Rebecca McLaughlin and Amber discuss the value of intellectual curiosity for the Christian, engaging secular literature to enrich one's belief in Jesus, sexual ethics in our post Christian world, and more. Questions Discussed During Intellects Are Christians Too: (3:50) You've said, "My parents gave me such a strong sense growing up that Christians should be the most intellectually curious people in town. I was not in any way raised with the anti intellectualism that can be characteristic of American evangelicalism..." Will you expound on that a little bit and why you have found that to be crucial to your faith when people do object to it? (11:20) Something I appreciate about your work as an Apologist is the humility with which you engage difficult questions of the faith. It is a tone that is often missing in the world of Christian apologetics. What's it like to engage in the world of apologetics with more of a humble heart toward the difficult topics? (17:51) How do you encourage Christians to engage thoughtfully on the topic, of purity, same sex attraction, etc. in our current culture? (29:52) What did you hope the reader would take away from one of your more recent books, Jesus Through the Eyes of Women? (33:30) Why do you believe engaging in secular stories, as well as the Bible, enriches your belief in Jesus vs. leading you astray? (37:59) Let's close with, outside of God's Word, what are some books/authors/fellow Christians who have helped shape you into the follower of Jesus you are today? SHOW NOTES cont. TRIGGER WARNING: This book was on our summer reading list, and we couldn't wait to share our thoughts with our Intellects community. It was a fascinating read. Dr. Joy DeGruy defines Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome or PTSS as a condition that exists when a population has experienced multigenerational trauma resulting from centuries of slavery and continues to experience oppression and institutionalized racism today. Added to this condition is a belief that the benefits of the society in which they live are not accessible to them. In this episode, we walk our listeners through the first few sections of the book discussing everything from how our history impacts our children in the classroom to why relationships are so important within the African American community. We unpack so much in this episode, but we are just getting started/ Make sure you tune in to part 2 & 3 of this discussion as well. "A man gotta have a code" - Michael K. Williams as Omar Little. This week The Vexed Intellects discuss "man code" on a plethora of topics. Drake released his long awaited album "Certified Lover Boy" to much fan fare. The 21-song opus is projected to sell over 600k units in it's 1st week of release. Though the vast majority of conversations surrounding the release were positive, many people criticized the Canadian-born star for leaking an unreleased recording of a song left off Kanye West's 'Donda' album featuring a beautiful, sincere tribute verse to his late Mother from the legendary Andre 3000. Drake was also heavily criticized for having troubled R&B singer R. Kelly credited on his song "TSU' which contains a sample from one of Kelly's previous works. Was the 3000 verse leak a violation? Or Is all fair in rap beef? The Intellects discuss... Plus... The Texas abortion bill, Joe Rogan's home COVID treatment, California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder on reparations for slave owners with Candice Owens, black nerds(blerds) & desirability or lack there of fun black women, dating phobias, & a WILD story about a guy who went to a Waffle House restaurant weekly to engage in fisticuffs with a cook over "principle" & runny eggs...... This week the Vexed Intellects (with special guest Tonya Cole) discuss the continuing saga of rapper DaBaby as famed music festivals Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, & Music Midtown (among others) removed the Interscope Records recording artist from their lineups following controversial comments made during his performance at Rolling Loud Miami. DaBaby has since apologized (twice) for the offensive comments, but continues to lose opportunities. As culture critics DJ Akademiks & Dr. Boyce Watkins question if the "morality" play by the festivals is hypocritical, artists like Elton John, Madonna, Questlove, & others chimed in to publicly chastise the rapper causing many people on the social media timeline(s) to ask if this is considered piling on at this point. Is it virtue signaling? How "accountable" should we hold a young, admittedly uninformed artist? The Intellects unpack the many layers to this topic, plus... Intimacy without commitment, paying for sex, reciprocating effort, "settling" in relationships, attracting the right partner, "boyfriend" d*ck vs "one-night stand" d*ck, & a follow-up to the "what do you bring to the table" conversation. The big dog of the Intellectual Dark Web, Jordan Peterson, is back! And this hero, this mythical archetype, is welcomed back from his long hiatus by DTG regular, Bret Weinstein . To his credit, Bret does the impossible and makes Jordan seem surprisingly humble and reflexive simply by virtue of comparison. The duo cover a lot of territory, ranging from hot takes about how hospitals probably kill more people than they save (Peterson), the evolutionary modules controlling rape and genocide (Weinstein), how religion contains the ultimate evolutionary cheatsheet to ascend the hierarchy (Peterson), and how they are both absolutely crucial for understanding everything wrong with what's going on these days (BOTH). So yes... Chris and Matt couldn't resist returning to this epic crossover of two guru favourites one last(?) time for a bit of decoding. There's a heaping of the usual trademark guru dynamics on display, as well as the obligatory ersatz academ-ese, mutual back-patting, and huge leaps of speculative reasoning. These guys ping-pong back and forth to build up a pretty impressive synthesis of latent religious symbols and Bret's bespoke alternative evolutionary theory of 'lineage selection'. You will come away with your brain a smouldering ruin after dealing with so many high level ideas... you have been warned! P.S. If you make it all the way to the end you'll get to hear Matt DESTROY a so-called philosopher's Low Quality Criticism with REASON and SCIENCE. Kwame Brown & Nick Cannon are proving with incredible efficiency that one man is more than capable of handling several suitors at once. As Nick continues to be fruitful with the seed of life, Kwame continues to unleash verbal Mortal Kombat as he berates his many detractors with "Mama's cooking" from the comfort of his own home (and truck) on his YouTube channel: "The Bust Life". This week The Vexed Intellects discuss the many adventures of these two gentlemen plus... Dominique Wilkins claims racial discrimination, Dwyane Wade shares his thoughts on who should lead in marriage, A-Rod creates a male make-up line, & some straight men claim that a bromance consists of kissing & cuddling other straight men. The guys also discuss whether or not you should check 1st & request permission before venting/unloading your problems onto someone. And when I say "Intellect," I don't define it as a characteristic or trait, but as a personality type. Dr. Fauci is narrowly focused on his particular data sets, doesn't understand your life, your financial circumstances, or your child's well-being. This man doesn't even follow his own mask-wearing advice. Intellects are great, they serve a purpose. But don't be a blind loyalist because they can lead you down the wrong path. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bbq2movies/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bbq2movies/support

On this week's episode all the normal cast of characters are back in the building!!! The show starts with a sad rendition/treatise on the NYC dialect. Jamison goes on to inquire about Mr. Damn Himself's state of mind. A quick reminder to everyone...Holiday Depression is REAL!. If you feel you're having trouble coping, call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 We go on to briefly discuss the COVID vaccine… taking it quickly or nah? A resounding no but a loosening of opinion by Jamison St. James. The conversation turns to the launching of movies on the HBO MAX instead of theatre only. The conversation turns to a quick discussion on the Georgia Runoff. Go Vote!!! The team goes on to give Ossoff the real man of genius award for debating an empty podium in the final debate of this election cycle. The show goes on to remind our listeners of the cowardice of those that are looking to garner your vote. On another note… Do we need the check and balance for the executive office? The fellas bring back a story from last week to let the people know there was resounding support for the Texas restaurant that caught flack last week. The show turns to WTF (46:00) for some very crazy stories you must hear to believe. The show moves (59:00) to the cancel culture for the City Girls and Leticia Wright from Black Panther. The cancellations go on to even challenge Obama and his conversation around “defunding the police”. We are all for defunding the police in a smart way that redirects funds away from policing to reduce the occurrence of arrests. This main topic for tonight is Kevin Samuels unfortunate interaction with a young lady around looks that went viral. The Intellects share their thoughts...relax, we are fair. The Intellects wrestle with the correct direction to go. The conversation begins to talk about programs and access. The conversation does a 180 and discusses a married woman that says she's happy not being in a relationship with the love of your life. Is the love of your life the person you're supposed to be with? This devolves into a conversation about relationships and duties. This and so much more... #GetVexed and Enjoy!

First off RIP to the great Chadwick Boseman…. On this week's episode of the Vexed Intellects the guys start off with a low calorie all organic hip hop rendition from the new Vanilla Ice aka Nicole Ritchie. They discuss heavy topics of today around the great work in Georgia busting up the sex trafficking ring and the utter disgust fort the district attorneys office attempt to use Breonna Taylor's ex boyfriend as a pawn in defending the senseless murder. The Intellects go on to discuss black excellence as they cover some amazing banking power moves and mergers inside the black community. These moves set the community up for enhanced reinvesting power that fly in the face of the insidious policies around Missouri gun laws, incomprehensible support for the murdering Kyle Rittenhouse and overall “fear of a black planet” narrative being used by 45's re-election campaign to activate his base. If you are looking for a good like you can't miss the treatise on Dollar Store and discount store steaks. We will let you be the judge. All of that and so much more! Enjoy and #GETVEXED
