Is Canada ready to step onto the Eurovision stage, and what would that say about how the country sees its cultural role internationally? After the federal government said in the 2025 budget that it was "working with CBC/Radio-Canada to explore Canada's participation in Eurovision," questions remain about how such a move would work, what it would cost, and whether it is a gamble worth taking. From Ottawa, Nomi Claire Lazar, professor of public and international affairs at the University of Ottawa, examines the political and public value of the proposal, while Toronto-based Brock University adjunct professor Karen Fricker brings a critical perspective shaped by her long engagement with Eurovision as a cultural institution. We then look inward, to the cultural legacy Canada has already built. Toronto-made children's television, from Mr. Dressup and Degrassi to Polka Dot Door and Today's Special, shaped generations of viewers in Ontario and beyond. Rundown producer Colin Ellis speaks with cultural historian Ed Conroy about his new book, ImagiNation: The Golden Age of Toronto Kids' TV, and why revisiting these shows is not just an exercise in nostalgia but a way of understanding how public broadcasting, cultural ambition, and national identity have been constructed and contested over time.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Tragically Hip On Shuffle - Live Stream: An Inch an HourWhat does a song about slow-moving things sound like at 150 BPMs? Apparently, it sounds like this. jD and the panel dig deep into 'An Inch an Hour' — track 11 from "Day for Night," one of the most layered records The Tragically Hip ever made, and one that keeps revealing new angles the harder you look. This week's panel is three returning panelists who somehow decided it was okay to come back: Ian from Maple Ridge, Duxoop from Toledo, and Tom from New York. Together they pull apart the glacier metaphor hidden inside a riff that rips, chase down the Springside Park reference (the water there is the colour of tea, and yes, that matters), debate whether the f-bomb in verse two is the reason this song never cracked radio, and reckon with what it means to let a record this good gather dust at the back of the shelf.Duxoop brought the research. Tom did the math — and the math checks out. Ian brought the imagery of Gord on a tour bus, watching the world fly past at highway speed, throwing a finished book over his shoulder. There's a Trudeau reference in there, a possible Mr. Dressup callback, and a punk rock moment in the second line that you'll never unhear once it's pointed out. This one also opened with a shoutout to everyone who showed up — virtually, physically, spiritually — for An Evening for Sara J. The $5,000 goal was set. By all accounts, it was cleared. The abacus is back from the shop. More on that as the numbers land. Also: Ian's tribute band, Gift Shop, has four shows coming up in BC this spring and summer — including an August 20th night in Vancouver marking ten years since the final show. Worth your time. Worth the ticket.PanelistsIan from Maple Ridge, BC — Frontman of Gift Shop, a Tragically Hip tribute band based in British Columbia. Catch them at Club 240 in Crescent Beach (April 18), the Roxy in Vancouver (May 1), Shaw Deep Cove Theatre in North Van (June 27), and the Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver (August 20). Tickets and info at giftshophipband.ca.Duxoop from Toledo, OH — A founding member of this community who found the TTH Podcast Series by typing 'Tragically Hip' into a podcast app and stumbling onto Fully & Completely. He rebuilt his YouTube playlist from scratch — over 500 songs, every solo project, every side door into the catalogue. Find it at Chronologically Hip.Tom from New York — Two for two on "Day for Night" episodes, and deeply committed to sitting with a record properly before showing up. He owns the half-speed remaster and he'll tell you why that matters.Song DetailsAn Inch an Hour — Track 11, "Day for Night" (1994)Produced by Mark Howard, Mark Regan, and The Tragically HipReleased September 19, 1994Live debut: Molson Park, July 1, 1994 (jD was there)Last played: January 20, 2013Ended at #57 on the TTHTop40 CountdownPlayed approximately 43 times total over the band's career — tied for 98th with 'Pretend'Tonight's version came from the "We Are the Same" tour acoustic setSource: setlist data and catalogue info drawn from Hipbase and HipMuseum. Voice Of Costume - Creating Character through Costume Design
In this inspiring deep dive, Virgin River costume designer Judith Feller shares her journey from a wildly imaginative childhood—playing dress-up on a remote farm—to shaping the visual identity of one of Netflix's most beloved series. Feller unpacks how creativity, limited resources, and a hands-on upbringing fueled her passion for fashion, eventually leading her from fashion design into film and television. She reveals the realities of breaking into the industry—starting at the bottom, grinding through years of on-set roles, and even launching her own clothing line before returning to costume design with a sharper creative voice. The conversation dives into the art of character-driven wardrobe, exploring how she refreshed Virgin River in Season 7—balancing continuity with subtle evolution. From refining silhouettes and reducing visual repetition to crafting standout looks for destination episodes and Western-inspired storylines, Feller highlights the delicate dance between storytelling, actor comfort, and audience expectations. She also offers powerful insights into collaboration, resilience, and creative adaptability—emphasizing that success in film and TV costume design isn't about control, but about flexibility, teamwork, and letting go. This episode is packed with insights on: Costume design shaping story and character Breaking into film industry careers Fashion to film career transition Evolving style in long-running series Collaboration across film production teams Balancing actor comfort and visual storytelling Creative resilience, burnout, and adaptability The "Voice of Costume" is the first podcast created between working costume designers sharing stories, inspiration, struggles, and insights into the creative career of costume design. A behind-the-scenes podcast to showcase the voices of Costume Designers around the world. Listen in on this inspirational, one-on-one conversation with Catherine Baumgardner. In this message, Eric explores what Jesus meant when He announced, “The kingdom of God has come near.” Many people think of the gospel as how we begin following Jesus, but Jesus presents it as something much bigger—His reign over every part of life. Looking at Palm Sunday and Jesus clearing the temple, we see what kind of King He is: gentle, yet confrontational toward power structures that block people from God. While religious leaders resist Him, the blind, the lame, and children move toward Him—and He moves toward them. This message challenges us to ask: Do we see ourselves as self-sufficient, or as people in need? Because the good news is not for those who think they have it all together, but for those who know they don't.

Assassin's Creed III recreates many key events from the American Revolution, including the Boston Tea Party, when colonists resisted British taxes by dumping tea into Boston Harbor. But the game challenges the popular perception of the protest as a pure and noble defiance of tyranny. In fact, the legend of the Party started to develop nearly half a century after the event. What were the true motives of the Sons of Liberty? Did they really dress up as Native Americans? Was the Boston Tea Party as impactful as its reputation suggests? And how much tea did they destroy?Matt Lewis is joined by Prof. James Fichter, author of Tea: Consumption, Politics, and Revolution 1773-1776, to explain the real intentions and outcomes of the Boston Tea Party.Listen to our previous expert chats about the Declaration Of Independence and the Battles of Lexington & Conchord.Echoes of History is a Ubisoft podcast, brought to you by History Hit. This week's featured story comes from the Martin & Sylvia: Dress Up collection. It's called "Part One: Grown-Up Costumes." One morning, Martin and Sylvia notice that Daddy is taking a particularly long time to get dressed. He's headed to a very big meeting, and he wants to look just right. When they see the ways colorful choices help inspire his attitude, they begin to wonder: what special clothing items might inspire their own outings? If you enjoyed that story, there are hundreds and hundreds more where that came from. Try a Sparkle subscription now - for free.
