberriesImprove insulin sensitivity and help stabilize blood sugar, reducing cravings.High in fiber plus powerhouse antioxidants and polyphenols (anthocyanins) that support brain health, BDNF, and mitochondrial protection.Wild varieties can have 2–3x the antioxidant load of regular blueberries. Broccoli (and other crucifers)Ultra high volume, low-calorie, fiber-rich—great for appetite control and blood sugar stability.Rich in sulforaphane, which activates NRF2 (your body's “master antioxidant switch”) to support detoxification, lower inflammation, and protect DNA from damage. Greek Yogurt (2% or Non-Fat)High in protein to preserve muscle and support metabolism during fat loss.Probiotics support gut health, digestion, inflammation, and immune function.Fermented dairy is linked to better microbiome diversity and improved longevity markersLeafy Greens (Spinach, Kale, Arugula, Romaine, etc.)Low-calorie, high-volume, packed with folate, vitamin K, magnesium, nitrates, and antioxidants.Support insulin sensitivity, stress management, cardiovascular health, and nitric oxide (better blood flow, performance… and erections).Simple habit: a “big-ass salad” at dinner most nights. Wild-Caught SalmonElite combo of high-quality protein and omega-3 fats (EPA + DHA).Helps improve insulin sensitivity, lower systemic inflammation, and reduce cardiovascular risk by ~25–35% in some research.Supports brain function, mood, joint health, and telomere protection—huge for longevity and preserving leanness as you age. Big TakeawaysYou don't need “fat-burning foods”—you need fat-loss friendly foods that make a calorie deficit sustainable.Focus on foods that either had a face or came from the ground: protein + fiber + micronutrients beat pills, potions, and powders.Start by consistently adding 2–3 of these foods into your daily rotation, then build from there. You'll receive insights on how we think about risk, timing, and dose, when we'll push harder on something like immune support to avoid medications, and where we'd rather you do nothing than experiment. A small, intentional stack can serve you better than chasing every trending supplement. You'll Learn:[00:00] Introduction[03:07] The overlooked problem with most prenatals and why ingredient form matters[04:30] The simple rule that prevents most women from absorbing iron properly[07:11] The hidden reason pregnant women shouldn't fear vitamin A[09:20] How magnesium becomes a multipurpose lifesaver for sleep, cramps, and digestion[09:55] The real vitamin D levels you should aim for[17:04] When probiotics actually matter in pregnancy, and when they don't[20:16] The surprising list of safe remedies you can use when you get sick while pregnant[27:05] The trending supplements that truly are safe[41:03] The herbs you must avoid because they disrupt hormones and fetal developmentResources Mentioned:Orthomolecular Vitamin D3 + K2 Drops | WebsiteHealthy as a Mother episode on Baby Brain Support in Pregnancy with Dr. Ari Calhoun | Spotify or AppleDr. Morgan's Managing Illness While Pregnant or Breastfeeding Course | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Leah:Dr. Leah Gordon | InstagramDr. Leah Gordon | WebsiteWomanhood Wellness | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Morgan:Dr. Morgan MacDermott | InstagramDr. Morgan MacDermott | WebsiteUse code HEALTHYMOTHER and save 15% at RedmondFor 20% off your first order at Needed, use code HEALTHYMOTHERSave $260 at Lumebox, use code HEALTHYASAMOTHERSave 10% on pasture-raised bone broths from FOND with code HEALTHYMOTHER

On this episode of Vitality Radio, Jared welcomes functional medicine dietitian and gut-health expert Lisa Smith for a deep dive into one of the most overlooked systems influencing hormone balance: the estrobolome. If you've never heard that word before, you're not alone — but by the end of this conversation you'll understand why the estrobolome may be the missing link in stubborn hormone symptoms, estrogen dominance, thyroid sluggishness, mood changes, and even men's testosterone challenges. Jared and Lisa break down how gut bacteria influence estrogen detoxification, what beta-glucuronidase is actually doing behind the scenes, why bile flow matters (especially if you don't have a gallbladder), and how fiber, cruciferous vegetables, and targeted nutrients can support healthy hormone metabolism. This is a practical, empowering discussion designed to help you understand root causes rather than chase symptoms. Whether you're navigating perimenopause, PCOS, thyroid issues, mood swings, stubborn weight, or low energy, this episode brings science down to earth with simple, realistic starting points for rebuilding gut balance and restoring hormonal resiliency — naturally and safely.Products:Precision ProbioticLiverVitality EndoCleanseAdditional Information:Pretty Well PodcastInstagramLisa Smith WellnessVisit the podcast website here: VitalityRadio.comYou can follow @vitalitynutritionbountiful and @vitalityradio on Instagram, or Vitality Radio and Vitality Nutrition on Facebook. Get My Brand Masterlist https://drchristiangonzalez.com/best-brands-form-2-2/ Get Probiotics Guide https://drchristiangonzalez.com/probiotic-pdf-request-form/ Episode Description You trust the probiotic label that says "clinically studied strains" and "supports gut health." But a shocking new investigation reveals most brands can't prove it. Dr. Christian Gonzalez reached out to 56 of the biggest probiotic companies—including Seed, VSL#3, Garden of Life, Ritual, and Thorne—with one simple request: show proof your strains survive stomach acid, maintain potency through expiration, and are tested for heavy metals, yeast, and mold contamination through Certificates of Analysis (COAs). The results? Fifty-three brands disappeared, dodged questions, or flat-out refused to respond. Only THREE companies could stand behind their claims with real data. This isn't about being picky—it's about protecting your gut microbiome, immune system, and mental health from paying premium prices for mystery powders. When you consume contaminated or ineffective probiotics daily, you're wasting money on dead bacteria that never colonize your gut—or worse, introducing toxins that worsen bloating, immune stress, and digestive dysfunction. The hidden problems lurking in popular probiotic supplements: • Dead on arrival strains that can't survive stomach acid or bile—rendering them completely useless before reaching your intestines • CFU deception: potency guaranteed only at manufacturing, not expiration—meaning you're getting a fraction of what's promised • Heavy metal contamination including lead, arsenic, and cadmium that accumulate in your system and disrupt gut healing • Mold, yeast, and bacterial contamination from compromised sourcing and manufacturing that can trigger inflammation and immune reactions • Unverified strain claims with zero genetic testing to prove what's actually in the capsule matches the label • Proprietary blends designed to hide inferior ingredients and avoid accountability for specific strain efficacy In this episode, Dr. Christian Gonzalez exposes the 2025 Probiotic Purity Audit and reveals: • The full list of 56 brands tested—and which major names refused to respond or failed safety and efficacy standards • The ONLY 3 probiotic brands that passed with radical transparency, clean COAs, survivability data, and verified potency at expiration • The $70+ billion marketing manipulation behind "clinically studied" and "gut health support" claims that mean nothing without third-party verification • Strain specificity: why this is the only metric that matters for true gut colonization and therapeutic benefit • How contaminated probiotics actively harm your microbiome, worsen digestive symptoms, and waste your money on expensive filler • The gut-brain axis disruption, immune dysfunction, and inflammatory cascade triggered by low-quality probiotic supplementation This episode goes beyond gut health—it's about understanding that your microbiome controls everything from mood and immunity to hormone balance and disease prevention. It's about taking back control of what colonizes your body every single day, and demanding transparency from an industry built on marketing hype, not real science. The probiotic industry doesn't want you asking these questions. But your gut health depends on it.
