It's that time of the season where we take a dive into a cold case. This one is unique in that we will also tell the stories of Levon Brooks and Kennedy Brewer, 2 men whose lives were changed unjustly while the crimes against Courtney and Christine went unsolved. This is a story and project, we hope to spread awareness and offer support. If you would like to support the Innocence Project, please do so here: https://innocenceproject.org/

Its that time of year again where Shayla and I reflect on some takeaways from last year. In this episode we discuss the power of Redirecting & Surrendering and the impacts it can have on us personally and socially when trying to move through our journeys. In this episode we get real about some of the shifts in perspectives and beliefs we had to move through unexpectedly and how we got through it. You won't want to miss it!
In continuation of our recent series on Black World History we are revisiting the history of Aboriginal people and Australia. There is so much history we weren't able to cover and still aren't able to dive into but we felt this one needed a deeper dive to better understand the long history of the Aboriginal History and their journey to be treated as citizens. This one is an amazing history lesson, and you won't want to miss this. Disclaimer: Shayla and I are not historians, we just find value in the history of the diaspora. Although we would love access to more in depth historical artifacts to validate our findings on Google. Google is all we have, but we wouldn't be Melanated Intellects if we didn't dive into the stories of the African Diaspora anyway. With this said, please enjoy and allow this to spark your curiosity to do your own research and dive in further to these important moments/times and chapters in history. Timeline: 1900's - Racism. Who Killed Malcolm X? A question many of us, although there have been arrests, are still unfortunately left with. In this episode, Shayla and I unpack the profound Netflix Documentary: Who Killed Malcolm X along with other history we have learned in our research over the years of the life of Malcolm. We also discuss the facts and circumstances around his murder and why we consider it to still be a cold case. If you have not watched the documentary, we provide a lot of information but we don't come close to the documentary so it is highly recommended you still watch it but regardless, I definitely encourage you to take a listen, you won't want to miss this one as there are still so many questions.

TRIGGER WARNING: We will be periodically dedicating an episode to a melanated cold case throughout the season as we hope to shed more light on these stories. In March of 1991, nearly two weeks after the Rodney King beating, LaTasha Harlins lost her life. She was killed by Soon Ja Du, a Korean convenience store owner over the purchase of a bottle of orange juice. Soon Ja Du was convicted and found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and recommended to serve 10 years in state prison by the jury. However, Judge Joyce Karlin decided to give her a lenient sentence of $500 fine, 400 hours of community service, and 5 years of probation with no jail time. Due to the timing of the incident LaTasha's case did not receive the media attention that Rodney King's did. Also, in this episode we decided to speak about the surprising most recent updates in Breonna Taylor's case, how we feel about all the recent discoveries, and our feelings about both of these cases even though they happened nearly 30 years apart.
