Happy September!!! Since we are in back to school season, we thought it would be a perfect time to share our personal homeschool journeys, how we were called to this journey and some insight into what it looks like for each of our families. In part one of this 2-part series, we are going to share our personal convictions that led us to decide to homeschool, how we got to where we are today, some common misconceptions around homeschooling and our driving factor- knowing that our primary responsibility as Christian parents is to teach our kids about Jesus. In this week's episode, we talk about what a blessing children are and how in today's world, that can seem almost countercultural. We need to remember that God created our children and He chose us specifically to be their moms. There are many examples in the Bible where Jesus shows how valued children are and should be. And we need to remember that even when it's not possible for us to “fill our own cup” first, whenever possible we should go to the Word first and foremost - but even when that isn't possible, we can still turn to God to ask Him to fill our cup with His strength, patience and energy - whatever we need to be able to care for our children as He calls us to do. We pray that God will help us to always see our children as a gift from Him, especially through the hard decisions, hard days and hard seasons. We pray He will help us to put God first, to raise up godly children, to teach them to know & love Him, and that they would see the work of Jesus reflected in everything that we do. In response to so many tragic and evil things happening in our world recently, we have constantly seen questions like "why does God allow suffering?" or "If there is a God, how could He let something like this happen?" As a Christian, it can be so disheartening to hear those things and it can also bring up questions or doubts in our own mind as well as be difficult to answer someone asking those questions. To begin to answer these questions, we have to look all the way back to the first book of the Bible, in Genesis. We learn that in the begining, God created man and woman who were perfect and without sin. Sin entered the world when Eve was deceived by Satan and that is when humans were separated from God and a world with suffering and loss began. God does not CAUSE evil things and suffering to happen, those are a result of human choices and sin. Despite sin and suffering, we can find peace knowing that God is always in control and has a perfect plan, God is always with us to provide comfort and peace, God can make good out of all bad things and God will judge all in His perfect time. As believers we are not immune to that suffering, but instead of questioning God or blaming God, we must look to Him and trust His plan for our lives and for this world and know that He is in control, that He has a perfect plan that surpasses all human understanding, We dive deeper into this question and the scriptures on this week's podcast episode! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kyle-cloud/support
Abortion is a hot topic in our country right now with strong views in both directions. It is made into a political issue, but we are not going to get into political sides or topics. Today's world is full of controversy and politics. As Christians, we may feel pulled in many different directions when it comes to different topics and discussions. In this week's episode, Kyle discusses the enneagram. She shares her personal experience with the enneagram as well as discusses the origins and why it's so dangerous for Christians. The enneagram has infiltrated Christianity and many churches - some books on the topic even claim to be “Christian” but it is so far from being anything of God. If you're unfamiliar with the enneagram, it's a personality test of sorts that claims to be “an ancient personality test” - but that's not actually the case. It was created by Claudio Naranjo (within the last 100 years) and he says that he got the 9 enneagram types from “automatic writing” and his own observations. If you've never heard of “automatic writing” - basically it's messages from demons. Clearly not from God. For most who take this test, the results are very accurate which makes them so believable. However, Satan is deceptive and he knows us better than any human does because he's been around since creation. He takes just a little bit of truth to make it sound good, but then twists it to deceive us (he even tried this with Jesus in the desert!). That's what the enneagram is and does so we need to stay very far away from it. We need to remember that God's Word reveals who we ARE and who we are NOT - God created us, He knows us and He loves us! We pray that this episode finds you in a place where you need it, wherever you are in trying to discover yourself and your purpose in life. We pray that this points you to God to uncover who He created you to be and that you might turn to His Word & use discernment in everything you come across. We want you to be sure that everything you're using to better yourself is for God and for His glory. Mini-episode with a Bible Verse Breakdown. Sharing the context to help you better learn to read and understand the Bible and apply it to your own life. Joshua 24:15 “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kyle-cloud/support
In this week's episode we are discussing the new age movement and how dangerous it can be. New age practices are everywhere and so many people fall into them without even realizing. But new age practices are unconventional spiritual & therapeutic practices. To be clear, the new age movement is NOT a religion - there is no central leadership, no formal organization, no set laws or guidelines. It is an unbiblical worldview that so many Christians are adopting. Some of the most common practices that fall under the new age movement are: reincarnation; magic; taro; astrology; meditation; affirmations; psychics; self-love and self-actualization; manifestation; spiritual energy being in physical things (like trees or stones); energy around you (believing that you can influence the energy around you). Most people practice these in order to achieve peace, to reach their potential, to find success - to help wherever they might feel they are lacking. These practices deceive us into thinking that we have the power & control or that we can be like God. A hard question we ask you is that, if you can create all your dreams and become anything that you want, why would you need God? Without God, we are nothing. And with some of these new age practices, we are trying to take the role of God and create our own reality. But we can't do that because we are nothing without Him. Our value comes from God, not from within ourselves; not from the things of this world. It is through Christ and through His redeeming work that we can become who He created us to be and who He calls us to be. Our prayer for you is that if any of the things we say in this episode are convicting for you, that you would look to God. That He will work in your hearts to plant seeds that you need in order to help you turn away from anything in this world that may be taking you away from Him. That He would help you to know that He is all you need. In this episode we are diving into sanctification and what that means in our faith journey. The definition of sanctification is the action of making or declaring something holy; the action or process of being freed from sin or purified. This sounds a little like repentance and they definitely go hand-in-hand, but they're different. In the process of sanctification, you are becoming more holy, more Christ-like. You're turning away from past sins because you have learned through time in His Word and having the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, guiding you to repentance. And in repentance, you're asking forgiveness for those past sins in order to walk away from them and be changed in so many ways. The process of sanctification or being sanctified doesn't happen overnight and it also doesn't happen without any effort on our part. We have to grow in our relationship with God by reading our Bible daily and praying without ceasing. This is a progressive process and it never ends - we're constantly growing. We're also human so we'll never be without sin which is why we also need repentance. But we have to live in obedience to God, trust Him and His plan for our lives and surrender fully to Him. We pray that God would wrap His arms around each of you. That He would draw you near to Him, changing your hearts & minds and that He would help you turn away from your sins just as He has done and is still doing for us. Scriptures referenced in this episode: 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7; the book of 1 Peter (for several references to being exiled); 2 Corinthians 7:1 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kyle-cloud/support
First and foremost we would like to issue an apology. We have had the very best intentions with this show and have recommended some resources in previous episodes that we felt could be helpful to you but we have since learned that some may not be biblically sound and therefore we sincerely apologize for some of those recommendations. Unfortunately, the “Christian industry” is full of false teaching and the Bible warns us about this. Just because something may be called a Christian resource or is found in the Christian section of a bookstore, doesn't mean it's biblically sound. Knowing what we know now (after researching and careful study of God's Word), we wouldn't want to lead anyone to any resource or teacher that isn't biblically sound. In this episode we are also discussing discernment. On the whole, discernment means simply, the ability to judge well. However, Christian or spiritual discernment is more in depth. Spiritual discernment is a decision making process in which an individual makes a discovery that can lead to future action. Please note, discernment is a spiritual gift that is spoken about in the Bible and not everyone has that gift, the GIFT of discernment. However, that is different from USING discernment, which is something we all can do. There is a lot of misinformation out there so that's why it's so important that we know the Truth by being in our Bible every day. It is our job as Christ followers to know the Truth and to use discernment to decipher info we're given and decide if it's aligned with God's Word. We pray that the info we share in this episode is edifying to you and that it helps you to grow in God's Word. Welcome to Her Journey by Faith! We are your hosts, Kyle Cloud and Sabrina Hedgpeth. We're wives and moms on a mission to equip ourselves and other women with the Gospel. We've both seen drastic changes in our lives as we've learned to surrender our plans to God and follow Him in obedience. We pray that this podcast will speak to you, help to reveal some of God's truth in your life and that you will learn to surrender to Him. In this episode, we're going to discuss the “Do What Makes You Happy” culture. If you're not familiar with that concept, give this episode a listen! We are going to take a few popular quotes/sayings from this popular culture, break down why they can be dangerous & harmful and how they can pull us away from the bible. Quote #1: “Do what makes you happy.” Quote #2: “Follow your heart.” Quote #3: “You can do anything.” "The ‘do what makes you happy' culture is so toxic for Christians. We are not called to do what makes us happy. We are called to do what glorifies God. Christianity isn't always sunshine and happiness. It is hard work and dedication to Him, not us. Do what glorifies God." -Unknown Source Of course, God wants us to enjoy the things on earth that He created for us, but He wants us to do things that glorify Him - things that make us holy and more like Jesus Christ so we can portray that to the world. Our prayer for you, if you find yourself in the midst of this culture, is that God would bring about His truth and guide you to His word so that you are sanctified and convicted to fulfill God's plan and purpose for your life. That you would surrender all the desires of the flesh and trust that God has the best plan in store for you!
