Il Cinema ha saputo mostrare il lato più tetro e "scomodo" degli USA con film provocatori, lugubri e talvolta crudi. Perché quindi non riscoprirli? Stavolta è il turno di un film decisamente più recente eppure ancora poco noto. Seconda opera cinematografica di Drew Goddard, "7 sconosciuti a El Royale" è un oscuro thriller ambientato alla fine degli anni '60 americani. Qui decisamente meno luminosi e innocenti di come molti tendono a ricordare.

This week, we're back on the rom-com train with another selection from Hayley's collection, as we raise a blind ferret and get down with the scuba man. It's 2003's Along Came Polly, written and directed by John Hamburg, and starring Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Debra Messing, Alec Baldwin, and Hank Azaria, along with countless other famous funny people who oddly aren't allowed to do anything funny in this film. It's one we come to out of appreciation for the late great PSH, and he gives an outstanding performance -- how much you love Mr. Hoffman may very well make this one worth watching for you, but sadly little else here registers. That's alright though: both hosts are fresh back from the theatre having seen Alex Garland's Civil War, and J Mo's got a bonus theatrical field report from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. If you'd like to watch Along Came Polly before listening to this episode (and we do not recommend that you do), it is currently streaming on Starz at the time of publication. James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-CEOs of DC Studios, are moving forward with a new slate of projects for the studio, with a creative team that includes Jeremy Slater from Marvel's “Moon Knight” series. The team includes Tom King, Christal Henry, Christina Hodson, Drew Goddard, and Slater, who will help build DC's overarching saga. The first chapter of the new slate of movies and shows will be called “Gods and Monsters” and includes Superman: Legacy, Swamp Thing, Supergirl, The Brave and The Bold (Batman and Robin), and an adaptation of The Authority. On the TV side, fans can expect shows like Green Lantern, Booster Gold, Amanda Waller, Creature Commandos, and Paradise Lost. The events of “The Flash” will set up this next chapter of DC's movie lineup. Jeremy Slater is an American screenwriter and producer best known for his work in comic book adaptations. He is the head writer and co-creator of the Emmy-nominated Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy.” He has also served as the showrunner for the Marvel series “Moon Knight.” Tom King is an American comic book writer, best known for his work in the DC Comics universe. He has written for several popular DC characters including Batman, Mister Miracle, and The Vision. King's writing style is known for its emotional depth and thought-provoking themes. Christal Henry is a television writer and producer. She is known that she has worked on the television series “Watchmen” and is currently working on the upcoming film “Waller.” Christina Hodson is a British screenwriter who has worked on a number of high-profile Hollywood films. She is best known for writing the scripts for “Bumblebee” (2018) and “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” (2020). She has also written the script for the upcoming film “The Flash.” Drew Goddard is an American screenwriter, director, and producer who has worked on a number of high-profile Hollywood films and television series. He is best known for his work as the writer of the films “Cloverfield” (2008), “The Martian” (2015), and “Bad Times at the El Royale” (2018), which he also directed.
It is a pleasure to welcome Peter Jang to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Peter moved to California to pursue his Bachelor's degree at the University of California at San Diego. Once he graduated from the university, he moved to Los Angeles and began pursuing a career in acting and stunt work. He absorbed as much information about the industry while getting started. With a background in Taekwondo as a junior Olympian fighter with five US National Taekwondo Championship medals and three Ohio State Championship titles, Peter Jang was naturally drawn to stunt work as a fighting specialist. Throughout his time in the entertainment industry, Peter worked on several high-profile films such as Bad Times at the El Royale, The Forever Purge, and The Suicide Squad. He also performed on television shows, including American Horror Stories, General Hospital, NCIS: Hawaii, S.W.A.T, and Westworld. Recently, Peter released his short film: MASK. The film tells the story of a combat veteran (Jang) trying to escape his PTSD by working at a boxing gym. Unfortunately, a mysterious man disturbs the vet's tranquility and amplifies the veteran's worst fears. The short film features cast members Tim Neff and Gabrielle LaJudice. The film received the ‘Best Narrative' award at the 2022 Marina Del Ray Film Festival. Peter Jang spoke about his taekwondo history in this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. He also spoke about how it led him to the stunt world, including facing off against the late Jason David Frank in two viral videos: Super Power Beat Down: White Ranger vs. Scorpion and Green Ranger vs. Ryu.
