It's finally here! The last episode of 2022 and the last matchup of the first round of the Boat Bracket. We talk a little about future plans, a little about sports cuz we are major sportos and a lot about silver linings playbook and Godzilla.
We decided to do something different to celebrate the scariest night of the year, we did a quick Halloween movie bracket to find out the beset halloween movies of all time!
You trek through the forest, past multiple dead director's heads and bodies, and as you enter a clearing that feels like it was built on a sound stage, a giant man-sized creature leaps out at you, growling menacingly. Do you stab it with a knife, and skin it because it was the only thing you've ever loved? Or do you smack the crap out of them until they cry? Well today we find out as Tropic Thunder goes up against the Wizard of Oz, have fun!
Well Howdy there partners, this month on the podcast, we are looking at Mel Brooks' 1974 satirical comedy Blazing Saddles, and Quentin Tarantino's 2012 pre-slavery epic Django Unchained. How does Bart and the Waco Kid hold up against Django and Dr. Schultz? Tune in to find out!
This month on the podcast, we are all about atmosphere. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist provides an alt scene vibe to soften the most jaded millennial. Can it rock its way to the next round, or will we travel to an alternate dimension of whimsy in the Grand Budapest Hotel? Whatever mood you are in, put on your rose tinted glasses and escape into the world of these nostalgia bombs!
We return to the winner of our play in bracket Con Air, as it faces down Ryan's #1 pick, Weathering with You. Will these Cons have what it takes to take down the modern anime darling? Or will it be sunny skies for Hinata and Hodaka? Tune in to find out, also this week was a bit weird, so the pod is a little longer and split, Ryan and Wally start, and Grant and Wally follow up! (Thank god, Ryan won't shut up! ;)
Welcome back to the BOAT everyone, Grant's picks continue as the ultimate silly RomCom Notting Hill goes up against the Finale of the Star Wars original trilogy: Return of the Jedi. Can Star Wars Tatoo-win, or will we choose Notting Hill to die on? Either way will be having a Shittity Brickety and make sure to have you back on the streets, but not in a prostitute way, in know time!
This month on the podcast, we are pitting the 1995 film Apollo 13 against Hercules, the Disney animated movie from 1997. So this is a battle of the 90s darlings. Can the star studded cast and drama of space race catastrophe top the uplifting story of a super powered dude not be satisfied with just being super powerful? Will the sass and attitude beat out the truly heartwarming story of a globe coming together to bring these flyboys home? Lets see. Also includes a stirring rendition of “I won't say I'm In Love” by our own Grant Luberda
Mixing up the schedule a bit to do an in person watch along of the superior form of robot justice: ROBOMUNK. This was our first attempt at the type of record, I apologize if it is not at the quality level we usually are at. If you are interested in more (and better) versions of this in the future, sound off on your favorite social media pages, the BOAT Podcast facebook, instagram, or twitter.
Welcome back to BOAT you landlubbers, as you get your sea legs, we are finishing up the first half of round one of the BOAT bracket, putting Spiderman 2 up against Robocop. Can the Detroit Thicc bootied boi take down the web-slinging pizza munching photographer? Or will spidey chomp down on more than just a classic NEW YORK STREET CART HOTDOG? Please feel free to reach out and follow up on facebook at Best of All Time Podcast, Instagram @Boat_pod or twitter @BoaT_pod
The next challenge is decided, Twelve Angry Men faces off against Twister. Does the AFI's #87 long Dorothy and stop this twister in its tracks? Or will the weather monstrosity blow this case away. There's heated and mostly one-sided debate, and a lovely discussion of special effects and Grant's charismatic connect to Bill Paxton. We hope you enjoy, and make sure to follow up on facebook, instagram, and twitter to hear the latest updates!
Because you all have been the goodest little girls and boys, we decided to record a shorter episode of each of our top 4 favorite holiday movies of all time, and we run through a tiny bracket to determine which is the best! Really running the gambit between animation vs. real world, old vs. new, and stupid vs. emotionally tear-jerking. We hope you enjoy, and we can't wait to see you again in 2022! Love from your BOAT Boys: Ryan, Grant, and Wally! Also Congratulations to Grant and his lovely wife Casey on welcoming their adorable baby into the world, Wally and I are so excited and wish them well as they enter parenthood!!!
In yet another battle of the epic narratives, Movie two of The Lord of the Rings trilogy takes on the not so little panda that could. Do the Hobbits have what it takes to become the dragon warrior, or will Po skedoosh them into oblivion. On this podcast, we are joined by LOTR Fan boy Sean Quinn, who blows the top off the podcast in the most spectacular way! Check our our facebook, twitter, or instagram to learn more. Or you could just keep listening ;)
Oh No, we have thrown the schedule completely out of wack to bring friend of the podcast Ryan O'regan on to discuss two of his nominees for the Best Movie of All Time, Nicholas Cage's 1997 movie Conair, or the Carey Grant-Rosalind Russell 1940s Comedy His Girl Friday. We delve into quite a few different movies in this discussion, and Grant comes up with a brand new way to tell the classic Jesus vs. the Devil in the desert story. Ryan came in with a bunch of wonderful suggestions, and he recommended also watching both the 1931 film The Front Page, which His Girl Friday was based on, as well as The Hudsucker Proxy, a 1994 Coen Brothers film that was influenced by His Girl Friday. Conair stands alone. Also We will have a vote up on our twitter account this next week to vote on your favorite of the two, and we will be checking our facebook comments on this months post to include for voting as well. Love Y'all, Bye
Can Atom topple Indy? Two father/son stories with two wildly different resolutions. Buckle up folks because Ryan is on a tear against one of these films. Is he being severely obstinate for no apparent reason? Probably. Is he also writing this bio after editing the podcast and feeling pretty ashamed that he couldn't develop an argument in the moment that highlighted the weird father son dynamic in real steel? Definitely. Does he expected anyone in their right mind to read this far into the description to realize that he is a broken child at heart who has significant daddy issues. The world may never know! (If you have read this far congratulations, you get the keys to my candy factory, please feel free to wantonly murder children and enslave an entire race....looking at you Chalamet)
The battle of the franchise starters, this month we dig into Iron Man and Jurassic Park. Will the T-Rex deus ex machina his way into victory of the tin titan, or will iron man push his way into the sweet 16 with nothing but missile parts, car batteries, and a very nice cave? Tune in to find out
Horror Vs. Monsters. Who will win in the battle of the the scaries. Ryan's 10th ranked pick Vs. Wally's 6th.
As we embark on this maiden voyage through the BOAT (Best of All Time) Bracket. We take a look at two movies that could not be more different. One an anachronistic masterpiece of medieval love, adventure, and sports. The other, a timeless biblical epic that to this day enthralls movie goers young and old. The BOAT Podcast is Ryan Quinn, Walter Trush, and Grant Luberda. Follow the BOAT podcast on instagram at BOAT_Pod, and subscribe on your podcast app. Next time's match-up The Host Vs. 1917
In our second matchup of the first round: Walter's pick of The Host goes up against Ryan's pick of 1917, will the technical marvel of 1917 beat out the dark comedy and social critiques of The Host? Find out now!
Howdy y'all, your two favorite cowpokes are back and ready to reach for the sky with the Rootin-est Tootin-est franchise of the Disney pantheon. All your favorites are back, beta-male cowboy, unconscious space cadet, and featuring a fife, no wait, a knoon, no thats not right, oh a sporfe. The Fuks discuss what makes a good animated movie, and how a franchise as memorable as Toy Story can do something new and different when a series like the incredibles couldn't. Are dummies just dummies, and when is dad getting out of jail? Find out on the latest episode of The Film Fuks!! And as always, enjoy ;)
In a beautiful act of jumping down a bunch of different rabbit holes, Walter and Ryan re-open the cold case file on just who framed Roger rabbit. Where does this movie stand in the pantheon of entertainment. Are the at the time cutting edge effects something to be cherished, or has the advances in CGI shown that this movie is as disconnected and dated as the noire films it seeks to emulate and flatulate. No commercial or fuking with this week, so guys, check out Good Omens and Amazon Prime, its really amazing and is super big budget for a series like this. Also go to Costco and grab a pack of those cinnamon bread loafs. Cavities for days but I'm dying in a very lovely diabetic coma. As always, enjoy and watch out for the Dip.
I'm going to be honest, I think this is the most analytical we have been as a podcast, and its supremely comedic that it occurred on what I would say is a very simple franchise. The Fuks break down how the new Godzilla film not only brings in the best aspects of the past iterations, but also how its Kaiju-centric story spans genres and takes many aspects for critically renowned movies. Dive in and discover the intricacies with us, and as always, enjoy.
This week, we welcome a unique guest, and try and muddle through the confusing backstory and remarkable stunts in the latest iteration of the John Wick series. In a dog-obsessed world, can one man singlehandedly destroy the entire world...no we aren't talking about Brightburn the movie about an evil superhero. The sponsor this week is a local knife shop, who just can't seem to keep their knives on the shelves and out of dead bodies, can our special guest offer them a shark tank deal of a lifetime, or will this shop get chopped, lets find out!
So as an apology for the missing audio from the last episode, I decided to release our Detective Pikachu review as well. It's shocking, and looks incredible but does this movie really capture the spirit of the franchise and bring it into the real world? The jury is out. Also we had a lovely special guest this week, Ms. Hannah Terpstra!
Hello all, well the Wizard decided to fuk around, and some of the audio was lost for this episode. It has no effect on the episode, its a three hour movie so we talked forever about it. No Sponsor, many spoilers, is this the end of our interest in the series, probably, will we see Spiderman Far from Home? sure. Have fun, enjoy, and we love ya 3000!
It's inconceivable that we actually saw this God damn overrated movie, but our rabid fanbase was calling for it so as you wish. Okay now I'm through the quoting crap, here's the real rundown, we have yet another 3 minute summary by Grant Luberda, and we talk about the good, the bad, and the completely irrational criticisms that we have about this movie. The sponsor this week is a torture emporium that you'll be dying (or almost dying) to try. Hope you enjoy and please stay away from grandpa touchy, he is a pedophile.
The Fuks shift from evil twins to evil Jude Law. Is Captain Marvel truly the savior of the Marvel universe that with finally defeat Thanos? Or will Ant-Man make the ultimate sacrifice and explore Thanos' colon?
Hello again, on this episode, the Fuks go scary with the newest film by Jordan Peele, Us. They struggle through what to think about the sociological criticisms of this movie, and theres also a short summary by one of our favorite friends, the cum cuck lord Grant.
HEY everyone, guess who's back on the podcast? pandalover69? Grant? No! It's our formerly dead honorary cohost Karl! The gang sits down to debate the intricacies of teen romance and gruesome action sequences in Alita: Battle Angel. While the action sequences felt very 80s and very manga, the rollerball spinoff fell short of providing the character development we cultured 25-26 year olds crave. Can we officially nix the phrase "You the most human person I've ever met" from all future movies please and thanks. The Sponsor today is Motorball, coming to an arena near you in like 500 years, but only on Sundays and only after the monster truck rally. honestly the event was so loud and confusing that I don think the sport actually has rules. Finally we have a much needed update of Karl and the Wizard's romance, and a special segment call Walter's Sour Patch, Sour Smash, Sugar Crash, where we try a few new products from the children in the sour patch. Enjoy! Also for anyone who actually reads this, I as a total asshole in this episode, so just be ready for me to make wild accusations and aggressive arguments against my kind cohosts. Dictated but not read by Ryan.
On this month's Rewind, Wally and Ryan fall through a portal into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where water is abundant and the only true resource of worth is oil. Can the bride of Frankenstein conquer middle aged Rufio and a man with so much muscle that he can literally flex his skull and ride off into the sunset with is best friend in a crashed helicopter? That's so specific it just has to be true! This week, our sponsor offers the perfect product for surviving a desert wasteland where your main form of transportation is a motorcycle. Enjoy feeling your back butt pressed up against your friends front butt in George and Simon's Royal Corgi Ass-Less Chaps, available now on post-apocalyptic amazon (along with Amazon River Ocean Water).
This week, we dive deep into a romantic comedy that maybe shouldn't have been talked about for as long as we do. We spend way too long talking about Pete Davidson, but we mainly talk about how to really throw a great bachelorette party and the best way to read people in poker. Will this movie have the social impact that What Women Want had, being the highest grossing female directed movie at the time? probably not, but it will definitely be something that anyone who is at all liberal will leave the theater thinking "why are we still making movies like this?" The Sponsor this week is Fiji water, and trust us, it will get you fuked up and possibly will allow you to read minds.
Hey everyone, sorry we are uploading a little bit late after saying we would have a serious schedule, we are working on getting a few more professional touches and working on that made me slip up a bit with the post. The Rugrats is quite a quintessential part of our childhood, and possibly yours too! Does this movie hold up to the scrutiny of time or does it have a truly stinky diapy? The advertiser this week is a brand new pizza joint that is becoming a sensation across France! Enjoy!
The incredible conclusion to a 19 year saga, M. Night Shyamalan tries to subvert the tropes we have seen almost bimonthly with superhero movies. Definitely some conflicting thoughts on this movie, but hopefully all our listeners will agree with Ryan because frankly he's right, M. Night Shyamalan has thought a little more about this series than Wally gives them credit for. (can you tell at this point who writes these descriptions.....I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count). The sponsor this week kind of left a bad taste in our mouths, so we cut it off before the frankly horrifying testimonies of a new ride at 20 flags.
The Fuks take on king of anime as they review the much anticipated DragonBall Super: Broly. Did they Super Saiyans impress the fuks or should the movie be put to bed like Master Roshi's perverted come ons to Bulma, also how much training can Goku really do? The Sponsor this week is offering a really cool new type of diet pill? pre/post-workout? candy confection? whatever it is, I hope you can get your hands on it (cuz we sure couldn't!)
Christmas Time means the Fuks bring on some close friends on to discuss the latest in DC's Cinematic Universe film: Aquaman. Between discussions of how Aquaman ranks within the pantheon of arguably bad DC movies, and trying to break down whether humanoid sea/space monsters can be more than the cheesy set pieces they have been historically, the Fuks dig deep into a movie that defies being analyzed critically. Hope you enjoy! This week's sponsor: Gordan Fisherman's Man/Fish sticks
WE ARE BACK BABY!! Getting back to our roots, Karl joins the Fuks once again to talk about the best Spiderman movie ever made! (Whattt?!?!?) We have a new sponsor as well, so enjoy the very strange ad copy they gave us I swear we read it word for word, and finally we review a delicious gluten free wedding cake option for our friend Ryan's state-side wedding reception. Enjoy!
Between discussions of washboard abs, large Johnsons, and very specific flashbacks, the Fuks tackle on the the best movies of the year. This episode is extra long because we threw in an extra segment discussing what to munch and what to pass on at the movie snack bar. Enjoy
Does this modern classic truly meet the Film Fuk standards? Find out on the latest episode of THE FILM FUKS!!!
From the inconsistencies to the outrageous tonal problems and a horrible misuse of Jenny Slate, the Film Fuks and Karl look at the newest non-MCU marvel movie Venom. The film Fuks is a relatively new podcast, so we would love to hear from you all with any questions, comments, and criticisms to better improve our format and possibly introduce some new segments. Email for segments: askthefuks@gmail.com Comments/criticisms: filmfuks@gmail.com
